  • It is time for B650 motherboards! So let's take a look at the ASUS Strix B650-A. The Strix B650-A is one of ASUS' newest B650 motherboard. Even though it is a Strix motherboard, ASUS Strix B650-A seems like a great addition into the mid range Strix lineup. This ASUS Strix B650-A has a few evolutions since the B550-A, which I will cover in this ASUS Strix B650-A first look.

      How does this board hinder the performance of a 7900x or a 7950x? I genuinely have no idea.

  • @justetan3566
    @justetan3566 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Considering that the board has pretty decent vrm i really doubt a 7950x will have any issue on this board so you can do what the hell you want on there except extreme ln2 oc.
    This board is over 300 euros, which shoud be approx 250 dollars, if that's a "mid range" when the CH7 or M7 were 300 for high end then they went insane.
    Mid range should be 150-175 or 200 at best for wi fi and stuff not 250-300

    • @RealMelTan
      @RealMelTan  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yea haha u make sense. I dont think there's gonna be a big OC headroom on esp a 7950X unless u are gonna go LN2. But yea, i think for price wise (and sanity), just go for a Ryzen 5 0r 7 on this motherboard.
      That said, entering Ryzen 7000 will be more expensive than the older gen CPUs haha

    pci 5.0 for gpu doesn't matter at all, if this b650 covers your needs for m2, sata and usb ports, why wouldn't anyone use this instead of a x670 ?
    I really don't understand why you say this is a mb to use "at the most highest a 7700x". Are the vrm not good enough on this ?

    • @abhisheksakpal484
      @abhisheksakpal484 ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly people are confusing b650 and x670 with performance and price. The performance is the same, you just get more features like h8gher Vrm, x1 m2 slots, pcie5 gen slot which is useless currently, more USB ports and better audio and internet connections. If you don't need all that b650 makes perfect sense!. It's like getting a car with same engine but just going with a lower model with less fancy interior options than the topmost model. You still get the same engine and the performance!

    • @RealMelTan
      @RealMelTan  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes it is much better if i clarified it this way. I will be clearer in my next videos with regards to this. I think the performance difference between an B6 and X6 is not as great as a B5 and a X5. Ryzen 7000 CPUs are pushed quite a lot on either B6 and X6. So you are right above the main difference with regards to the ports and features on the different motherboards.
      Thank you for your feedback both :)

    Thanks for the video. I have a question. My plan is 7600x -> 7000x 3d -> 8000x 3d. I'll hold same mb through the generations as amd promises the support lasts until 2025. In this case, should I side with rog strix x670e, or b650 is good enough?

    • @RealMelTan
      @RealMelTan  ปีที่แล้ว

      Pretty cool question!
      IMO, if you want to get the higher end CPUs (eg, 7800X3d, 7900x or 8800X3d), i think an X670 is always better. Feels more complete because there are more lanes (ie more slots) on an X670 than a B650. I do not know how much would a B dampen the performance of a 3d CPU, because the 3d v cache is just gonna get better, u would probably not see much of a performce diff anyway?

    • @mclarenbutton6342
      @mclarenbutton6342 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The issue in the past was down to some mobos being made with corners cut on features especially BIOS chip sizes. These days 256Mb BIOS chips are standard so it shouldn't pose the same issues the X370 B350s had in supporting newer CPUs on the same socket. But that all said it still doesn't guarantee support in the future. Why? Because board partners want to sell you newer boards. Most 300 series chipsets have now gotten support for 5000 series AM4 CPUs with the exception of some boards not being about to support 5600G/5700G citing actual technical limitations on those boards. The key thing to note is that boards that didn't get 5000 series support had weak VRM designs.
      With current AM5 boards all overpriced and overbuilt on the VRM side the chance of being unable to support CPUs of the future is looking pretty unlikely on technical grounds alone, unless a board partner decides to be dick about it and refuse support just so they can try and sell to you a new mobo. With TDPs reaching 170W now, future CPUs may reach 200-235W on the uber high end like Ryzen 9 series. Ryzen 5 and Ryzen 7 will always be fairly reasonable on the TDP side otherwise you lose out on business customers who deploy Ryzen 5/7s now that Ryzen 7000s all have iGPUs making them viable for low cost power efficient builds for the offices.
      Bottom line is if the board in question has good 12 to 16 phases on the VRM with each stage being able to handle atleast 50A, it's already good enough for a future AM5 gamer CPU. Atleast that's what am assuming since you mentioned X3D versions of the future.

      Well this is hard. It depends on your budget and what you are doing with your PC.
      The big difference between them is the power delivery. I think you get roughly the same gen m.2 slots and PCIe with both chipsets. Just imo, if you going for a 7600X (max 7700X), a b650 is ok. 7900X / 7950x, better with a x670.
