@Us Us Maybe, but Joao is acting much differently this season compared to last (except for some rude comments to Aesha). However, you're allowed to evaluate yourself, change, grow, and mature as a person. This is by no means definitive, but judging by his behavior/actions this season it appears Joao has made an effort to change for the better. This is coming from a Joao hater last season. Lastly, you mention Joao pretends to be Mr. sensitive in between acting out aggressively. You can be sensitive and aggressive. Many people are. These are not mutually exclusive qualities. I'm not excusing his behavior from last season or his poor moments from this season, just clarifying something that you potentially overlooked. That is all :)

If you've noticed, João's few rude comments that he's made this season come only when he is drinking too much. I absolutely hated him last season, too, but he has really redeemed himself. He was kind of like the Travis of last season, binge-drinking and acting like a prick. But seeing himself like that on TV - combined with having his heart broken by Brooke - have really caused him to take a good look at his life and make some changes, and I respect that. The morning after his last judgmental comment about Aesha's dancing, he reflected on it (to Colin, I think) and said, "Why do I do that? That's me done for drinking." Because he realizes he's going to lose the crew's respect if he does that. And I don't think we've seen him make another comment like that since that night, because he hasn't gotten overly drunk and let 'Jezabub' out. I think that's part of the reason Travis' drunken behaviour bothers him so much - because it reminds him a bit of himself when he gets smashed. That, and he can't stomach violence against women, for obvious reasons. I really respect João for the changes he's made in his life since last year. Most of the time, he's kind and respectful to everyone on the ship - as long as he feels like everyone else is pulling their weight. A few of them call him 'The Morality Police', but for the most part, I agree with him. I never, ever thought I'd actually find myself liking and respecting João this season, but I do.
Travis could change a few things about himself too, if he really wanted to, but he's too busy denying he has a problem. Until he recognizes that he does, that's not going to change. I really thought slapping Anastasia might be a wake-up call, but no, not only is he whitewashing that as "normal behavior," he feels like she's turned on HIM for calling him out on his drinking. It's a shame, because he'll ultimately find himself friendless if he keeps this up. Well, except for fellow partier/slackers like Jack...

@Josh Alfirenko absolutely. I personally know many people who are outstanding citizens when they are sober and wonderful warm-hearted... But they second they get drunk the demons come. The important thing is to tackle the issue and try to abstain from getting to that level of drunkenness if you can help it. And if you can't, seek help.

If it really hurt her then she would press legal charges for assault. Exaggerating horse-play into violent abuse is probably offensive to those who have actually been abused for real. The same type of delusional b.s. from women claiming being cat-called on the street is equal to being raped.

I think even Jack knows that's BS, but he's afraid to say anything to Travis's face because he knows Travis will take that as Jack 'turning on him,' too. I have been in Travis' position, and I lost a lot of friends simply because they called me out on my alcoholism - and those were the ones who cared to stick around. It's hard to watch him come up with so many rationalizations as to why everyone else is wrong about his drinking and his poor behaviour. I def wouldn’t appreciate being woken up by being slapped in the face. Even tho it wasn’t that hard. It was the principle of it. You don’t wake anyone up by slapping them across a face. Especially a woman. You can fool around with your guy friends like that but not a young woman you met 3 weeks ago. And once Joao explained his reaction, it makes a lot more sense but even putting that experience aside, I don’t think he over reacted.

If Joao slapped (love tapped) Aesha - it would not be ok with Jack (Mr. Respect)!

Wait what?? That’s how we show love?? It’s not culture it’s being a jackass. And the constant excuses and trying to explain his way out is baffling to me. It’s not funny. It’s not banter, it’s not cultural it’s 100% unacceptable. The co-stars making excuses for Travis’ behavior is frankly just as bad

He is trying to justify slapping her, it was still not ok! It is never ok to slap or hit someone like that!

Travis doesn't take responsibility for ANYTHING he does wrong. Ugh and to think I loved him after her defended homosexuality. Yuck.

And another question: what's up with Travis's "Little Dutch Boy/Oompaloompa" hairstyle?

Travis is obviously an alcoholic, and it’s disgusting how he is justifying his behavior. Victim blaming at its best him trashing Anastasia after she decided to tell him how that slap really made her feel. Jack and Aesha making excuses for his behavior is crap too. Man or woman- you don’t hit people. Period. It’s not hard to keep your hands to yourself.

He did hit a woman, end of so it’s wrong for jack to say he didn’t! Whether he was drunk or not, the bottom line is he did hit a woman as his hand imapacted with her face... how do people not recognise that is hitting 🤷🏽‍♀️

🙄🙄🙄 Travis talking shit on the guest (who def should’ve apologized)... and yet if Travis had spewed on the camera man you know he would NOT apologize and try to normalize it 🤣🙄🙄... and jack would’ve backed him 🙄🙄🙄
