Chisa did the MJ cover since fans asked for it when she did an impromptu performance during an interview, song association from the variety show called the herald in Korea. Utada Hikaru is a Legend in Asia for Japanese Pop music. In 1999, when she was 15/16, her first Japanese album First Love debuted and changed the shape of Japan's music scene by incorporating R&B into Japanese pop music. It's still the highest sold album in Japan today.

For as talented as they are (and to be sure they are otherworldly talented) the route that they are taking is so unique in this day and age and I am mad impressed by them. I remember back in the day, artists would put in work and pay tribute to those who came before, then they would blaze their own trail. Tell me all these XG Tapes & Vox's are them doing just that, paying homage to those who came before. But it's also them putting in the work to show n prove that it's not just words. It's not a group "concept" per se. Stripping it down to basics, you have a Japanese girl group, not just trying to make a R&B or hip-hop sounding track or two, but trying to make actual in-roads into the community. It could have been met with skepticism (look - the world is how the world is) but these tapes, performances, and SONG CHOICES (shout out to them and the team on these selections) are really proving they are genuine about their love and respect for R&B and hip-hop. I hope they continue down this path because what they are doing is exactly what I have been missing from music for a long time.

I was trying to think what song they would cover. I actually have a r&b girl group playlist so I would listen to it thinking what suit them best. No scrubs was nowhere on my radar lol. They killed it! Both their solos and the group. In my honest opinion, thinking they should’ve went with SWV “Rain”. It fits the vibe and would show off their voices more.
