    Just discovered your channel. Love your content. My first computer was a C64 and seeing the care and love you have for them just makes me smile. Also really appreciate that you don’t bury your videos in awful music and use it sparingly and appropriately. So much overstimulation on YT these days and this type of quiet detailed content is a diamond in the rough.

    Those scorch marks could be chemical burn from cap leakage? Also, you could use the good board to check meter values and compare.

    • @silvestronsbitsandbytes
      @silvestronsbitsandbytes หลายเดือนก่อน

      Possible! There's no residue though, so what I think happened is someone plugged in a regular center positive 9v supply, killed the 7805 and also backwards voltage to everything in this video board toasted a few things... it's a pretty easy mistake to make and catastrophic :(

    Mine after greasing up the motor on the CD mech works, but strangely when powered on spins anticlockwise and takes about 5 mins to warm up before it wil read a disc (spinning it the correct way, clockwise). Caps seem ok on visual inspection. any ideas why it needs to "warm up" and why the motor spins anticlockwise slowly when powered on by not reading a disc?

    Excellent video. I have two of these machines. One of them fixed up for now (recapped systemboard, inverter and remaining screen caps + cf/ide 512mb CF). The other one is still to be fxed (as soon as you connect it to power, it will power on regardless of how the power-switch is on or off). They are quite nice machines. Not the fastest ones around, but otherwise quite cool.

I'm trying to have the nVidia Shield TV (same as the one in this video) as the main headunit in my car. I have a broken Shield power brick, so I bought a 12v to 19v 3amp buck converter. I snipped the wire from the power brick, connected it to the output of the buck converter and plugged it in. The nVidia logo showed up and my happiness was short lived. As the screen turned off. Any ideas what could I be doing wrong? I measured the output of the buck converter to be 19.16v Appreciate any help.
