I must admit, I never rated ranged balls, but they work really well as a way to deal with high-hp stuff without just dying all of the time. Note he also made the mistake of picking up armour on the rays vs typhoons. Helps a bit, but not a total counter like it is vs Mustangs.
Ranged balls can really shake up a board! I notice people try to play armor rays against typhoons a lot. The mechrage honestly alone is enough. With aa as well they're like paper. Better armor units to play against typhoon is sledge and war factory, but you ideally would already be in the sledges by the time it becomes relevant
Can you explain your Typhoon homing missile vs shield decision knowing EM is very likely to come out on his Raidens?
Sure yeah! I'm fairly confident that either tech would probably have been fine, but the homing missile seemed better to me since I could just snipe down his arclights (opponents main chaff clear) and forward fangs to open the towers up to my steel balls quicker. Also, later in the round after my weaker left side is inevitably oiled and destroyed, my typhoons from the right side will be able to shoot before coming into range to further assist my army in cleaning up. Additionally, that moment of pause before I make my decision is me doing all of the math of my play beforehand and ultimately the missile tech being 100 supply cheaper would allow for me to add 3 crawlers at the end instead of 2 packs. That ultimately was what made me decide on missile. Since I go with missile I add the flank crawlers to keep the emp raidens distracted and off target. The beacon I drew with the typhoons and balls would ensure the steel balls find their mark on the tower even if they get emp'd. That is a lot, but I hope it helps! Gotta consider a lot in high MMR

@@stoneymechabellum such a close game! Most fun game in a bit. I always talk about how WF is the perfect play against typhoons when I go heavy into them, but haven't had many people actually use it!

I've tried to make Assman work. It's miserable every time. Would need more range and better fire rate to be playable imo.
You risked to lose for nothing. If you would have gotten the nuke on round 7, you would have closed the game right there and then.
It's a big spell so it seems good, but nuke would be worse for me there. Stoney has too many hacker shields for it to make any difference (same reason he also doesn't take it because of my typhoon shields). It's too expensive and less effective than the redeployment/hard pivot to the right side. I also had to play around smoke and oil, which is why I ran my units from left to right. I have a poorly positioned unit (the level 1 typhoon middle left) that if I had placed better in previous rounds would have made the difference and resulted in a win this round. Long story short if I go with nuke the outcome would have resulted in less damage to Stoney and I might have even lost the round

@@Thol112 Diffing a before and after screenshot, it is hard to tell because of the screenshake, but it looks like the melter stayed in place relative to the terrain, while the WF got nudged half a pixel back. I think the tarantula to the right starts rotating the legs right at that point, so it might be the cause of the nudge. And since the melter stops exactly at max range to start firing, the slightest nudge back puts it out of range and makes it retarget.

yeah that was the perfect play for your board, but you did a good read on the missiles for phoons when you were faced with the hacker dilemma. A good match, could have gone either way!
In the prep for Round 5 at ~09:00. I start to build one or two packs trickle chaff against Hackers (only when they work) so they continuously hack crawlers instead of real units, I build one pack immediately and the second one when and if it is needed. You didn't put down additional chaff and won the game and have way higher MMR. Is my strat wasting resources or an over commitment?
No, you aren't wasting resources. I also really like lots of crawlers against hacker and believe it is one of the most effective ways of dealing with them. The other most effective play against hackers is anything with a shield since hackers deal 1/4 of their damage when they are shooting shields so it takes them a while (fortress barrier is best). In this case he has lots of chaff clear with arclights so more crawlers would not help me as much as the barrier at that specific moment in the game. So on Round 5 that's why I skip chaff because I just want to get that barrier tech online. I can beef up the chaff as the match progresses and continue making shielded phoons alongside them. I go with homing missiles as well because they can snipe the hacker down from afar before it can connect to my guys. I find it to be an effective tech against all medium sized units in the whole of the game

Great cast, some small context pieces that might help beginners and mid-experienced players: - You highlight choices the players make (flanks, picks, counters, etc.), you could spend an extra 10s to explain briefly why - You make assumptions (which is great), but the speed of the game sometimes stops you to provide context (why do you assume x or y?) - Why is the Saber/Arc/Chaff combo currently so strong and what could an opponent, seeing that, react with (e.g. more chaff, asym set-up, etc.) - Are the players infamous for certain strategies they are using (extreme aggro, unit preference, cheese, etc.), provides strategic depth and knowledge about the top players - How would you have reacted differently in some situations and why? Long story short - here and there more in-depth context and finding the sweet spot between too little and too much info to make it more and keeping it engaging. Great job, its really small items - requires some testing. <3
Thank you for the suggestions! Watching it back during editing I also noticed I could do a couple more of these points better like explaining their playstyles for background and especially why their choices work or don't work and what I think could be done better instead given a specific composition. Maybe I could also replay one of their rounds or something. I will keep these in mind. It is tougher than I thought to comment while it's live. Appreciate the feedback

Mustang experience without range. They really need it if you want them to DPS, especially since they have less range than the typhoons.. Interesting to see the addition of 80-range forts later actually make that work, they end up taking most of the aggro.
Yeah I'm not sure why you would take armor piercing bullets as your first tech like...ever. It's just better to get more mustangs than armor piercing bullets until later in the game when they get levels so I agree range is priority number 1. Also, he was speed spec so short range comps can work and that's mostly why the fortress was able to do well on that round that I replayed

if you got with the overload on the forts you need range or you just run forward stupidly, range on mustangs aswell and he would have kicked ass, i mean the no range forts vs double shot sabers that out range then is just stupid
Its always easy as a spectator to give hindsight advice. I would have redeployed the Amp Core Typhoons from the front left a bit more to the right and back since the item gets kinda wasted there shooting high hp targets and then the unit dies pretty quickly, not clearing chaff.
It was a bit wasted, but I need chaff clear there regardless so it's kind of just a RIP on the item. After watching this game back I wish I'd just gone with amp core on a saber tbh. Would give it more hp and allow double shot to be that much more effective

@@brianfellows2024 I couldn't go fangs against the HE wasps. I should suspect he is taking that tech at some point. What i needed was fortress aa and mustangs I think. Also on the turn the typhoons were offered I should have taken them and just immediately shored up the flanks. I was just so sick I could think about anything lol. Glad you thought it was funny! I felt bad for jrm1ah though kinda scammed. I deserve to lose there

@@Thefluxtion I totally needed mustangs on the right. I lost the previous round to the wasps on my right flank the turn before. I was so out of it during this game I didn't save it and didn't replay it because I just went to bed when it ended. I would bet your idea would definitely be better than what I did. Anytime I post a loss in the future I will replay/try to comment more on alternative plays that would have worked better
As soon as you see he wasps you need aa & some Degen beam wraiths, he is a hard counter to stangs... Degen makes he wasps do zero damage, as he nerfs their damage already

@@marinauder there are quite a few units with multiple in the pack, I think that idea would make for a cool item to add to a single pack of units instead of a separate tech
aggro is feast or famine. there was no outplaying imo. the game inserted typhoons on wasp aggro then gave fire badger, he never had a chance to transition into something else.

Hello Ragin, Praise GOD for your channel. Do you feel the Stormcallers should be removed from round 1? Maybe because it is very hard to counter them at the beginning of the match
Glad you like the vids! I actually think stormcallers are in a better place than in the past. They lowered their damage so I find them manageable with units like steel balls, late crawlers and sledgehammers. Stormcallers were part of the reason I transitioned to an aggro playstyle since playing any speed based compositions pretty much make them irrelevant. If you are more of a standard player try using the anti missile devices more often. You'll find they are quite effective
Melters need some Vulcan buddies, to clear the chaff, or they get wrecked by mass crawler. Pretty expensive to build dough, need some techs aswell...
Yeah I was trying to tempo him out before he could get all of that going. My biggest fear was him taking the rhino to sell and going multi melter, which was why I went charge shot phoenix
