What an incredible run. This is one of my favorite gdq speedruns ever, not only because I adore FFX but because the runner and commentator are hilarious. They've got such a good energy, vibe, and chemistry. Definitely checking these guys out on twitch.
Never enjoyed a speedrun more than this. The commentary was just so.. human? They were just having fun, enjoying the game/speedrun while explaining whatever needs to be explained. It's great. I watched most of it live but I actually missed the end, which is actually just the funniest commentary I've seen on a speedrun in a long time. Great job guys!
It's so funny how Foxy keeps telling the announcer to read donations but then he's just SO excited to talk about his process that, almost everytime, he will interrupt after one donation LOL It makes it so much more exciting when the runner is obviously loving the game they are running!
Jesus. I’ve watch a LOT of GDQ but I rarely wanted longer segments in a speed run. These two make me want to watch this all over again. Phenomenal commentary and banter. Definitely following them individually after this!
I mean if you have to watch the cutscenes (older Speedruns) it can be beaten in like 9-11 hours. It's very helpful that a mod can cut these out.. :D but what a beautiful game it is.
Beating it in four is incredibly recent do to community work on mapping game seeds in order to completely manipulate RNG, a few years ago the world record was around 12 hours rofl
Got to watch this live and it was fantastic! I know they both apologised for constantly bantering but tbh it was great and I loved the vibe they gave off. Well done!
Holy moly I honestly thought no one could ever come close to Muttski and Tojju when it comes to natural chemistry, entertaining commentary and overall epicness. But these two guys are like almost pulling it off. Like almost 😉 I love this game, I love the cut scenes, but this mod is pretty awesome. Thanks so much to FoxyJira and Zic3 for this fantastic (sleep-deprived) run and the entertainment. Watched it live and well rested at 11 AM here in Europe. Also shout-outs to Gil Toss. It's kinda like you pay compensation money when you release your Aeons from their contract 😁
I actually think this laughter scene is both fairly well written and good voice acting. Without context it is to think it is juts a poor attempt at laughter but with the rest of the narration this for me one of the most memorable and powerful scene of the game. The moment where the relationship really start to shine between the 2 main characters That said I was already an adult (if still a young one) at the time. I always wandered if people that played this game as kid and found this scene ridiculous ever revisited the game as an adult and if they did: did that change their perception of it?
Yeah, the characters actually talk about forcing themselves to laugh until it becomes funny, ive never understood those that think its bad voice acting, i mean it James Arnold Taylor fgs.
@@dgoodwin1122 i feel like the only people that criticize it are people that never played the game or completely missed the point and not paying attention.
I lost my very first match. Then turned to the online forums (neoseeker?) to ask if it was just me who was bad. Everyone else claimed to have easily won every blitzball game, ever...
Awesome run! been watching this over the past few days, both runners are so entertaining and funny and it's great to watch a game like this get speedrun
Just barely watched this almost a year after it happened and I can't believe I missed it. I haven't heard commentary this good since the jak and daxter bonesaw run. Off to go rewatch that now.
Gotta throw another vote for Contest of Aeons as favorite song from the game (discussion at 3:34:41). The combination of earlier multiple boss themes and the Hymn of the Fayth is so well done. The buildup into the song’s climax is honestly one of my favorite moments in music, period.
Finally watched all of it. So glad to see this game and run in GDQ. This was my favorite FF game growing up. I still find my self humming the hymn of the fayth today.
This was my second Final Fantasy game and the first game I bought with my own money. So cool to see it at an SGDQ. Great run and so much nostalgia. Thank you runners!
FoxyJira, if you see this, it was great to watch you run this...even if I couldn't catch it live. I hope you had a good experience despite being sleep deprived XD And thanks Zic3 for being the wingman!
Brilliant run of one of my all time favorites...and it took me 2 hours to realize you're rocking a STL City sweater - turned it from a 10/10 to a 15/10!!
Kind of funny how he's talking about east coast people trying to sleep to a chill FFX run and here I am watching the video on the east falling asleep while watching for the forth night in a row. Only made it 1.5hrs in after 3 days lol
This makes for good covid isolation watching, well done to Foxy and Zic (and chocobo) for keeping the energy up at stupid-o-clock in the morning on so little sleep! Live and let live!
this upload after I just finished watching the VOD. Also my favourite FF of all time. Thanks for your commentary and go get some rest! u look so tired at about last hour!
Man, Ive been replaying this recently and that Mt Gagazet/Zanarkand cave trial suuucked haha! I love how you guys went off on the developers for the 3 colour circle puzzle thing xD I literally got it first try simply by matching them with the colours I felt fit? Nah, tbh I randomly selected the circles but just so happened to do Green = Rikku, Blue = Tidus and Red = Wakka
I love both versions of the soundtrack and listen to them frequently. The original will always be the og, but I really really really really really enjoy the arranged version. It's a beautiful touch on an already perfect soundtrack.
This run was a blast to watch, absolutely loved the life presented in the commentary for one of my favorite games of all time. Sucks you didn't get the No Encounters armor but great run nonetheless. Half tempted to try it myself, since I already love doing challenge runs (huge fan of playing with no Sphere Grid) and think I could pull it off
Yall are mean man, halfway into this run I downloaded FFX on PC.....I already own the switch version, ps3 and ps2 versions and beat the game many times..... that being said I love this game and play it over and over again, it was an awesome run and I hope to see more in the future as this event exposes the speedrunning community to a wider audience and brings new people into the community that can contribute massively to progressing these games forward into unknown territory
when killed or defeated aeons turn into pyreflies so tearing a piece of one to eat would cause that piece to desintegrate too. and since the topic of eating pyreflies is never brought up in the story I have to assume it can't be done. so no, you can not in fact eat aeons.
Actually, you’re correct! I don’t know whether it has something to do with the PC version or maybe the cutscene remover mod, but it doesn’t look like this at all in the OG or remastered. A bunch of effects are missing, actually. The water is supposed to be rough and choppy with waves kicking up and there’s supposed to be mist surrounding the fin. You can notice that the harpoon gun they shot that’s supposed to be holding the rope is also completely missing. This is just a guess on my part, but maybe those elements were pre-rendered and the mod unknowingly removed those, too.
X is my favorite FF behind only 6. I'm so glad it got remastered. The PS2 tried it's best, but it just wasn't powerful enough to show off what the devs were trying to do.
Runner introduction starts at 2:22
Run starts at 3:29

The sleep-deprived, delirious, fever-dream commentary, especially towards the end, was SO worth it.
What an incredible run. This is one of my favorite gdq speedruns ever, not only because I adore FFX but because the runner and commentator are hilarious. They've got such a good energy, vibe, and chemistry. Definitely checking these guys out on twitch.
Super agree, one of the greatest GDQ runs of all time.
Never enjoyed a speedrun more than this. The commentary was just so.. human? They were just having fun, enjoying the game/speedrun while explaining whatever needs to be explained. It's great. It makes it so much more exciting when the runner is obviously loving the game they are running!
Foxy was awesome, if we were all going to be up at 3AM I wouldn't have wanted it any other way
Jesus. I’ve watch a LOT of GDQ but I rarely wanted longer segments in a speed run. These two make me want to watch this all over again. Phenomenal commentary and banter. Definitely following them individually after this!
it's so awesome they were able to get this to GDQ main stage. This is probably my favorite game of all time, and it was awesome to see it run through.
lmao i put 150 hours into this game, wild that it can be beat in 4
tbf they mentioned that if you add in the cutscenes, it's like double the time
with the cutscene remover. without it the run would probably take another 4.
150 hours? i once put 150 hours just for blitzball.....
Incredible chemistry between these two, I laughed so much. This is one of my favourite GDQ runs I've seen, and one of my favourite games of all time!!
I legit love the concept of speedruns with support players to process data. It reminds me of Artemis Bridge Simulator a bit.
Got to watch this live and it was fantastic!
I know they both apologised for constantly bantering but tbh it was great and I loved the vibe they gave off.
Well done!

Agreed, playing through the remaster version now and it’s not a bad scene
Yeah, the characters actually talk about forcing themselves to laugh until it becomes funny, ive never understood those that think its bad voice acting, i mean it James Arnold Taylor fgs.
you know the fact that people still have to actually explain this scene after 20 years just shows how inattentive people playing this game are haha
@@dgoodwin1122 i feel like the only people that criticize it are people that never played the game or completely missed the point and not paying attention.
@@dgoodwin1122 is people who watch it without context
loved the commentary so much! cutscene remover was so cool, great job!!!
This run had such an energy, I love how Foxy and the crowd interacted. Great run, thank you very much
Bruh that blitzball commentary had me in stitches 🤣. Awesome run guys for one of my all time favorite video games thank you!
I lost my very first match. Then turned to the online forums (neoseeker?) to ask if it was just me who was bad. Everyone else claimed to have easily won every blitzball game, ever...
This run was excellent lol the co-op world record was hilarious
wanted to see this live, but i ended up falling asleep 🥲
Aren't we all
Awesome commentary, fun run!
Love this game and this is an amazing speedrun 🧡
This was real fun to watch. Kudos to both of you rocking this run with so little sleep!
The Tidus naming was just too good AHHAHAHAHA. Amazing speedrun!
Awesome run! been watching this over the past few days, both runners are so entertaining and funny and it's great to watch a game like this get speedrun

Otherworld is mine but Contest of Aeons is great.
Most entertaining run i've watched so far
SO glad to see my favorite game being run. Amazing commentary throughout, best run of the year!
What a great run! Thanks GDQ for having FFX and these two in the marathon!
Finally watched all of it. So glad to see this game and run in GDQ. This was my favorite FF game growing up. I still find my self humming the hymn of the fayth today.
For how early this was for them, awesome commentary - Made it even more enjoyable to watch. Awesome run!
Absolutely loved this run, the commentary is great
This was my second Final Fantasy game and the first game I bought with my own money.
I love how while watching on you tube. A Arby’s commercial played 😂
Brilliant run of one of my all time favorites...and it took me 2 hours to realize you're rocking a STL City sweater - turned it from a 10/10 to a 15/10!!
I've always loved watching the Final Fantasy speedruns here, just because they demolish a game in a fraction of the time I remember spending on it xD
The best power hour ever
Legendary. Thanks Foxy and Zic and GDQ
Sick run foxy and zic! I though you did really well to make it all night. The banter was brilliant and great to see my favourite ff at gdq!
So glad to see this return to an in-person format! I absolutely would love to attend one of these in the future.
Man I love this game...Man I love this run of this game too :D Keep up the great work GDQ!
God it's so bloody hilarious watching Yuna just walk up and smack Seymour with her staff.
The peacefulness of Mt.Giagazet while fighting Seemor Flux is hysterical
Whatever coffee the runners are having on this awesome stream, I'd like a cup of it for my Mondays XD this was awesome!
Kind of funny how he's talking about east coast people trying to sleep to a chill FFX run and here I am watching the video on the east falling asleep while watching for the forth night in a row. Only made it 1.5hrs in after 3 days lol
This has got to be my favorite GDQ vod ever
Darn, such a shame the No Encounters drop didn't work out.
Today I realized that Wakka's voice actor is the same as Jake The Dog and Bender
2:17:15 It's "Ajanouha ihtan!", which means "Everyone under!" in Al Bhed.
Also love the absolute giggles of late night no sleep. Happens all the time to me and my friends too!
Amazing run and display of the tech and resources the FFX speedrun community put together
The apitamy of class FoxyJira 👏👏👏 that speech at the end was fantastic 👏👏👏 you absolute legend!!!!
One of my favorite games. Thanks for the run!
That was fun to watch, but even more to hear you guys during the run!
amazing comentary for a great run. thanks guys :D
My favourite Final Fantasy! I love seeing this game cracked open by the culmination of the speedrunning community!
My favorite final fantasy of all time. Its the first one I really grinded and I always go back to it.
Excellent commentary, great run just some nice late night chaos
literally the best run / combination of runner and couch of the whole event! sadly i couldn't catch it live...
I know it’s a speedrun but I can’t stop thinking about that “Macarena Temple” cutscene 🤣.
im way too late for this but im glad i clicked on it the commentary was amazing lmao
Man, Ive been replaying this recently and that Mt Gagazet/Zanarkand cave trial suuucked haha! I love how you guys went off on the developers for the 3 colour circle puzzle thing xD
I literally got it first try simply by matching them with the colours I felt fit? Nah, tbh I randomly selected the circles but just so happened to do Green = Rikku, Blue = Tidus and Red = Wakka
Definitely tuning in to their radio show power hour.
A stellar run, very entertaining from start to finish.
I love both versions of the soundtrack and listen to them frequently. The original will always be the og, but I really really really really really enjoy the arranged version. It's a beautiful touch on an already perfect soundtrack.
original soundtrack so good even if you make it worse it's still amazing
I would listen to a podcast by these guys
This run was a blast to watch, absolutely loved the life presented in the commentary for one of my favorite games of all time. Sucks you didn't get the No Encounters armor but great run nonetheless. Half tempted to try it myself, since I already love doing challenge runs (huge fan of playing with no Sphere Grid) and think I could pull it off
Great run considering the 4 am start!
I'm over 18 hours into my first playthrough (have been grinding quite a bit early on), insane to me Foxy gets to the blitzball game in about an hour.
I like the arranged soundtrack D:
he ran this from 4 to 8 am?? incredible
The music in Zanarkand is not Wandering Flame, it's Someday the Dream Will End
I like how you call him Tidus instead of Tidus
I love this game my favorite FF title
Why would they slate a 4 hour est. run for 4AM? I felt bad for these guys.
The blitzball match against the Goers always gives me anxiety
My favorite of the Final Fantasy franchise.
Such a shame to miss rng for the ghost after all that prep but good run none the less
Great run! Love this game!
What was the missed manipulation they were trying to do at around 250 with the ghosts?
The atmosphere of this run is the most cozy of the event. I feel sorry for them but I'm glad it's a late night run~
1:07:00 why doesn’t he use dark attack against the garuda?
Big Bonesaw Energy
Great run!

so no, you can not in fact eat aeons.
I find it hilarious that both the runner/commentators and the aeons have a common goal; to finally sleep lol 😆
Literally still laughing at "gotta make the Goers goners"
now that line in 2:17:32 will never leave my mind ever again 😅
I want to believe that the Sin's fin in original FF X wasn't as bad, but I could be horribly wrong...
Actually, you’re correct! I don’t know whether it has something to do with the PC version or maybe the cutscene remover mod, but it doesn’t look like this at all in the OG or remastered.

Awesome run!
14:30 How I play fighting games
These guys were funny as hell, enjoyed the run.
X is my favorite FF behind only 6. I'm so glad it got remastered. The PS2 tried it's best, but it just wasn't powerful enough to show off what the devs were trying to do.
Can someone explain what they were doing at like 2:42:00 into the run?
I love this game so much
good run
Via Purifico playing in the battle against Isaaru 🔥🔥🔥 why didn’t Square do this
My favorite game of all time. Awesome to see if at gdq. And people explaining rng manipulation will never not confuse me. Great run.
