Brutally honest review of a new 2024 Winnebago Solis 59p after 3000km and a little over one month ownership. In this video, I'll show the good, the bad and the ugly that I have found with this motorhome. About the Solis 59p in general, only a few upgrades were made compared to the first available version made in 2019. Since then, the option for a Sofa Bed was added and the RAM Promaster chassis...

    thank you for this great test. I have a jump 2200 ( max charge 400w ) + extra jump 1500 and I don't understand why the main one turns off once the extra secondary one is empty. There is no continuity, you have to press the ac button to turn on the main once the secondary has been emptied both batteries are at 100% I plug a heater into it. After an hour the extra secondary battery is empty. The main one does not continue to work; it turns off even though it is full. You have to press the button to turn it back on. Isn't that normal?

    I own this pair and also a vtoman 1500x. I've wondered if one can plug the 600 extra battery into the 1500x, since they use the same cable and connector. I'm afraid to try it though. I am slowly building up my emergency power with the several stations, but in the future I'm going with ecoflow, since they cost about the same (the new delta 3 plus at 1kwh goes for $650 about what I paid for the 1500x and I have one on order) and it has a bluetooth/wifi app with lots more control. It can charge in under an hour, works as a UPS, has 2 solar inputs and lots more. All the old extension batteries will work with it too. And there are ways to hook up sets of 12v batteries to it as well, see some utube videos. For a lightweight 300w powerstation I just got the ecoflow river 3 that has fastcharge, ups, dual a/c and solar charging etc. That cost me only $150. It also works with the same app. Before the vtoman I got a jackery 1000x but it has old battery technology, although it's lighter weight. The whole industry is moving quickly. But the state of the art seems to me to be ecoflow at the moment.

    This may be a naive question as I'm new to all this and just considering options, but why don't people just buy a good leisure battery plus an inverter? Isn't that cheaper?

    • @leewaymodels
      @leewaymodels หลายเดือนก่อน

      Good question. The main reason is convenience. These portable power station have several advantage. First, they are all wired in. No configuration or installation are needed. Second, the portability factor is unmatched compared to the other solution you mention, they are much easier to use, move and store. Third, The one in this video is relatively small, but you have some that can supply 3 or more kw of power and expension batteries can provide many kw/h of total reserve capacity. When you take everything into account, price is higher but not by that much, unless you go with a very large system. Even in that case, if you are not a DIYer and have to pay to install a custom designed system, it might be cheaper to go with a large system that is plug and play that you can hook up yourself, VS having to pay for installation. Hopes this helps. Thanks for your question.

      That's fine man, no hard feelings. It is really the most expensive thing I ever got, so it makes me laugh when they call this 59p a "starter van" . If you must know, I used to be in the Navy, then had an accident during an emergency drill that had me fall a bridge wing. I never fully recovered. I started in current company I work for cutting grass on the premises. Then I worked my way in that company on operation shifts for many years. Shop was closed during the winter so I discovered road trips by buying a 10 year old used minivan and putting a mattress in the back. And a port-a-potty near the passenger seat. It all started from there.

    I just got the vtoman vs220 solar panel for my 600x. Just be aware that while there are 4 foldable panels... they are made with just three supports, which leaves them very unstable!

      @leewaymodels Having a Beaudens 600w power station with a Swarey 200w solar panel, I find the VTOMAN 600X the better on the power stations, mainly because of the extra battery to step power up. But on the solar panels, I find the Swarey is far the best of the two with a support for each panel, thicker cables, and with built in USB charging built into the panel. Both being around the same price... VTOMAN really need to step up their game on the panels. P.s. thanks for the reply👍

    Thanks for the video. It taught me that you need to test your train as a unit. I'm incorporating some of the CV switches to create an inner loop in my t-track to hold some industries. I may need to limit myself to small switchers and older short cars for those industries.

  • @002tar
    @002tar 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    if you want to switch to DCC how do the track switches get power? and switched? do you still need this kato power supply to power the switches?

    • @leewaymodels
      @leewaymodels 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      - There is an adapter kit that exist - you can either keep the analog control or use special decoders and motors - if you keep the analog controls, you can provide power to them either with one of those power supply. Alternatively there is another accessory that you can use to power kato switch controls.

    I just ordered a Bandai kit. Going to have to power it for my tram area on my layout. I am ok with the cost power it as I have a couple trains that cost over 800 USD. lol I actually have that Kato green tram on my layout. Great video!!

    • @leewaymodels
      @leewaymodels 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Some of those models can get very expensive indeed! As for the Bandai kit, this is a fun project. The best advice I can give you is to make sure you have all your parts to assemble it powered to begin with. The snaps worked much better the first time they are used and it will be much easier to assemble.

    Hi, 1: Can we use a second large capacity battery (12V 280AH LiFePO4 Lithium Battery) with the same connection? 2: can we use a 20Amp 12V/20A Smart Battery Charger Lithium Lifepo4 charger for faster charging than the 90w charger? Thank you in advance for your response.

      I would think no for both as per other comments on this video. Maybe contact vtoman to see what they say about it.
