  • OtterBox makes some of the best cases for the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. I chose just five the the best cases for the Note 20 Ultra that OtterBox has to offer. It is difficult to find the best screen protector for the Note 20 Ultra. So I had to make an adjustment to the installation process of the Whitestone Dome Glass for the Note 20 Ultra. Now the glass fits with the Defender Case, but I have not found a way to make it work with the Defender Pro. My favorite Case for the Note 20 Ultra remains the Defender Not the Defender Pro.

    Can anyone recommend a good case that also covers the s-pen and charging port? Someone asked in the comments of another video here on my channel if I knew of a case like this. If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

    Husband has used Otterboxes exclusively for years as he's the king of drops & destructive talent. I used to have one as well and can vouch for the superior prtotection & quality. I do hink there's not enough attention to what appeals to women. They have a few cases with colors, but it all feels like an after thought. Detailed video.

    Since people are coming here looking for Dome Glass compatibility, I've already installed between 60-70 of them on phones. Cases that work without any doubt, even if the protector isn't put on perfect:
    ALL Spigen cases. Tough Armor is the only one that will depend on how well you installed it.
    ALL Supcase cases. Same as above for the Unicorn Beetle Pro.
    ALL UAG cases. Same again for the Monarch.
    ALL Incipio cases. Same again with the Dual Pro.
    ALL Samsung Cases.
    In the last 2 years, Otterbox compatibility has gone down, it seems as though they're trying to design against Dome Glass to sell their garbage Alpha Glass.
    I personally use Spigen Tough Armor. I used to put Commuter / Defender Pro on all my phones but in my experience, the times I have broken a Dome Glass screen protector, it's been due to a direct hit on an unlevel area. The case I chose didn't matter at all. I've never had the Tough Armor fail me in any area regarding the actual phone itself.

      I've used invisible shield with samsung galaxy note 2 and it didn' protect the glass from drops. Other than that it was nice.
      So I switched to glass once and once I bought note8 I've used whitestone since the glass is curved andnother curved screen protectors don't stick as well.
      For cases, well I love the purple/clear one from supcase, I think it was UB style, the one with purple covers and clear back. I dropped my phone once on concrete with small stones and my phone didn't have a scratch so I wpuld stick with them.
      Sadly for note 20 ultra they didn't have a purple one so I just took the plain black one. So mainly the protective qualities without being too bulky like otterbox's defender is what attracts me. Also thr color purple lol.
      I don't like the flip covers or anything, just plain one piece case that covers everything else except the screen.

    i love the fact that he went to the extent of showing ever kind of use for these cases, i hate that most people that review cases are just brushing over them, like its a $2000 phone, i want to know if i should buy the case and if it actually protects the most expensive parts of the phone, aka the camera, as much as i was thinking of the commuter and symmetry they just dont cover the camera enough for the price, as he said its a flush type of design, which is a but of a worry you want that little bit more of a lip on the back for the camera, but you can also just put it face down, then again if you want to see your notifications you should be able to put it on its back without having to worry about the camera at all. either way appreciate the time and effort taken to make this video, really a lot better if not the best for cases. and hopefully the defender case isnt super fat and massive considering how big the phone is already

    I’ve had otter box on every phone I’ve owned. Best cases period. My phones are all flawless. Currently have the Pro on my Note Ultra. On the very first day I knocked my phone off my night stand with my back pack and it fell at an awkward angle striking the base of the night stand and the backpack on top. I thought I was screwed. I ended up with a small crack to the very top of the Whitestone screen protector. Zero damage to my phone! I’m certain it would have completely smashed my phone if I didn’t have the protection on that I did. Otter box with Whitestone is bulletproof.

      @@BrantleyJd I adjusted the second screen to set a little bit lower than the first. Its not 100% where its meant to be by design but by doing that there is zero interfering from the Otterbox case. It was such a slight adjustment down from the top of the screen you don't even see it with the case on. I can't see how anyone would use this phone without a case. I get too many false touches without and I'm sure it would be smashed in about 7 minutes.

    The new Commuter and Symmetry cases are literal landfill. Let me
    explain: I currently daily a Note 9 and have a Note 20 Ultra on order, I
    have a Symmetry and a Commuter case for my Note 9 and they are
    excellent cases on the Note 9, HOWEVER, I ordered the Commuter for the
    Note 20 Ultra I have on order and they REALLY cheaped out on the
    construction and durability of the case, the Commuter for the Note 20 is
    WAY thinner than the version for the Note 9, and the Symmetry for the
    Note 9 has a rubber backing on the inside of the case that the version
    for the Note 20 DOESN'T HAVE. Considering how expensive Otterbox cases
    are, I am very disappointed, and after seeing the decline in build
    quality of the Otterbox cases in this video I will not be giving them my
    money. These phones are way too expensive for these kinds of
    shenanigans. I'll be looking for my protection elsewhere for this
    generation of phones.

    • @SomethingMobile
      @SomethingMobile  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Dude! Thank you so much for sharing your experience. This helps tremendously. You said you have the new commuter on order. Please let us know what you think when you get the new one in hand. I’m super curious. There is something about the new commuter that I really like. I thought it felt a little on the cheaper side when I first used it as well, which is why I was torn between the Symmetry and the Commuter. I really think the symmetry is more than enough protection. It may not be as protective as the past versions, but I think OtterBox wants to make their cases appeal to a larger consumer base. They have to be careful to not compete with the defender line of cases. You get what I mean? They have this amazing case like the defender. So they are using the other cases to capture and retain more buyers. We’ll have to see if their new direction sells and appeals to their current customers. It’s not right to leave their current Otters behind, but they must keep innovating. People and mobiles change so fast. It’s tough to know the right move to make.
      To be more direct with your thinking. Maybe they are trying to save a little money. This might be why they have used cheaper or less material. I just don’t know if this is true. We will see in the future if they receive some backlash or reduction in sales. In this case they will start giving better materials.
      All this aside. I think it’s true you should go with the brand and case that you feel the most secure with. Please let us know what brand and case you use. Thank you again for sharing your detailed thoughts. It took a lot of effort to do so. We all benefit from this. Please live like you are blessed and take care.

    Great Info and delivery! But I have a few concerns that seem to be overlooked or minimized reviews.
    No offense intended But, The UAG plasma case has ok upper and lower lip protection( Much less than the Otterbox defender.) Plus, it has virtually no side lip protection , and non existent interior shock absorption. ( those molded in designs or hexes do nothing but add style. ) the corners do have extra air pockets to absorb drops.
    I have yet to see any proof of these Military grade ratings that are put to the test, and the ground isnt simply a clean floor from a 4-5 ft drop. However, They do LOOK great, ( plasma ash, ice ) and The newer solid color versions. The monarch, is 50.00, and doesnt stand a chance against the Otterbox defender in levels of protection, but they dont look as nice.
    So, a person needs to spend 40.00 extra for the tempered glass when using minimal lip cases..or face the chance of shattering the screen when its dropped on a street and a piece of gravel is there to say goodbye to the bare glass screen. whether its gorilla glass 6 or 7.

    • @SomethingMobile
      @SomethingMobile  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @S. philips, thank you, and no offense taken! Let’s get to this. The Defender is my first choice of any case, because I purchase for function and protection. The case I would not choose over a plasma case is the OtterBox Commuter. That’s the case I was meaning to refer to in the video. Just to be clear... The Defender is the first case one should buy. If not only to try it first. It surprised me to no end.
      I’ve dropped my iPhone in a UAG. The phone seemed to bounce lol. The sides of the Monarch for the Note 10+ are plenty high to provide protection. The plasma are a bit low, but that’s what I like about it really. It’s a good slim but protective case. I really do feel that UAG makes a good drop protective case. The back of the case being so solid absorbs the impact so the phone screen doesn’t. The corners have lots of outer rubber to help with this as well. Please give UAG a try if you haven’t already. The style isn’t for everyone. Due to it’s design. If you want a tight fitting, protective, yet slim design case. The plasma might be worth a try. The one thing to keep in mind is the warranty program that OtterBox has. It’s hard to beat the Support team you get with OtterBox as well. Simply top notch. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts. I really appreciate you taking the time. You are awesome!🙂👍

      The Pelican Shield is the best case of all in term of protection. It is better than Otterbox defender pro in drop protection. The problem of Pelican is that they are not doing the Pelican Shield for all the model of smarthphone. They only make that case for iPhone and Samsung Galaxy S10, Very sad for that. I have several rugged case for my iPhone 11 Pro Max, and trust me, the Pelican Shield is a tank, that case has a incredibly bounce in the drop and can survive anything. @@joshuawilliams8319 The Pelican Shield is the best case. It would definitely be great if Pelican make one for the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 ultra. The Pelican Shield when I ordered it for my iPhone 11 Pro Max, I had other rugged cases, including the Otterbox defender, Supcase, Poetic, and at first when I opened the box and put the Pelican Shield on the iPhone, I was not impressed by the case not at all, and I thought Otterbox Defender Pro was better. After I used the Pelican Shield for a while, the cell phone was accidentally dropped on several occasions and I realized how protective it is and the bounce it produces when the cell phone is dropped. It's impressive how the Pelican Shield handles drops. After I observe the case well, I can tell you that its design was well thought out and analyzed because on the back it is a polycarbonate with aramid fiber and on the edges it has an excellent quality rubber, then on the front it has very good raised lips although not as much as the Otterbox Defender Pro, but big enough to handle frontal drops. In the front frame its material is hard and is combined with rubber. The front internal part where the cell phone screen touches is a soft rubber (different from Otterbox defender pro that what touches the screen is a plastic frame) which guarantees that in a frontal fall the cell phone screen does not suffer external and internal damages , for example in the mega pixels of the display. On the inside of the case it is combined with some rubber edges that guarantee that in a fall the cell phone is protected since the case cushions the impact. In the corners the material is a rigid aramid fiber that bounces when it makes contact with the ground. Anyway, I will tell you that the Pelican Shield in my opinion is the most protective case I have ever seen, which is sad that Pelican Shield has not known how to promote that case so that it has more fame and sales. The Spigen GLAStR Platinum 2.0 is about 1 or 2 mm shorter than the Whitestone and therefore looks like it will just barely fit without drifting from procedure. I bought both on Amazon and they look identical except for the top speaker notch of the Whitestone. Both have the same clarity as far as I can tell without installing them on the actual phone. The Defender and Defender Pro share the EXACT same main shell. The only difference is in the outer rubber footprint/texture. I will try installing the Spigen and see if I have any fitment issues. I will return the Whitestone and Defender.

Whitestone may see this comment thread, and others would benefit of you are comfortable sharing. Other than that. It's great the Defender Pro is good for you. I may have to stop recommending Whitestone if problems persist with support. @@SomethingMobile I'm fiddling around with 4 so far. To be honest I'm not looking for max protection, but I want some. I'm leaning towards the Spigen Slim Armor CS. I really enjoy being able to carry cards without my wallet and the case has a mystic bronze option so it shows off the color while protecting it. It's a very good case, nice buttons and rubber grips, but the back is kind of slick. Only downside. It's no defender, but it is bulky enough I wouldn't be scared dropping it from 5 or 6 feet. Raised camera lip and screen lip. I also bought 2 very affordable clear cases. The ESR Tempered Glass clear case and a TORRAS crystal clear. Both are super nice. The TORRAS is awesome. It's super grippy and truly crystal clear and it has tiny microdots that are supposed to prevent smudging and discoloring. It seems to work. It protects the camera and screen, but only slightly. 0.6 and 0.8mm. As much as I like it, I'm a little nervous of dropping it from anywhere higher than waist. The ESR is a bit sturdier feeling on the corners and the lip over the screen and camera is a tad higher. The back is Glass which prevents yellowing and scratches entirely. Strangely reviews on past models say it almost never cracks if dropped. The main downside is I don't like it's feel in my hands as much. I also have a Samsung Leather case on order. The green. It has a camera lip but I doubt it has any protection ... But it's so Gucci... I just don't know what to do

I'm going to assume the Whitestone some camera protector I have ordered will do the same. Did you test one? The only other options are black ones that have holes over all lenses and the flash. Apparently the black prevents lens flare... But I love the camera bumps blackish pink hue... But I'm super paranoid of scratching it, especially since it is Gorilla Glass 6, not 7.

      Pop socket has a wallet you can put on your phone or phone case. My wife uses one. It stays put. You can detach it when needed. It doesn't fall off so accident. Just make sure to use and alcohol wipe to clean the case where you are applying the 3m sticky part of the wallet. It's super nice. Just not as seamless as the case you have for Spigen. Thank you for being so detailed on your cases, and experience. I could make a video with the details you gave. Lol. So good. Also, I have not used anything to cover the camera lenses yet. I'm with you in not wanting to cover them with a colored film. The lenses camera is so beautiful! They will scratch no doubt about it. It's only a matter of time really. @SomethingMobile  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Lol. I will never say 100%. There is no coming back from that lol. I can tell you that from what you see in this video. The symmetry and Whitestone work for me. I’m thinking you should be just fine. Make sure you take the glass out of the package and line it up on the phone with the symmetry on. This way if it doesn’t work you can pack up the case or the screen protector to return one of the two. You get what I mean? Anyway, I think you will be good. Having said this. I don’t really want to recommend the Whitestone to anyone right now. Whitestone has not been responding to emails from customers and it’s super hard to get a hold of customer services. For this reason it’s hard for me to say go get the Whitestone. I would get an AmFilm before Whitestone, it is a little bit more case friendly, cheaper, and better customer service. One person said in the comment section of one of my videos. That she had trouble with a small tray for the AmFilm. Which caused the installation to go wrong, but she got a replacement fast. At least you know AmFilm will give you a replacement pretty fast. Hope this helps. 👍

      I've had my Defender Pro case on my Ultra for about three weeks. I haven't had any trouble with fit. Sometimes with new phones I strip the case one or twice a week just to feel the new phone lol. I end up leaving it alone after a month or so, and I've broken an S8 and an S10+ using the symmetry case so I stick with the Defender.
      I can say I've seen no damage to the glass. And the tabs haven't broken from taking it apart multiple times. The Defender Pro on my replacement 10+ did squeak but this one doesn't. I have seen in the past couple of days a few people say in my comments. There is a sale going on for the OtterBox defender case. I think that you will like supcase. But I trust my phone with OtterBox more, and you have a great warranty with the OtterBox. If anything goes wrong with your case. Keep your receipt for proof of purchase, and they will send you a new one. You will just pay for the shipping. It’s about $10 here in California. I would buy both cases. • @SomethingMobile
      @SomethingMobile  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Michael Breton. Totally correct. AmFilm is the best by far. When installing the AmFilm installation tray is a bit tight, and will only let the glass past it work perfectly placed. Make sure not to push down on it to make it push past the tray. This will cause a splash into the glue.

    • @SomethingMobile

      Great question. Right... the phone has a coating for protection. Dig a little deeper into the pop socket box. Your will find a little round piece of film. That is more of a static cling plastic. Use that first. Put that on the phone then the pop socket will stick to that. As for the symmetry cases... I have to check on that. I know it will work with the clear symmetry. Maybe not the black.

      @@SomethingMobile what's the major design flaw?

    • @SomethingMobile
      @SomethingMobile  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@philsvideos4509, I have pretty big hands so this relates to me more, but I noticed the pop socket is built in. So this means that there is a major limit to how much the pop socket can come out. I can only get the top part of my finger tips between the case and the pop socket. Unless they have changed that about this year's case. There are two flaws really. The next one is still related to the pop socket being inset though. The inset doesn't allow for the pop socket to be used as a kick stand. Both of these reasons are why I really like pop sockets. To when I went to the store to try the OtterPop on my phone I was so bummed. I really like the idea. It just didn't wake for me. The positive about the inset is the slim design. It slides in and out of the pocket better, but I want to like the feel of the case while I'm using it. Not while it's in my pocket. I really like that Otterbox and pop socket are bring us these cool designs. I just think they need some time to iron things out. Then again I haven't used the new version. Maybe it's better. I'll take a look. Thank you again for taking the time to request this case. 🙂
