- In this video we show you how to build a polytunnel from Premier Polytunnels in the UK.
Our customers often ask: “Will I be able to build my own polytunnel?” The answer is yes, you will! Building a polytunnel in your garden or on your allotment really is a two person job, so invite a willing friend to join you and get stuck in. (Construction of larger, commercial polytunnels may take longer and require an extra pair of hands).
The polytunnel in this video includes all of the following:
0:00 - Foundation Tubes
2:45 - Anchor Plates
5:28 - Assembling Hoops
6:26 - Fitting the Ridge
8:25 - Corner Stabilisers
12:35 - Crop Bars
14:12 - Triple Ridge Kit
17:33 - Assembling Dummy Door / End Frame
21:22 - Hanging the Dummy Door / End Frame
23:11 - Assembling a Single Hinged Door
26:02 - Hanging a Single Hinged Door
29:14 - Anti Hot Spot Tape
30:56 - Forming a rebate for your door frame
31:30 - Covering a Polytunnel using the Trenching method
38:10 - Overhead Irrigation Kit
41:08 - Ground Cover Kit

youtub is brilliant for learning. i never took things seriously as my peers would always exaggerate eg if you do such and such your head will fall off, but when you see this in progress and have experience of learning things the hard way by trial and error you can really appreciate this tutorial..
Thanks for taking the time to make this video. I was able to completely rebuild my father-in-law’s polytunnel this week using all these techniques and it looks fantastic. 😁👍
I really enjoyed the video and used some tips for my own polytunnel!
Fab video Premier Polytunnels. These videos have been a great help when building my polytunnel. :-)

Great video, I wish I'd seen this 50 years ago!!
Very easy to follow this video, and I'd say this will be easy to build especially with the new building gadgets and materials that are available now days. So cool, bet I have one next year!!!
Thank you for interesing video
very useful video
Excellent.
Very useful.
Je to šikovně udělané video. Jen malá poznámka. Pokud dáváte spony na které napojujete tyčky, které pak šroubujete tak bych tu tyčku dala mezi dva konce spony a pak sešroubovala, ne pouze z jedné strany. Můj postřeh a zkušenost. Ať se vám daří a ať vám úroda roste.
that will keep me busy you get a gold star
Very good job, Sir

Excellent video. Clearly describes all actions at each key level. Its great to watch through prior to starting and keep referring to it for clarity. For people like me who have not attempted something like this before, this kind of "hand holding" is just whats needed. Best Ive seen yet.

Great video. I have one question. I am going to be putting one up on a rental property and only plan on being there for 1 or 2 years. Pounding the posts in the ground makes me nervous because I don't know how easy it will be to pull them out of the ground when I move to a more permanent location. Do you have any insight on how to easily remove them, or know of a less permanent way of constructing the tunnel while still keeping its integrity? Thanks
Hello,
Thank you for your enquiry and for your interest in our Premier Polytunnels.
Providing that the foundation tubes are not concreted in position/in the ground (as is the case with the widest polytunnels available and as some customers on very exposed sites sometimes choose to do), you can simply dig the foundations back up out of the ground and take them with you when you move.
When dismantling, moving and re-building polytunnels, some of our customer simply choose to remove the steel framework from ground level upwards and cut the foundations down to ground level, leaving them buried in the ground, and purchase new foundation tubes - however, if you can dig the foundations back out of the soil, this is the more cost effective option. :-)
Another option, to avoid having any foundations in the ground, is to build the polytunnel on timber railway sleepers. When constructing a polytunnel onto a hard standing base, such as sleepers, foundation tubes are replaced with Base Plates which bolt/screw to the sleepers and the steel polytunnel hoops slot onto these plates. When using Base Plates, the polytunnel cover would normally be fitted to Timber Base Rails at ground level (or fitted directly onto the timber sleepers), rather than being buried in the ground.
Base Plates can be seen on our website - www.premierpolytunnels.co.uk/shop/accessories/polytunnels-parts/base-plates/

Thanks for the insight, for some reason I was thinking it would be too hard to remove the foundation tubes but digging them up or saturating them with water should do the trick. Thanks again :)
Steve Larson also, simply pulling them out with a small chain n a Jack-all/Farm Jack. They pop out like a dream lol
Please how much does it cost?I lives in Italy and would like to have this
If you make the door frame One quarter inch larger than the door you won't have closing issues , simply nail a length one half by three inch lumber to the inside of the header and at ch side to stop the door.. use glue on weather stripping and a inexpensive spring to close the door . Air tight without door binding with high humidiy.
Id go 1/2 " wider, can always put foam weatherstrip.
Pena que não é em português.

Muy bueno el video
These guys are pro s..they work fast
ottimo video
Great build and so many washers saved under the nuts.
Could shorter length bolts be used ? 2 threads to be in safety ?
Hello,
Thank you for your comment.
Some parts could use shorter length bolts. The reason we use the bolts seen in the video is so that we don't have a big variation in the parts required, eg, different bolts required for if you have base rails on their own compared with if you have base rails, side rails and vent screens also.
Kind regards,
Premier Polytunnels
هذا عمل جيد جدآ💪👍👌
excellent job.. from Sri lanka
Wouldn't it work to make the crop bars slightly longer, so that their P clips also act as the storm strengtheners on the hoop joints?
Hello Gareth,
Thank you for your comment. We will pass this onto the design team for their consideration. :-)

Great constructive video under such duress conditions ,,,
only qualm i have is the door upright frame posts,,,,
i think should be concreted into position ,,
and water treated against rot if not 2year life span before rotting
big job to replace them
ok guys seeya'll Ed Beverly Hills California ,,US
Yeah and I would have used screws where they were nailing. Easier maintenance if u have to renew wooden parts.
Good

wow
The fixing of poly tunnel was really excellent ,what is the irrigation for , for what is the dummy door behing.
please clarify the following
area of the tent.
and number of supporting frames required. . what is approximate cost..
Thanks .
Wishing a better 21 and good wishes for Merry Christmas..

Hello,
This polytunnel is 8ft wide x 15ft long and consists of 4 hoops. Full details and prices can be found on our website: www.premierpolytunnels.co.uk/
The irrigation system allows gardeners to quickly and efficiently water their plants, without the need for individually watering plants with a watering can.
The 'dummy door' is the sealed unit at the rear of the polytunnel - it looks just like a door, however it is a sealed unit. The timber door/end frame adds support to the large flat area at the end of the polytunnel and allows the polythene cover to be fixed on the end of the tunnel. The dummy door includes a net ventilation panel for air flow.
Please do not hesitate to visit our website or contact the Sales Team in the office if you have any queries or questions.

What is the ground cover doing, what's it for?
Hello,
Thank you for your enquiry.
A ground cover sheet acts as a weed control sheet with less than 0.5% light transmission, while still allowing water to be easily dispersed through into the ground without collecting in puddles.
Kind regards,
Premier Polytunnels
Thanks for good job and excellent demonstration. Though, at 8:38- 9:02 so on-, edge pressed corner stabiliser should be inserted within P-clips, not to be put side of p-clip, then tightly screwed, that would make more grid structure, I think..:)
Hello,
Thank you for your comment. :-)
The P Clips are not suitable to have the pressed end steel tubes inserted into them as the clips will not then close tightly around the polytunnel hoops.
Inserting the pressed end steel tubes works fine on Q Clips which some polytunnels use, but not for P Clips. :-)
Love the tunnel! Awesome video. I just don't understand why you dug a ditch though.
Do you mean the trench for burying the polythene? The trenching method is the standard way (the “good old fashioned way”) of fitting the polythene cover.
Why Polythene on ground? I don't understand. If it for weeds, Wood chips work.

Could these be placed on hard standing? If so, what is the process for the bottom of the polythene? Thanks.
Hello,
Thank you for your enquiry.
Yes, our polytunnels can be constructed onto a hard standing base. Base Plates replace the foundation tubes at ground level - Base Plates bolt to the hard standing base and the polytunnel hoops simply slot into position. You can see Base Plates on our Foundations video - th-cam.com/video/XT_U6kwqiXc/w-d-xo.html
For fitting the polythene cover at ground level, you would need to use either Timber Base Rails or Aluminium Base Rails. These rails clamp onto the polytunnel hoops at ground level and the polythene cover is secured to the base rails with either battens and nails or with PVC infills. You can see the base rails on our video - th-cam.com/video/68SWQtC1MNU/w-d-xo.html
Kind regards,
