I really like the idea of a GMed war game. But doing this big narrative sandbox thing is on a whole other level.

It was certainly a unique experience. It felt much more like a living world than a normal game of Mordhiem.
Good video! Any of the games made back then (Mordheim, Necromunda and Blood Bowl) have more of a narrative focus to them which tends to go against people trying to power game through it. If you're fine with having fun & telling a collaborative story with other players then any of those 3 games will be a good pick. What's everyone's thoughts about trying the game out via the video game version??
One of my favourite day dreams is how i could make all the warbands from the core rules using just the core box, e.g skaven flails on the trenchcoat with hairy head for a flagellant. Human with skaven bits for a beastman. Unholy amalgamation of parts for a possessed. Fancy sleeves and feather hat for vampire. Only band i struggle with is sisters!!
That is a lofty goal but I would love to see someone pull it off. Sisters of Sigmar is the only warband for which I sought out the original models. There are many modern sculpts that would serve well as a Sisters warband, but none of them measure up to the original models, in my opinion.

Interesting and important info here. As an avid Mordheim player myself, I also see the importance of being able to quickly assemble a warband from the miniatures you have on hand at the time. This is especially true when playing away from home and only having a limited number of miniatures with you

Wasn’t part of the fun learning who was good at what? Like character development in a good movie. Winning is secondary in games built more on story. Just my opinion of course. Keep the content coming. Thanks
I suppose that could fun. However, when I have limited time and money to spend on assembling warbands, I want to know what I am getting myself into. I'd hate to build an entire skaven warband only to find out I really don't like how skaven play.
@@GetTabled that’s where your proxy it “counts as” comes in to play. To include “instructions” on how to play warband x is akin to cheat code that robs the player the immersion and exploration. Also in defense, as if it needs it , Mordheim was not a stand alone game without a depth of WHFB’s shared background. When it was released, I think it was niche enough that it was a safe assumption that the large majority of the people who picked it up were aware of Skaven (for example) traits and fighting style.
@@TheJankmaster This is very true. The context in which a game released matters. My goal with this video was to make the game more approachable for people who might not have any knowledge of Warhammer as a setting, as there are lots of players who are completely new to wargaming showing interest in Mordheim. I myself had never played a tabletop war game or skirmish game before Mordheim. I have, on more than one occasion, played a game with a new player who spent their money and time on a new warband only to find out that it doesn't play in a way they had hoped it would.

It needs one more round of revision and testing, but I will make a video about it when it is complete.
I've been collecting various kits to make warbands. I don't have anyone to play with right now, but I hope to draw some people in providing terrain and warbands to start.

@@GetTabled too bad the world is so damn big. I’m in the southern USA and there’s probably like 5 people in a 509 mile radius that want to play.
Is anyone in the Philadelphia area still playing mordheim, or fantasy battles/old world watching this? My local shop doesn’t have fantasy setting placers unless it’s D&D, they pretty much solely play 40K or MTG and I like branching out. So if your in Philly and looking to play Leave a comment under this one lol

Great video! I am just getting into the hobby and had come to this conclusion so it’s nice to be backed up by the same line of thought. Any ideas on starting terrain?
Thanks for watching! For terrain, there are some really good tutorials out there if you want to build stuff yourself. For just getting some games going quickly, I would just use whatever you have. Cut up some cardboard boxes for ruined walls and buildings. Cover them in some paint and sand and get playing ASAP.
I also try to only play fully painted warbands.
It takes more time but it is definitely rewarding.

Another great way is just to 3d print yourself some awesome warbands, especially with such a lovely access to dozens of creators/different models. I actually made 4 mercenary bands in different colours and models from different creators (Reptilian Overlords, Infernal Miniatures, GW, Vae Victis and Highlands Miniatures)
MOM Miniatures also makes some great and characterful models
@@sbart23 Oh yeah! There is a lot of talented artists. It's worth to spend several quid to support them from time to time and get some awesome models in return. For once I actually don't feel bad about it, while I have more and more mixed feelings after buying another box of GW products.
