Leo Fender was thinking and thinking and thinking about guitars then he talked to Les Paul and made the decision to produce the greatest guitar ever made because Leo was a friend and he listened to smart people and other smart people helped Leo Fender get it perfect first time and that’s not easy that’s as tough as it gets but Leo Fender was a great guy!

Landon I build pasts-casters and my first one was a nitros cellulose JACK DANIELS OLD #7 black label finish its solid pine and the one piece maple neck is no brand with chrome tuner machines and a Texas Broadcaster electronics package with everything prewired and ready to drop in with the Fender pickups and Wilkerson nickel plated chrome bridge and brass saddles. The Fender 2017 Mexico player series was originally used in the guitar but I had to upgrade to the TEXAS BROADCASTER ELECTRONICS VERSION exactly like Leo Fender made in 1950 except my pick guard is white not black and my finish is custom not butterscotch.

    I' m a tellyman as well.
But with so many tellies I couldn' t decide which guitar I play today.
So I own just two, one with maple and one with rosewood board.
And I have a Gibson Les Paul jr.
I found out that a real good tele bridge pickup sounds almost the same as a P90 bridge pu.
Not so much power of cause, but very simular.

I have a butterscotch Player Tele with these “Plus-Deluxe” upgrades by me - Vintage Fender bridge and tuners, Wilkinson's compensated saddles, Mojotone ’52 Quiet Coil pickups, Lucky Dog gnarly knobs, angled-switch cover-plate, and a three string tree to stop the g-string ring behind the nut. It's a great guitar. I love the satin back/glossy top maple neck. For me it just blows away anything else under a grand. And I prefer it to the American series which I can afford to buy if I wanted to.

From Leo: Nice collection. Something honest and utilitarian about a Telecaster. They are a great foundation for many different pickup configurations. I have most configurations. I am lacking a Tele with a DanElectro lipstick tube. As much as I like the lipstick tubes in my surf Strat, I may be calling Seymour Duncan for another SLS-1 pickup, as I have two regular telecasters. The 4 way switch conversion is mandatory in my book. Thanks for the entertainment and tips over the year. I hope 2020 works out well for you.

Hey Lando. Cool Teles. I myself have 5 Teles which I also have constructed from a choice of my favorite styles of parts. My first build was a rock audio body - beautiful single bound transparent red mahogany quilt top. That build cost about $675 US. Totally blowing away the $2000 ish cost of getting not exactly what I want from the mod shop. I stick with fender parts, I use only the original tele pickups on my builds. Due to the use of different body woods and styles and bridge types each guitar shares some similarities in tone but have their own distinct sound. I don’t mind soldering so I buy my control plates from 920D custom shop. Top quality parts , even orange drop capacitors and cloth wire. My most recent project was a fully loaded American original tele body that I just bolted an American performer neck to. Awesome axe. And about $1000 cheaper than buying it new . I found a used red plush g&g tweed case at a local music store for $100 for it . Practically mint . Anyway, cool video.

I think there's more cheap bridges, often with brass, you don't have worry about cheap trems, the electronics are separate from the pickguard, and it's easy to get all kinds of pick-ups, and two pickups are just easier to deal with. 43 gauge wire makes interesting neck pickup.
The only draw back is there is no arm cut - although there are some that do.

Jimmy Page played a Telecaster for the solo on Stairway to Heaven.
I have a 1962 reinsure Tele Candy Apple Red.
Only modification I made over the past 35 years is i replaced the ashtray plate with a chrome L shaped plate (the ashtray edge kept cutting into my hand as well as I needed 6 individual adjustments for intonation setting rather than the 3 on the original ashtray plate)
Tele guitars are wonderful instruments. Pretty much cover any style of guitar playing and reliable on stage or in studio. Workhorse musical instrument.

#1 Tele is very cool love the all black look; #2 The double bound candy apple red is totally awesome; #3 looks like Vince Gill's Tele when it was new; #4_ is possibly your best one, beautiful body; #5_has a tuning issue bc it may you may need to get a bone nut and file it for the correct the depth, and it may need a complete set up ( install a Ultra Series bridge with chromed brass saddles) . and lastly #6 I watched your build video on it and that is a very good guitar. Also, I use the same tuner (TC Electronics) on my guitars

Am I the only who prefers the neck pick up over the bridge pickup on a tele? The bridge to me can sound great but can sound like a jar full of bees real easy too, lol. In all honesty though I play through the neck 90% of the time on any guitar though. Only time I use a bridge pup is on the rare night im playing something high gain. Im a strat guy mainly though but i do pick up my tele on occasion for that neck pup.

I find the locking tuners stay in tune better on a strat when using the tremolo. When you push down on the trem on non locking tuners the winds all slacken slightly and unslacken when you go back to pitch. The problem is there's a bit of binding within the winds and it won't always completely go back to where it was. The locking tuners fix this as long as you don't do any winds on the post. For non trem guitars it really doesn't help with tuning.

  • @chrisf247
    @chrisf247 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

If you haven't learned how to change strings on standard tuners then the locking ones would be easier I guess. I wouldn't say no to them but I barely consider them an upgrade personally.

Hey I just finished going through the whole thing, great video! Thanks for sharing. I really liked the dirty sounds of the maple roasted partscaster. The pickups are both twisted tele right? Now that you’ve been with that guitar for a while, what do you think of those pickups? My general feeling about those from what I’ve seen in video demos online is that the neck pickup is very nice for lead tones (not sure about warm/jazzy type tones) and that the bridge pickup is ok, not not as great as other sets, do you feel the same?

Hi Landon, Nice Telecasters Man! I think after listening to them all I prefer the sound of your Player Series. I got a beautiful 2006 Made in Japan Telecaster Sunburst double bound, 72 reissue with fender bigsby, from my wife as an engagement present, it has the look you don't Like with the braces and headgear, LOL. But I love it, If you want to see it take a look at my MV50 video I pull it out there. Thanks for sharing your beautiful collection, I love your videos, keep up the good work ! ;)

Love your Telecaster collection, especially the blue one with the Fire roasted neck. I have heard that a Firebird Neck pickup or Mini Humbucker can take the standard tele pickup configuration to the next level. Have you tried that yet ? Apparently it gives you tonality that is between a single coil and Full Humbucker.
