I literally laughed out loud when you talked about no space to work on the desk and again with the piles are falling over! That is literally what my craft desk looks like right now. 🤦♀️😆 I’ve been trying to use what I have and I have a lot of stuff. But it’s sure a great mood booster when you finally use that stamp set or use up some patterned paper or embellishments you’ve had for years!
I recently went through all my paper crafting supplies and donated things I was not using or did think I would use. I donated paper, stickers and embellishments to my local YMCA for the summer camp or after school programs. The stamps and ink I gave to friends to go through and take what they could use. The balance of stuff I organized and labeled so I can now find what I have.
I love craft supplies and paper but decided to look and not buy, until I have used stuff. I got a donation box going of cards. I do watch videos they help with stress relief after work and gives me ideas for weekend crafting so I hit projects early. Thank you for the tips.
I’ve gotten pretty good at not buying more stuff. 🏆 Still need to organize what I have, although I never seem to have just the right word stamps-too big…too small…
I tend to ‘flip’ through my stamp sets (they are in bathroom storage containers)… to use sets I haven’t used before, I am turning around the sets as I use them. This way the only ones I see as I flip are the ones I haven’t used yet. My goal is to use all sets in one of those containers this year. I would love to set my goal higher, but my parents have been having health issues and I have learned things are not remotely predictable right now. So if it takes me a month to finish a card, that’s ok, a little bit at a time still helps. (I’m also reducing my buying too)
@@sh0rtstr4w Flipping the stamp set around is a brilliant idea. I've been placing an enamel heart on the top left corner, but I still see the images, and that derails me. I'm heading to my storage to take care of it right now! 🙃
I have given my SIL, who is a teacher and runs the after school program, thousands and thousands of dollars worth of supplies this year. I thought I was going to sell crafts and cards at the craft fairs but I went to 1 and then Covid hit. I had accumulated so much product and it sat for a couple years. I just went through everything and gave her a ton of embellishments and almost all of my patterned papers and colored card stock. Now I have between 3000-4000 cards I need to donate. Hopefully I can get those sent to places that will accept cards with shakers and sequins.
Hi! I'm sorry craft fairs didn't work out for you. From what I can tell Cardz for Kidz will accept cards with sequins and shaker cards. I always recommend sending a quick message to the organization to confirm. www.cardzforkidz.org/create-cards
I know I have too many 12x12 paper pads! I donated some stamp sets that I didn’t like, I didn’t even use them. This is a very helpful video. Thank you.
Great video!! I did the declutter, did the low buy, used stuff, got bored with a lot of my stuff, and was gifted with most of a friend's craft room. I bought storage, had room, and am SO HAPPY that I did all of the other steps. I think changing our shopping habits, if we are in the overwhelmed phase, is incredibly important. I'm not saying no spend or low buy. I am saying that once you figure out what you actually love doing, that you invest in that instead of random things that become unused clutter.
That is great advice! Thanks for sharing your experience. I am definitely a lot better at buying the type of items I use regularly rather than what is trendy and it helps a lot!
Well! Every one of those 7 comments apply to my situation right now. I can’t even get into my craft room because of the “stuff” piled outside the door! For real. I keep thinking “If I could only get into the room far enough to get to my work table……”. I subscribed to your site just now and thank you for good ideas and encouragement 😊.
You are not alone. My craft room was so full I started crafting in the living room! Now I’m slowly getting it back under control, but it is still a process. And I had to stop crafting to do it. I am documenting every item to not duplicate further. I am making donation piles (friends, family, organizations) and culling through paper and magazines. Organizing all like items and labeling the drawers. I have had tons of empty drawers with craft items in bags, etc. I’m getting there. Good luck to you in your journey!
I found your video completely by accident and it hit home. I had already signed up for the Get Organized Summit. I recently retired so any day I can't spend in my yard/garden, I am catching up on scrapbooks. Thanks for the great ideas. I look forward to checking out your templates
I am sad to say, I fall into all of these categories! I am excited about the organization class later this month, hopefully it will help my crafting MOJO! Thanks for reminding us we are not alone!😊
Great video and I can relate on so many levels! I just looked through a box of stamps that I thought I had already weeded but if I'm totally honest I wouldn't even have known what was in there to miss any of them! I may need to be more ruthless because my craft room is bulging at the seams. I've also found that keeping an inventory (or starting one after 16 years like me!) has been helpful in knowing what I have and avoiding buying similar products. How many butterfly stamps do I really need?! Thanks for sharing your tips.
I donate to a friend who works at a child care center for school aged children. Makes it easier to donate excess. Most of the cards I make are donated to a senior charity in memory of my Mom.
I am currently setting up / organizing my craft room since we moved and appreciate your organizing tips. Going thru all of my stamps (inventory / categorizing / labeling / storage) and realizing that my tastes and style have changed over the years so I have a donate box and joining some buy / sell / trade groups. then tackling my paper next.
Like others, this is me. I'm actually purging now since my taste has changed over the past year. Designs I thought I would like, I am finding that I actually do not care for them. Yes, I wasted money, but I'm so overwhelmed with my inventory that I find I am not crafting. A few weeks ago, I saw two major players in the card industry do videos on "cleaning house." This too, like your video has motivated me to do just that. Great video!!!
I am not focusing on paper or fabric this year other than 1 in 2 out (so not buying a lot). I am doing a "taming the stash" year with yarn. I am wanting to use up a lot of older things that have been hanging out for a while so I can justify using more new stuff. So far the feeling in my room is so much lighter! I have used about 40 pounds of yarn so far.
TY for this video Jess! I am experiencing many of these things and have reached capacity in my craft room. Appreciate the tips and look forward to the organization summit 😊
I really enjoyed your video. Thank you. Is there still a way to get access to the Paper Crafters Get Organized videos? I would like to see what more tips I can use. I started a scrapbooker (20yrs ago) but have gone to cards. But I still have scrapbooks I want to make. I’ve gone from trace and cut stencils to the cricut (and all of it’s evolutions) Wood block stamps to acrylic or cling stamps and dies (with both the manual and electric machine). There’s been side crafts. I enjoy Cross-Stitch and crocheting. There was a moment of wreath making. Overall, I’ve done pretty good on keeping a handle on my “collection” 😂. I go through, and I purge my papers and stamps at least once a year. Right now I am in the middle of trying to catalog stamps, dies, papers and inks, as well as’s watching the latter two. Because, as you know, organizing is another hobby.😉🤣😂
It was a free summit available in April 2023, but there will be another one next year. I know that's a long time to wait but it might be worth joining the waitlist for because I know I can always use tips. papercraftersgetorganized.com/
Great ideas!! I hope it's okay to suggest but folks can consider donating supplies to the Disabled Artists Foundation. It's a 501c3 charity who sends out new and gently used supplies to disabled artists/crafters who are also financially challenged.
I used to dabble in all sorts of crafts, moving from one to the next at lightning speed, but nothing stuck. I finally found passion for painting in acrylics, and now do that exclusively. Meanwhile, my clutter issue is not the actual supplies (paper, glue, ribbon, etc.), it's the items that were meant to become something else. Like a set of old macrame purse handles, a stack of Spanish language vinyl records, lots of wood cuts, sock stretchers, game pieces, fabric samples, that kind of thing. Filling up both closets and the floor around them......Who would want that kind of stuff? Any suggestions?
Creative reuse stores or arts and crafts thrift stores would love that. Here's a blog post about ones that I have found but search your area, you might be surprised. jesscrafts.com/blog/craft-thrift/
@@JessCrafts Thanks! Not sure if my city is big enough for a specialized thrift store, but there's probably plenty of other clutter around the house to go with it. Just don't want to pass on what might just be garbage & make it someone else's problem, you know?
I have too much stuff, but I want to use it, not organize it to death. Most of my stuff is somewhat organized, but the last bits are a pain, as it means ALL my tables are covered in stamping stuff while I organize.. and scraps.... why I have so much unorganized scraps, I don't know. I even have a scrap bin for the big scraps. I need to do thank you cards for my daughter's wedding in June, then focus on using my stash to make all occasion cards.
I understand that sentiment. I am always happier after I use up some supplies by making cards to donate than just moving stuff around my room to make it more 'organized' Most of my videos focus on really using supplies so I hope some will be helpful to you in your quest.
I agree with you!!! I don't like reorganizing either. If you are overwhelmed by scraps, I suggest picking a minimum size you will keep. I'm not saying take a ruler to every scrap, but be able to go quickly through a stack that is bugging you, and getting rid of scraps you don't WANT to use.

I spent a whole day feeling bummed out because a stencil set that I wanted was out of stock only to find that I already had it😂
