He's talking about a bad solder joint on a pin of the circuit card. All he did was use a soldering iron to redo or "reflow" the solder joints that he points to at 5:00
If you have basic soldering skills and a sense of awareness you can have a go at it. The problem in most cases is the BAD JOINT. Second "best" is the bad electrolytic cap nearby the vertical deflection IC. If you're not familiar with electronics on such level, I don't advise you to attempt fixing it, find a buddy who is competent in this area. Don't take this as an insult, it's for your safety.
hi bro,my crt tv make horizonta line and i found that the vertical ic was blow up i replece it with new one 4 times these 4 ic was also blow up. WHAT DO U SUGEST ME!! PLZ GIVE ME REPLAY.
Notice the time to charge up the tube itself is quite long. A great hobby but the aging electronics (or the picture tube itself) suggests not long before the TV is to be recycled for environmental safe waste disposal from landfills. When I look at TV times to warm up on relic TVs ... Its a deterrent to paying more than a worthwhile amount for the sellee any value.
I have a 36" Sony CRT and it's great, except for an overscan issue. I adjusted the image in the service menu and 'zoomed out' to make the image better fit the screen, but even then around 10 - 15% of the image is still missing as if it doesn't exist at all. Very strange.
It's both vertical and horizontal overscan, if that's even what the problem is. I wish I had your knowledge but I'll look into what you suggested it could be. Appreciate it, thanks.
Tim Oh, come on. I'm just a regular hobbyist who happens to get a few TV's to repair. If you have some background in electronics, it's worth to try to fix it yourself. Almost all TV's I came across overscan the image a bit, but if your's was fine and now it's not, smth must've gone bad. Sometimes such happens after transportation, did you move it or it just happened with time?
MrJohhhnnnyyy Unfortunately I don't have the skill or expertise to fix it myself unless it's a setting or two that can be adjusted in the service menu. I bought it second hand this year but I think the TV is from 2003 - 04. For transport I simply had it face down on a mattress in a trailer. I don't think it's uncommon for these TV's to have overscan and I've read in forums that Sony even set them this way to ensure no underscan when using different sources but that still doesn't explain why some of the image doesn't appear to exist at all even when underscanning. The sides and to a lesser degree, the top and bottom of the image is slightly bent and compressed like the edges of a slightly rolled up newspaper which is certainly a contributor but I don't think that can account for the amount of image missing, or maybe it can?
Tim So you're saying that the picture is distorted on sides? There's a problem which is nicknamed "barrel" when the picture (raster) is shrinked on ends but bulged at the middle. Since you're familiar with service menu, have a play with it - there'll be an option that will allow you to correct such distortion to some degree, that is when the internal components didn't drift too much. They were joking, it won't do the job, of course. Go on eBay buy some heatsink grease with metallic powder, it works really well. But be careful to not squish it onto current-carrying conductors (legs of the transistor, for example). It has metal powder and will cause trouble if you won't do it in a neat fashion.
Never heard of it, unfortunately. But I guess for 5 bucks you can give it a try :) Mostly such sets develop problems which are easy to fix (or cheap to fix, depends on who does the repair).
MrJohhhnnnyyy oh i am just now noticing that this video doesent contain a kendo crt (i came here because i googled exactly that) but thanks for the answer anyway :)
You can get them for free on on the side of the road on trash day. Especially after Christmas when people get new flat screens. Most of them will have RCA connectors on them. if not, you can buy an RCA Composite to RF converter on Ebay for $10.00 to $30.00
It's either a: fried horizontal deflection coil in the yoke or a bad connection somewhere (crappy connector, bad solder joint). Test the yoke for continuity with a multimeter, if it's OK - test cables, connectors, joints. It's an easy problem to fix unless you have a fried yoke.
I could hear and understand him fine. Based on accent i'm assuming english isn't his native language, still he sounded fluent. Just mentioning this to help the creator. Cheers.
Omg I never thought that I will fix my

It overscans horizontally or vertically? I've seen a few do vertical overscan "thanks to" dry electrolytic cap nearby vertical deflection IC.

A horizontal line is called a vertical collapse and is almost always a vertical ic chip. Recap almost never fixes this problem

what if my thermal paste runs out, what can i use for replacement?
Just keep some in stock, it is not expensive. There are some heatsink compounds with bizarre prices, but I avoid them. Cheap stuff works just fine.
Thanks for your reply MrJohhhnnnyyy! SOMEBODY JUST TOLD ME TO USE TOOTHPASTE, IS IT FINE?
