    I interviewed at the ICU for clinical tech (pre-cna before starting cna school). Your tips gave me some ideas of what the DoN might ask me for my job, such as management of difficult patients or situations. I also watched cna skills videos so when I shadowed, I was able to help the actual CNA with a patient. Anyway, I got the job! Thank you so much for your generous and excellent advice!

    Can you provide advice for an RN returning to the bedside after 3 years off? I have two years of Med Surg from 2015 to 2017 and 4 months in PCU. I worked a temp job in PCU during the pandemic. I really don't want to get stuck in M/S. I do have gaps in employment but I took time off for school and family things. Anyway, my long-term goal is AGAC-NP. What can I do to get back on track so I can succeed in my career goals?

    I know this video is old but I just received my first RN offer in the CVICU. They asked me the blood flow through the heart and 1 question about cardiogenic shock. I didn’t mention CRNA though😂😂 but they did ask me my 5 year goal. Thank you so much.

    Do you recommend new grad nurses starting in the ICU? I really don’t want to do med-surg lol

    • @NurseKaylana
      @NurseKaylana  3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      It really depends on you and the unit. I don't believe in working your way up (if you can handle the learning curve and the stress). I think the unit also needs to be supportive of new grads. They have to have preceptors that are patient and actually want to teach a new nurse. As an ICU nurse, you'll float to lower acuity floors and other than time management (juggling multiple patients), you wouldn't be missing anything IMO.

    please do a video on how to get into the icu from being a new grad nurse...ill be graduating in December 2022 and would love to go into the icu right away. thank you! also do you think its a good idea to look into icu residency programs?

    • @NurseKaylana
      @NurseKaylana  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Will do! ICU residency programs as in for new grads? Absolutely. You need a unit that actually wants to teach new nurses and has made a special attempt to understand how to without scaring you off.

    I am applying to nursing school and my plan from day one was to become a CRNA. What would you say is the best critical care unit to work to better prepare you for CRNA school. I would want the sickest of the sickest patients.

    • @NurseKaylana
      @NurseKaylana  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      If you want sickest of the sick, I would say CVICU. Not sure if you have a lot of options of hospitals in your area, but look into the cardiac services the hospital offers. I say this because I worked at a level 2 that did heart/lung transplants, ECMO, VADs, etc. while the level 1 across the street didn't. Both the biggest hospitals in my area. I plan to include this question in an upcoming Q&A video and will include other ICUs that are still beneficial because you can still get some crazy sick patients in other ICUs.

      Did your second attempt work out? I went straight to ICU residency straight out of school and I had a horrible experience and a terrible preceptor so I've been in Dialysis the last 7 seven years. Now seven years later I'm going to give it another shot. Hopefully this time it's a better experience.
