  • I take my scrunched up old bags of flour and turn them into wonderfully textural pocket notebooks.

    I can’t be the only one who hopes you have a collection of bread recipes in a Field Notes notebook. Love these flour bag notebooks.

    I love this project! I too am a baker and keep several types of flour in bags in a drawer, I have a small tip for storing flour. I use a large paper shopping bag with the top cut down,so it will fit into the closed drawer. I place the flour bags into the larger paper bag. The flour that inevitably sifts through the flour bags is caught in the larger bag,so the drawer stays flour free. You have inspired me to save my empty flour bags for making a notebook.

      Thanks for watching! And thanks for the flour storage tip, an excellent solution and at the end you can make a random loaf of all the sifted flour!

    Fantastic idea! I make a lot of sourdough bread, and the amount of flour not only to make it but to feed the starter is a lot! Thanks for the ideas!!

    i've taken to making small notebooks at home out of envelopes or random papers i receive in the mail. makes for an interesting booklet and i feel accomplished having not tossed it all into the garbage

      That’s a great idea 😮! What have you made notebooks from? I could only think of paper bags from shopping.

    Made a few page journal when library during Pandemic gave away small kits & a video by a volunteer. Enjoyable. Thank you for video.
    About the only notebook I make for myself is a copy paper PocketMod folded & scissored. Makes 8 or 16 pages
    I found another commercial notebook, many more pages than a FieldNotes, hair smaller & hugely expensive. Smythson of Bond Street (UK) The Panama pocket notebook. I found some on eBay about 1/3 of retail. Maybe too thick for hip pocket, long project or home use. Use a personal version of Bullet Journal in one. Index keeps things messy but findable. That works well for my scattered mind but likely not yours 😀

    Well done, it's so satisfying when some of the diy projects works so well. I've done. A little but I prefer stitch rather than staples

      Yes stitching gives a beautiful finish. I just did a bookbinding workshop and it's such a satisfying craft.

    writing the measurement for the new book, in the old book... it feels like training your replacement that you don't know is replacing you. 😅
    rudimentary book binding like this is great. i do this with off prints of office paper too. 👍

    Your videos and your work is such an inspiration. I know you probably don't need more tools but might i suggest just two - A) 1500mm metal cutting rulerr from Shinwa (Japanese brand). That way you don't have to keep moving the ruler as much. B) Corner lever punch medium round from Fiskars to get perfect corners.

      I always need more tools so that’s for the tips, they’re going on my list! And thanks for watching!

    Hey Lukas! First of all, I'm absolutely in love with you videos. I've been carrying around a pocket notebook for some time, but you've convinced me to switch to field notes. I have one question--how do you keep it in your back pocket without it bending so much? Thanks!

    • @BlankFirstPage
      @BlankFirstPage  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey! Thanks for watching! I do keep it in my back pocket but it does indeed bend quite a lot. For me thats part of the charm, I like how it ages and wears in that way. I have found it bends less in a front pocket, if you’re trying to avoid that!

    Hey lucas, its been so long i started to worry, i love these kind of videos because when i was in elementary school I would make little notebooks like that😂

    I enjoyed this and I shared this with our local Washington, DC Pen Crew. I've resisted bookbinding because there are so many options but this looks like it could be fun for the sake of fun. What paper did you use?

    • @BlankFirstPage
      @BlankFirstPage  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks for watching and sharing! This is fun and also very simple. I used the paper from the flour bags themselves!

    The kraft covers I can get behind but a notebook made out of that paper doesn't have enough contrast to be useful in my opinion. I'd rather use some nice paper for the inside but to each their own :)

    Texture is everything. I've taken to clipping my Kaweco AL Sport Piston Filler to my Field Notes cover and the cover edges are getting a little fuzzy as a result.

    • @BlankFirstPage
      @BlankFirstPage  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Nice! That’s a great way to age a cover! Thanks for watching!
