I passed my test in 1956 on a similar machine. I quite often rode it with a broken gear change cable which meant it was permanently in 2nd (top) gear. Not much of a problem but it meant a run and bump start. It was a 1953 model and rode it for miles - not sure how many as it had no speedo but a lot. I think it cost £30 - a lot for a 16 year-old :)
