    I bought one of these a few weeks ago (before I'd even seen this video) and it's been a revelation. Several times I've almost putted it in from off the green. It's by far much more consistent for me, as a 20+ handicapper, than any other club around the green. Those who comment about the loft being the same as an 8/9 iron, so don't bother with a chipper, just learn to use existing club, are totally missing the point. Everything about the chipper is different to any iron and it produces better results, certainly for those of us with high handicaps.
    I bought mine for £25 thinking if it is a waste, then I haven't spent much. It's turned out to be the biggest bargain to improve my results.

    The thing I like best about my chipper is the added weight, compared to an 8-iron. Also, the chipper goes dead straight whereas the iron can often go a bit left or right. And the big deal is I don’t recall ever chucking my chipper whereas I chunk my 8-iron about 10-20% 8:46 of the time I chip with it, which can be costly.

    I got this exact club a couple of years ago after being frustrated by bad chipping, and it's stayed in my bag since. A common complaint as seen in these comments is the need to remove another club to put it in, but the standard of player looking to use a chipper is unlikely to be carrying a full complement of clubs anyway, and certainly not a full set of wedges!

      Absolutely a voice of reason, many golfers get the game very confused and manage to over complicate it, glad it is working for you👍

    Couldn't you do the same thing by choking down on a 7 iron/hybrid, and using a putting stroke?

    Visually this is near identical to one thats been in my family for...probably more whole life lol that I dug out last year as Crossfield was talking about his Cleveland Chipper and I knew we had that one somewhere for me to mess around with. It is fun around the green but does feel very limited because of the general shape and size. I recently got the ChipR because I liked the look and slight more versatility of it compared to the Cleveland one but theyre both definitely the top 2 since they can be used from 50-100 even if the manufactures "dont advise" it. I suppose the Square Strike or that style one could be the happy medium of more affordable and a bit more options vs the lofted putter ones.

    I’ve been gaming a smart sole C for 2 seasons now. I find if I can limit its use I am better off. Meaning for short chips I’m more accurate with a 56 or 60* wedge. But for chips that need to cover a longer shot I go with the chipper. I like that it stays on line. Sometimes when I chip long distances with a wedge it will have some funky side spin.

    We have a Wilson chipper which is about the same price point. The missus is absolutely lethal with it. It is one dimensional. I don't know if i would pay more money for it. I did put a lamkin grip on it which does make a difference.

    For the average golfer, whatever works! Golf is more fun if you are getting closer to the hole. But if you have deep pockets and money is no object, the Ping has more prestige value. I prefer using equipment that helps me play better golf, and at the price of this chipper, this is what I would buy.

    Why not just use your 8 or even 7 iron with a putting stroke 🤷‍♂️

    • @erock1070
      @erock1070 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can. But an iron doesn’t have an upright lie like a chipper does. Also shaft length. Most people don’t choke down enough When chipping with an iron.

    Hi Andy. I own both a ping chipper and a cheaper more traditional chipper. When using the cheaper version I got a lot of stick for using it, where as with the ping chipper nobody has even noticed. Both are good products . The solution is to practice your wedge game but I find I don’t have the time to fit it in my hectic work schedule. If you don’t mind the stick off your pals then go for cheaper option but you want to be sly and don’t mind spending the extra cash then the Ping is the route to go down.

      Why are these frowned upon? The goal in golf is to get the ball in the hole in the least amount of shots rights? So if these legal clubs work for you them use them. Nobody mentions the mailbox sized driver you’re using, that’s ok I guess…but this chipper?Your pals won’t be laughing when they hand over their cash.

    Save the extra cash and buy the cheap one. I care nothing about any stigma about carrying a chipper. I even call it my cheat stick. Let them laugh at you while you're taking their money. The point is to lower your scores and have more fun. Putting a chipper in my bag has done that for me.

    I have one like this one from PowerBilt golf, but upgraded to an Odyssey Xact Tank Chipper. Both are great clubs, the only difference is price new. My Odyssey Chipper was $50.00 used with a Super Stoke grip. I also a few other chippers. The style in this video was original on a North Western Chipper back in 5he 80’s here in the States. A 7i or 8i works well also if folks are to proud to use a Chipper. Practice, practice, practice with the normal irons.

    I have carried a Cleveland Launcher HB 9-iron as a "chipper" for about 3 years. I say "chipper", because I can hit it out of basically ANY lie successfully-- heavy rough, bare dirt, tight fairway, hard pan -- you name it. It is awesome out of cross bunkers from, say, 115 yards out (subject to your swing speed, obviously. I hit it the same distance as my Mizuno 9i). I like it so much that I am now testing a Cobra t-rail GW for most to the same reasons: versatility from 100 yards in and around the green. I don't think you have to restrict your thinking to a Chipper. The 2 clubs I mention have most of the same characteristics: lots of bounce; thick, forgiving sole; forgiveness across the face. I am 63 and play to a 6 to 8 HDCP. Shot 2 73s and a 74 last week with these 2 clubs in the bag.

    I've had an XF Pro chipper in my bag for quite a number of years and find it invaluable and a confidence booster, I've lost count of how many times I've holed out with it. It's handy for use as a getting back into play club if your drive ends up in a tight spot where you can't make a swing with a larger club, can be a godsend.

    You can replicate this by without buying another club by holding a something like a 9 iron with the shaft upright (toe more down -heel more up) and using a putting grip. It's not hard to master and removes the need to drop another club from the bag.

    I'm a nine HC with a pretty good short game, but I do have the shanks every once in a while. I put a 45 degree Square Strike and haven't looked back. It's my go to club from 30 yards and in. It just makes the mistakes smaller around the greens.

  • @jtboise1
    @jtboise1 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    In the end, it's the same or close to loft as a 9-iron. Just learn the bump and run and learn which club is going to give you the distance roll you want. Not worth giving up another club in the bag for this. You already have it.

    What's best a 37 degree or a 32 degree in this range I do tend to over hit my chips maybe the 37degree maybe better. I over hit chips and also top sometimes.
