  • Prime Minister Justin Trudeau defended Canada’s military spending Thursday after criticism from Alaska Sen. Dan Sullivan, stating that the government has spent “massively” on NORAD upgrades and has stepped up Canada’s NATO commitments.
“We invested massively in NORAD modernization just earlier this year, and we’re continuing to step up in our NATO commitments,” Trudeau said at a press conference in Summerford, N.L.
Sullivan criticized Canada’s contributions during a confirmation hearing for Lt.-Gen. Gregory Guillot, who is in line to become head of NORAD. “I hope the Canadians are watching your confirmation hearing,” Sullivan said to Gregory during the hearing, calling Canadian defence spending “incredibly disappointing.”
“They’re not very good at paying for missile defence either, even though we protect the whole North American continent,” he added.

I currently live in Canada; I grew up here but was born in Northern Ireland - as a teen, I went back and lived for nearly a year, in Belfast, where I was born and learned the true gift that Canada was. If the promised electoral changes were made, he might not have won the last 2 at all - thus, those changes were never made. And let's not forget the possible Chinese, and who knows who else, interference...then there's his most recent "faux pas" - an actual WWII Nazi in parliament? Or how about alienating Canada with his insistence on India's involvement in the killing of the Khalistani terrorist? It is scandal, after scandal after scandal with this guy! Even if you like him, you surely must see that it is time for an election and he must go! Russia has a smaller economy than Canada. Our per capita GDP is miles higher, yet Russia has thousands of nukes. They have fleets of nuclear armed submarines, tens of thousands of tanks, fighter jets, bombers and on and on. Canada has around 70 obsolete jets. Where's the money? Where are the incredible taxpayer savings that we should have from not having any of these weapons. We should have billions of dollars in savings, but we have a huge debt.
Why? Because we are over governed, and taxpayers pay for this enormously large government infrastructure.
California with the exact same population as Canada, but with a bigger economy, has 40 million people supporting only 2 governments - the state and the feds. 40 million Canadians financially support 10 provincial, 3 territorial, and 1 federal government. That's why we're broke. This is massive government.

Canada could not attend a recent NATO fighter jet meet because Canadas fighter jets are on blocks needing repairs. Canada is a reliability on NATO. Trudeau has depleted Canadas military and equipment etc. Canada can not even defend itself let alone anyone else. Trudeau is draining your country turning it into a third world dirty country. Personally, Illegal immigrants coming to America from Mexico should be sent to Canada as young and smarter as they are educated and older, and everyone else should get a visa. Afterwards, if they live or work in Canada for more than 3 years, they will be given Canadian citizenship or permanent residency, and the system that automatically gives them a US work visa or permanent residency is an economic win-win system between the United States and Canada.

At the end of the day Canada is and has never met the 2% of GPD defense spending it agreed to. I expect the majority of Canadians would be in favor of meeting this commitment. However, the funding is going to have to come from somewhere. Increase Taxes? Perhaps from cuts to an existing program? Trans Mountain Pipeline? Reconciliation? Homelessness? Dental care? Day care? the environment? etc., etc. Support for defense spending may disappear quickly as it always has. Maybe Trumps USA wont let us away with it this time.
