I totally agree with you . THESE kinds of Structures are HERITAGE ITEMS . The Road Bridge was beyond saving but that Rail Bridge CAN be saved . Wouldn't even necessarily cost that much .
The two bridges spanned the Murrumbidgee river and its flood plain which prior to the construction of the Snowy Mountains Hydro Scheme flooded to some degree when the snow cap melted each year but heavy rain or heavy snow caps made the floods much worse. Obviously floods still occur but depending on the level of the interconnected Snowy hydro dams the flow can be mitigated to some extent.
love it, I think the cost factor to preserve them is far too great, and now they are in danger of collapsing,( how convenient) Gundagai town and the two bridges played a major part in Australian History,
Great vid Damian. Trying to get my bearings...The fabulous black and white photograph at the 40 second mark: are we looking north over the Murumbidgee, or south over Worley's Creek please? The rail bridge must be kept! It is very special.
it is looking across the Murrambidgee River, then there is a left hand turn that now goes down to the caravan park but if you follow it onward it shows over the flood plains that are now paddocks with everything from the left hand turn onward now demolished.

I travelled across that bridge back in the early sixties a couple of times.
I crossed it in 1971 as a child and still remember it as I remember the bridge between Brisbane and Redcliffe I was a few years younger for that one
I've driven over that bridge while on family holidays - many years ago 😀
This video was suggested to me by TH-cam and I liked the two bridges so much that I subscribed and hit the notification button.
