I love creating a "book Bingo" spread. Basically in a way to get me to read more outside my comfort zone or for just for diversity or even if I'm in reading slump. I create a 5x5 chart and fill it in with promps like a book from our birth year, historical fiction, memoir, book with two authors, POC main character, POC Author, translated book, multiple POV, non-fiction, non human main character, LGBTQ+ main character... and so on.

How does a square notebook seem so fun? This is gorgeous and I feel quite inspired to make my own! 2021 will be my second year doing what I've called the "Read Your Bookshelf" challenge, I made prompts for each month of the year and then will be picking a book that fills the prompt from off my shelf. I love that with art journaling you can always cover up any kind of mistakes, it works with my slightly OCD personality. Okay, thank you so much for the inspiration! I feel like I really need to go buy a notebook now and get going on this!!!!

I remember many years ago when I was still in my early twenties and blogs were all the rage a girl I followed kept mentioning how many books she had read or planned on reading that year. I was mystified because I didn't understand why you would keep track. I keep track now (30 books this year) but I also feel that I don't enjoy reading as much. Reading challenges keep me reading, which is good, but I didn't use to need an excuse to read. Reading was a pleasure in itself (or maybe a compulsion) and I couldn't care less what other people read or what they thought about my books. I'm not sure I'm happier now, and I don't know how to go back.
Sorry for the downer, I've just been thinking about this a lot lately.

I've been doing bullet journaling for a couple of years now, and it's been the most creative thing I've been able to do. In terms of what I'd use a second one for... I'd use it as a daily journal. With a family member having stage 4 cancer, I feel like using a daily journal to write down my feelings and emotions would be a good thing to do. Something to help me cope with the inevitable, as I don't have many people to talk to. I started a daily journal this year, when the family found out about the cancer, as well as when my dog died, and it's helped me quite a bit so far. Because even on days where I just "didn't care", I was able to jot down what I was feeling, throughout quarantine, and it's helped me quite a bit.

I hadn’t thought about it, but I guess I have several bonus journals- reading, knitting, budgeting/finance and a five-year diary (you just add a few sentences and can see your entries from that day on previous years on the same page). I’m adding yet another this year, which will be a separate bujo dedicated to work. It used to work for me to include work with my personal, but working from home this year has made me want to redraw some boundaries and separate them. I’ve never done any spreads in my reading journal so thanks for the inspiration!

I'm not usually a fan of scrapbooking in a BuJo, but yours looks so lovely! I don't think I'd try it for myself (I need something more minimal or I'll get distracted), but I love how you connected your love for reading with the aesthethic and feel of your journal. I love reading, but with 2 young children and cooped up during the pandemic, I've found I have very little time for it, unfortunately... So I wouldn't make a reading journal, but my husband and I do have personal BuJos and we also have a shared one for our finances and family goals. It's been working great for our little family!
Hope you're having a wonderful day and enjoy a lovely Christmas with your hubby!

I've been keeping reading journals for a few years. Prior to 2020 I was reading a lot, and I found that I would forget things, so I started a reading journal with an entry for each book I read. I don't do ratings, but I do a synopsis and any details or thoughts about the book I might want to refer back to. It helps when putting down a series to come back to later on when the next book is available. I'm onto my second journal, unfortunately I fell off the reading wagon at the beginning of 2020 and haven't gotten back on. Maybe I will soon. I do miss it, I just got way too busy ironically at the time when everyone else had lots of free time due to covid lockdown.

Fun fact, I spent this morning with setting up with my reading journal. I started this years ago (2018, I think) and it lasted til now. I mainly note there which book I read, some basic facts about the book (author, format, publish date, if it's a translation and so on) and if there are quotes that I really like because then I have many on hand if I need them which I do suprisingly often. I love reading through it again years later, especially the selected quotes. Most of them I still love but some are more meh now.
By the way I did not manage the 100 books. By the end of the year it will probably 93 books.

I'd probably make a reading journal because I forget what books I've read without seeing the cover. Like I can tell you where that specific book is located in a specific library but for the life of me I can never remember names. So I think a reading journal would be a load of fun to go down memory lane, reread old books and just create fun spreads!

i love the collage style you did for this set up - very reminiscent of an actual old library or collection. and more utilitarian, but having a journal for my job would be why i’d start another journal. working at home means it’s harder to separate work and my personal life. i’ve always kept everything in a single journal, but a work journal would be a physical barrier between the two. i’m on instagram at clairemiller.png

  • @melodyhawley

I love the idea of reading spreads! I also did a reading goal spread this year. It was a bunch of big books and I colored them in as the tracker, but just wrote multitudinous names on the spine of the large books. It wasn’t the cleanest. I really love the idea of doing one similar to your TBR somehow. Maybe an abstract and simple art cover thing instead, so I don’t need to print things. Thank you for the ideas!
If I had a second book (sometimes I use two books for yearly/monthly and a weekly journal) that wasn’t a weekly journal, I would love to make a version of a common place notebook, where I could track my favorite quotes and keep notes from the miscellaneous things I am learning at the time, but in an artistic/doodled/scrapbooking sort of way. That way my main journal could be more functional and efficient for daily use, and interesting things that make me happy can be collected in the other. IG: @Aesthewen

I was thinking about bujo for historical sewing. It is definetly a lot to track, no only productivty, but pattern and fabric stash, events that nedds specific items finished, fabric and inspiration swatches... But last few years I made big plans and finished almost nothing. Seeing my plans on paper and compering them with I accualy achieved made me sad. This year I give up totally, I just focused on learning new totally diferent skills and not pushng myself anywhere. And it was way mere satisfaying!
So may be I made instead small notebook with tips and ideas about being just happy and spend some nice time - ideas for trips and walks, what I wih to paint or craft, some new recipes to cook. And even challenges to myself - use sticker you bought six months ago, paint something and hang it on the wall, use some stationery stuff you bought... I´m still waiting for being skilled enaught, for perfect bujo spread tu use nice stickers fot it, it is weird and I´m happy I finally live more freely.

However, I'm a big fantasy reader and so I've got a spread to track the series I'm reading. This will be my first year making a reading journal! Because I'm a Literature student I will include a books for college spread. I think I will also make another journal for classical music. In 2020 I had some spreads on my regular bujo for classical music, but this year I watched and listened to SO MANY operas that I feel it just deserves a separate place where I can write down my favorite recordings and albums, the upcoming releases, ect. I'm also starting to have more serious opinions on the classical music that I hear, so I'd like having somewhere to write down my thoughts.

What a great idea ! ❤ I'm so sad plantmas is almost over !
For my part, I've been doing pole fitness for a few years but in the past year I haven't made any progress, I think I've lost some of my strength and flexibility. Your plantmas gave me a lot of ideas to create a bujo to track my progress, to write workout routine and some new pole combo (I ALWAYS forget them) as well as pole move goals I want to be able to do !

I love the aesthetic for this one :)
I would make a separate bujo for medieval German literature... it’s my field of study and I love it. The language is captivating and old handwritten books (codices) are so visually appealing and beautiful. I would keep track of the Stories ive read, cross references and research literature on all the topics, as well as highlights of my lectures, notes on special things and so on. :) I’m kind of a nerd about medieval books as you can tell 😅 love from Germany :)

I never really journalled (don’t know if you can write it like this), but lately I feel like I want to read more in 2021 and then mostly non fiction. I wanted to start annotating books, although I don’t feel at ease with the idea of writing in my books. A journal would be perfect for this, and you just giving this video to us feels like a conformation for me.

This is so lovely. It has such a nice cozy vibe.
Hmmm I would use a separate journal to track my botanical art. I would list plants I’ve drawn and painted, what medium, what I learned about the plant, etc. I would include little diagrams to help understand the plants’ anatomy. I am going to do this anyway, but I haven’t decided on a journal to use. I’m doing this because I eventually want a career in botanical or floral illustration.

I would probably make a general review journal. Seperating books specifically would not feel right to me, I like to consume stories in all formats. So yeah a review journal, as a place for me to write down my thoughts on books, movies and tv-shows, but also maybe podcasts and art and exhibitions, as I visit a lot of museums, as an art student. I could keep track of release dates and openings as well. Thats sounds really good to me.

I actually have four journals (I always had issues with disliking adding certain things in my journal). I have my regular bullet journal for school, my writing journal where I write short stories based on prompts, my tarot reading journal where I record my tarot readings, and my “content” journal where I do spreads from stuff I’ve watched and read (books, manga, anime, tv shows, movies, etc). My favorite journal by far is my content journal

I'm always so impressed with your set ups, they are always so beautiful! And that yellow notebook is so pretty! I just started bullet journaling in June of this year and it has really helped my mental health and anxiety, its helped be more organized and stay on track ( which can be very difficult with depression) but also given me a outlet to help me when I'm feeling anxious. I've actually been thinking about a goal type of bujo, somewhere I can keep track of my goals, timelines for those goals, steps I need to take etc so far I just keep them in a random notebook but would love to migrate them and have more room for plans. I think i might also look into setting up a reading journal as well as I tend to have a hard time remembering the names of books I've read, if someone tells me the plot of any book i can tell you if I've read it but not just by the name so I look forward to seeing more of your reading bujo for inspo! I dont have twitter or insta so here is my email tessa.grignon@gmail.com :)

Wow I never thought this type of bujo😍 Now I have in my bujo tbr styled spread, because I have "bad" habit of reading too many books at the same time... And my boyfriend suggested that I draw a flower after I read a book.

If I could recommend one book bujo tip it would be to make both a “tbr” and a “books read” page each month. Just because I find this makes me not feel so pressured to read my planned tbr, if I end up reading something else, I still have a place to write it in and track it 😊

I really want to make a separate bujo for my memories. I started in the past few weeks to make a list of all the things I never want to forget (memories with my friends, family, books, movies, any memories).
So basically I want to have a page or two for each memory, where I give a "title" ans de scribe what is the memory and why I dont want to forget it. I hope to be able to remember some things from a long time ago and put them in there too. That's what I'd love to have a separate bujo for !

I’ve been thinking about making a master archive journal for the recipes I try. I’ve been a little more adventurous in my cooking this year, but my recipes are scattered everywhere (my head, my photos folder on my phone, a Pinterest board) and I’m not the best at remembering how I’ve modified the recipe and how much I liked it 😬 I think I also want to track the recipes that I want to try 🤔
Now that I’ve written that out, I’m definitely making that journal! 😂

I just watched you're video and I think it is a wonderful idea to have a reading journal. I think I will start one of my own. Before I started journaling and colouring I read a lot and I kept a list of books I read from 2017 on, I also use Goodreads but I also want to write more down on the book which I don't do at Goodreads to know later on what I really loved or hated in a book without spoiler to much for people who haven't read the book. A reading journal would be perfect for this. Thanks a lot for the tip.
