Welcome back and welcome to Battletech! When did I get into Battletech...long long ago...when FASA made it. I had little paper standees lol and though I did not get back into it until a few months ago, I have always loved the universe they created. I did not know it at the time but ~ 30 years later it would be my gateway into wargaming when I was "dragged" into 40k. Ten years later I have more games than I can ever play, (let alone build or paint) but I will keep trying!!
This is neat. I still can't believe I only got into tabletop gaming like a year ago - somehow just didn't know it was so extensive lol. Very happy you're enjoying the minis
I remember when Battletech was owned by FASA and was mostly a miniature wargame (there was a TTRPG, but I never got into it). It's at least as old as 40K. I don't think they've messed with the rules too much, and they're pretty playable. I haven't played the wargame for decades, although a few years ago I put several hundred hours into the PC version (specifically the RogueTech mod).
@danburrill you are correct. I have been playing 40K Since 1989 RT era and I started with a huge Battletech experience/game with friends before that. So I would have never jumped to 40K had I never played Battletech. It was fun, super cool if not a bit complex rules wise.
Yes start with the starter set . It is a cut down rule set. If you want to think of the different rules the normal rules are for a skirmish and alpha strike is for larger battles, like 40k. Go into Battletech back in the 80's. And yes to all i love battletech
Battletech is great! There is game called megamek that is the table top version of battletech but it does all the math and dice rolls for you. A lot of fun and a literal TON of lore.
Hi lass just dropped on your channel and yes I subscribed, never heard of battle tech but sure am intrigued in watching you progress in this new hobby . I'm also a painter who has just recently started a new adventure but mine is with scale modelling so I wish you all the best in your new adventure.
@@grandadsartspace5805 welcome in thanks for being here! I’d love to hear more about your scale modelling adventures! Do you have an instagram or will you be sharing on here at all?

My introduction to Battletech was Natasha Kerensky (Black Widow), Mechwarrior, and the Technical Readouts - which were like individual Mech stats for the game and stories for new Mechs. I also am a tactile learner as well so I am l excited to see where this goes. Shout out to Justin as well for providing an avenue to learn about the game. I am definitely "Peanut Butter and...jealous! 😂"
I have heard of Battletech and yeah it looks awesome. One day I might actually fully invest myself in it. I was a little bit concerned about over subscribing myself since Yeah Chanelle I'm loving all these. I'm not sure about how cute or adorable these are but they are more like the most badass Dreadnaughts in a Warhammer 40'000 context. I must get in to Battle Tech if I haven't said so already! 😮😅😊
Welcome to the hobby of Battletech. It is an amazing universe and game system. I have played this game since I was a child in the 90's, and this is a great time to be a new player just coming onto the scene. The community is great, it's a relaxed game, all about having fun.
@@HouseMasterPoDing Aw I love that, a real veteran then!! I’m really excited to learn more about the universe and give the game a try! These little mechs look awesome!!
@@lasshammer Yep. There are a variety of flavors of the game you can play, hopefully one will suit you. The fiction is a great selling point of the game, the universe is well done, it's like Game of Thrones in Space with stompy robots. Classic Battletech can be something of a slog, it's very detailed and heavy on the math. Alpha Strike is the miniatures scale game that plays much faster and more streamlined. And of course, the models are amaing little things.
I first played Battletech in high school back in 198... er a long time ago... when it was played with cardboard cutouts. Might have to look at it again.
Alpha Strike is streamlined and quicker to learn/play. The main game is a lot more 'crunchy' and complex but by extension has a lot more flexibility for designing your mechs and such. I haven't played in a long time but started it back in the 80s when it was owned by FASA.
Alpha Strike is also the "throw some terrain on a table and get out the tape measure" version of the rules for Battletech, which is probably an easier transition for someone coming from a Warhammer background. "Classic" rules (including Beginner Box, Essentials, and Mercenaries) are the crunchier, mathier version of the game, which is basically the same rules back to the 80s.
Battletech has fantastic lore, full of political intrigue, battles and great characters. The game is also epic. Really detailed and crunchy, but once it clicks it runs really well.
Battletech is great game - Like Games Workshop there are 40 years of rules and lore. There are several versions of the game from the crunchy simulation (Game of Armored Combat) and the larger forces and faster rules (Alpha Strike). It will be "drinking from a firehose" in the beginning but stick with it and you will find a universe as rich with lore as Warhams. The other key thing to remember coming in, is that there are different eras, and each era has different tech (rules). Start with the Universe book and you will get a good overview - Lastly there are a probably as many if not more novels than GW, and some good PC games too. Hope that helps Enjoy :)
If you thought Warhammer has a ton of lore and history, welcome to the rabbit hole that is Battletech. Whatever you do, never trust a Capellan, or ComStar aka Space AT&T. If you're playing the tabletop, start with Alpha Strike, it's a little less number crunchy and plays faster. I think you will enjoy all aspects of the setting
It’s a Tale of Two Cities situation with Battletech. On one hand it was experiencing a big resurgence and a line of great new minis, but on the other hand, the current publishers CATALYST GAME LABS is handling the property horribly. Terrible customer service, a horribly mismanaged kickstarter, a line up of sub standard authors that are ruining the lore and driving the story into the ground, and of course they’re injecting their “current year” politics into this 80’s era retro-future setting. Love old BT, but the timeline ends in the year 3067. Don’t give the crooks at CATALYST your time or money. Saying this as a longtime BT fanboy, and it hurts.
One. Of. Us! One. Of. Us! Love to see you getting into a great game :)
I've never played Battletech on tabletop, but back in my commission painting days, I painted a LOT of them. They're really fun to paint 😁
