Interesting tube channel. Most consumers do not think about how international shipping concerns can directly impact their lives through goods scarcity and higher prices (also dependent on fuel prices). My own personal experience that educated me came from the dock workers strike several years ago at the ports of oakland and los angeles. I am a musician. Most affordable guitars, amplifiers, etc..are china or indonesian made. The strike drove up prices and even product availability as they sat on container ships unable to be unloaded. A few on-line retailers even said not to buy guitars of certain production runs as the environmental control (temp, humidity) of the containers had been compromised from sitting unloaded in port for so long causing damage to the guitars, amps, etc.
We’ve seen it in construction materials and equipment as well. The east coast strike had people pre-purchasing some odd items. I’m glad they settled quickly.

Also if one looks closely the wording used by Maersk statement in the referenced article is "cargo to be *transshipped* through the port does not include any military weapons or ammunition". Not cargo carried or cargo transited. So this might be case of "technically correct, responsibility is divested to listener". No munitions are to be handled in Spain and then by Maerks definition "well that isn't transshipping. Transshipping only counts, if we touch the container in Spanish Port. Munitions containers will not be touched while in Spanish territory". However given how easily and willingly the ship diverted, it might be Spain asked "Are there munitions on board". Answer by Maersk: yes. "Is Israel possibly on the future ports of call list?", answer by Maersk: yes. Spain: "End of discussion, you aren't welcome". Heck the munitions might be for USA base somewhere, but Spain isn't taking chances. It has munitions on board, regardless to whom by declaration and ports route includes Israel, no port for you, since it's Spain's port and Spain gets to make such rules as part of foreign policy.

Exactly! I understand the world has a lot more people and Americans are labeled hedonistic workaholics. How much do we really need to import though? What do we want to outsource and what can we offer besides weapons and military support. All the complaints made about our world wide bases while supporting the world markets security and enforcement is like anything else with investments and returns. The Cunard line and British government claimed there were no military supplies and shells on the Lusitania and held to that story for about 50 years. If Mearsk was shipping weapons why do you believe they would tell you in particular? Are you crazy?
That is an excellent point. It was only in the last two decades it was proved beyond doubt, yet many sources still treat it as only a possibility. Liars lie
This could also have been done as a result of the israelis targeting UNIFIL troops in Lebanon rather than the genocide and ethnic cleansing of gaza. If the cargo includes munitions and other military supplies that might be used against UN mandated peacekeepers then nations who have troops deployed to the occupied territories have a vested interest in not allowing the resupply.
You wish. First of all, there is no such thing as "ethnic cleansing" in Gaza. Israel is doing what any other country would do if attacked. However, allow me to burst your delusion bubble. This is because the current Spanish government is nothing but a filthy coalition of socialists. Then want to cite "human rights" in their own defense. No, you LOSE YOUR RIGHT TO LIFE when You willfully take another.
Nope. Spain here. Law mandates critical cargo ships must provide a cargo manifest and allow a full cargo eye inspection, and Maersk Denver denied both, therfor, they were kicked out our waters.

In a world of smoke and mirrors, it is a pleasure to learn "what is going on with shipping" from Sal. When i worked for a newspaper, the old editors would cant Keep it local get it right. They would have loved Sal.
US involvement in WW1 was predicated on the sinking of the RMS Lusitania (on its way from New York to Liverpool) which Germany correctly claimed was transporting weapons (173 tonnes of war material) despite US claims that the US itself was neutral and knew nothing about war material that may or may not have been on board. If that isn't using civilians (1,200 plus died) as human shields, then I don't know what is.
Under the rules of war existing at the time called the Prize Rules, merchant crews had to be taken off a ship and placed in safe custody, meaning that a U-boat would have to first surface and offload the crew of its target vessel. At the time the Lusitania was an unarmed merchant vessel. Although it could be converted to an armed merchant cruiser. The vessel was sunk in May, 1915 and by September due to international outrage, Germany suspended that policy of unrestricted submarine warfare, in Sept. of 1915 and resumed it two years later, in 1917. Sort of an admission a guilt wouldn't you say. The claim that it was transporting war material has never been proven definitely.
Well Im sure Spain certainly needs no help defending it's ships from the Houthis when they are fired on so good for you guys. You take care of you and we take care of we.
These shipments had components of military gear and these groups produced a detailed report of what was being transported from shipping documents. These items were designated for Israeli Department of Defense, and as stated in this video, the ship is part of Dept of Defense military shipping program,.

Nobody asked the Customs department in Spain for a copy of the cargo manifest because for sure there will one for all the cargo to be landed at Algeciras including transshipment cargo destined to other ports?
Bingo, that's my question too. Ship in Spanish waters seeking entry to a Spanish port is subject to inspection by the Spanish Coast Guard, as completely as Spain wants, and woe if that cargo manifest is not both complete and accurate!
@@davidgoodnow269 speaking as a container ship master of 20 years command experience, who made many many calls in Spanish ports over the years I never had the cargo manifest onboard because for a container ship the hard copy is so vast that it wouldn’t fill a wheelbarrow it would fill the bed of a pickup truck or a small van. Cargo manifests today are electronic for container ships. The only items of cargo ships’ crew get any information on are Dangerous Goods, Temperature/Atmosphere controlled and out of gauge (ie uncontainerised) items or very high value goods eg bank notes - new or old ones for destroying( but that one is very rare and usually only the Master would have it). Prior to arrival in any port the company representative / agent would ensure that a manifest was sent to the authorities prior to arrival for pre-clearance.

Even if you don't know but you SUSPECT that there is the slightest risk that an acquaintance MAY have leprosy, you are wise to stay away. Your acquaintance should not put you or anyone else in danger until checked and treated if necessary.. The examination in this case would be for the ship in quarantine to be fully unloaded and every container to be opened. If I wanted to avoid being diagnosed with leprosy, I might attempt to load my military supplies in a civilian port rather than naval declaring the pale patches on my skin to be "machine parts". Regardless of the attitudes of so many Americans, Americans must come to understand that SPAIN IS A COUNTRY WITH SOVEREIGN RIGHTS EVERY BIT AS IMPORTANT AS THOSE OF THE USA. There is an upwelling of disgust across the whole of Europe about the behaviour of the American Government with regard to that criminal regime in Palestine. Whilst so many of the elites in European Governments are doing all they can to ignore the demands of the majority of their peoples, some governments are prepared to put their heads above the parapet and side with their people. The Spanish Government is one such government. Regardless of the public pronouncements of the Irish elite, they are on the verge of being forced to follow Spain's example. There have been some very impassioned speeches right across the board in the Dáil Éireann (Irish Parliament) (try this th-cam.com/video/30lBnB2cbf8/w-d-xo.html )and the Irish people have been making their views known loud and clear. Roman Catholicism in Ireland is of traditional belief and they KNOW who was responsible for the murder of Jesus Christ .... even though the criminals got the Romans to do the dirty work for them. We know that the New York controlled media in America are trying to dismiss the growing disgust in America, but, sooner or later, even Trump may come to understand that supporting genocidal maniacs is not good for your image. Unlike Biden, Trump is mercurial and is libel to jump in totally unexpected directions. This Spanish problem would not have arisen if Joe Biden had organised sanctions against the renegade criminals in Palestine including a complete blockade by sea and air. (It is already isolated by land).Hopefully, this Spanish action will bring more Americans to their senses .... thanks Sal for doing your part. The cult in Palestine is every bit as odious as the regimes in Iran and North Korea. The Washington regime, if it had any decency, would be quenching the fire by starving it of oxygen, not piling on more fuel.

@markallan1382 well said sir, the good professor seems to forget these minor historical issues. And who defines what is and isn't military supplies. 🤔
you are correct that at the end of the day some people argue that everything war-related
My great aunt came over on Lusitania's last westbound crossing and told the family there was a deck gun mounted on the aft-most deck.

Claiming weapons or ammo only might be a trick of the tongue. You can claim that while shipping aircraft components, tank parts, weapons guidance systems.

They don't care. The "activists" just want to cause headaches for anyone shipping anything to Israel.
