    great video, I've been using my trailer winch with 2 people at this point, gonna give this a try next time. With the wind here it's a little difficult from keeping the mast from going side to side a little bit tweaking the mast plate. Maybe ill do some baby stays or something.

    I have a 1974 Pearson which uses the same style portlights. Somewhere along the line I read something saying people with Pearsons were able to successfully use the Catalina resealing kits, and this is indeed the case. I have not come upon a video that covers all these steps as well as you have here. Catalina direct should reference customers to your video to accompany the one page instruction sheet they provide with the kit.

    Same boat, i almost never lock the keel. Occasionally, if its knocking around during a rough overnight, ill lock it, for quiet sleeping but even that's rare. I struck bottom near a shallow beach once while it was locked . . . thought better after that and left it swinging free. No issues, love the boat, 1973 : )

    just wondering for the window sealant inside the basket. Apply a lot or just a little ?

    • @svbabyadalynne
      @svbabyadalynne 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Apply “little”, just enough so it doesn’t ooooze out, because the clean up is messy. The space between the gasket and the glass is very thin especially once it’s pressed back into the aluminum frame. Most important is that it’s a continuous bead of sealant when applied.

    I just purchased and C-22. My boat does not have the halyards back to the cockpit. I was going to purchase the Catalina Direct Kit. Were the blocks you replaced for the halyards? If so, what brand and how do you like them now that you have sailed with them? I am wondering if I should just purchase quality blocks and such and not the kit. Your thoughts? Thank you.

    • @svbabyadalynne
      @svbabyadalynne ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, they were for halyards. Those deck blocks were from Catalina Direct. They are fine. Unless you are planning to race, there is no point to buy expensive blocks or deck organizers. Make sure your halyards will clear the pop top when it’s open.

    Is the 4/1 pulley system a separate bit or rigging specific for raising and lowering the Mast? With that mechanical advantage, do you just use strength to hold the Mast as it is lowered or is there some sort of mechanical "locking/holding" going on? Does the end of the line from the 4/1 rigging just attach directly to the forestay?

  • @benkanobe7500
    @benkanobe7500 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great job! Could you show a close-up, still image of the bow rigging you used to raise the Mast? Also, are the three forward stays disconnected when raising the Mast and just those three have the quick disconnects installed on them? I am trying to set my boat up/rig my boat correctly for single-handed Mast raising and lowering.

  • @benkanobe7500

    • @svbabyadalynne

      Disconnect the Forestay and both Lower Forward Shrouds you need Quick Release Turnbuckles for those PVC tubes over the Port, Starboard and Lower Back Shrouds to keep the those turnbuckles upright so they don’t get entangled and bend Watch my other mast raising videos

    I just purchased my second sailboat, a much smaller Catalina 22. Thank you for sharing your experience with us. FYI: You may want to put your keep lock back in. When, not if, you keel your sailboat over, the keel will suck up inside the keel well and get stuck. The keel lock prevents this. Once you keel your boat over it will not self-rite and you will take on water eventually sinking your sailboat. Just a heads up, Catalina put that there for a reason, a big safety reason. Safe sailing, Grant

    • @svbabyadalynne
      @svbabyadalynne ปีที่แล้ว

      I am not sure how the keel would suck up into the keel well when keeling. You mean it would slide up? I never let my C22 to that extreme...that means the boat have to be perpendicular to the water...it would be uncontrollable. However you are correct if I would flip her over then the keel would slam shut. It is a long...ongoing discussion.

      Consider a 6:1 block and tackle, so your Mainsheet would not work... Make sure your mast crutch is stabilized. You might need a small gin-pole since your fleet angle will be super low. Sounds like a fun rig.
