That was the incredible wall of sound that Pentatonix is know for. Their version of Mad World is another great example.

Loved your reaction. Welcome to the heavenly Pentatonix wall of sound. It's such an emotional connection to the soul and its so beuatiful that it does leave you without words. I have subscribed and am looking forward to you reacting to Avi's solo work. He is fabulous. I've seen him in concert a couple of times. He's an amazing song writer. His songs speak to your heart and as a human being he is charismatic and relatable. It means so much to him to connect with others through his music. He's been through a lot, and he sings about that in his earlier music. The first concert of Avi's I attended, many people had personal stories to share with him about how he'd helped them get through tough times. He's in a very good place now and is on his own with his sister Esther managing him. When Avi was with PTX she was a manager for them as well. He's some new music coming out very soon and he'll be back on tour this year. He has a patreon and he has monthly live streams with members. 😊

You're so right. This message is so needed in all times. A couple other more subtle significant things about the cards that they passed to each other: 1) Kevin's parents are both immigrants, so he is a 1st generation American. 2) Scott has said in interviews that this is the first time he publicly acknowledged that he was gay. It was pretty apparent, especially from a lot of their Superfruit content, and he was out to friends and family, however he calls this the first time he was publicly open about it. He has also stated that it was later the same day after they shot this video that he met Mark, his now husband. All in all, a very memorable day for him!
One of the things that I appreciate so much about PTX is that they are the living embodiment of the message of this song. They are all so different from each other (Kevin is a very committed 7th Day Adventist, Matt is active in his church, Scott and Mitch are gay, Kirstin grew up Christian, they are a mix of races, they each have their own favorite types of music to listen to and to create as individuals, etc) and yet they have formed a family of choice as a band, they genuinely love and respect each other as artists and as people.

As a therapist, you will love analyzing Avi’s music. He sings about his struggles with depression and anxiety. Songs like “First Place I Go”, “Chains”, “Quarter Past Four “ and others.

This is my favorite version of this song! As for Avi's solo work -- yes, please. Avi's solo work helped me get through the worst time in my life. Brilliant lyrics and his amazing voice reached through to my heart and soul.

I agree! My favorite version I’ve heard for sure. I’ve recorded the first solo Avi reaction to “Change on the Rise” and I agree with your sentiment about his voice. I’m looking forward to more of Avi that delves a bit deeper into his mental health. Thank you for the support!

Loved the expression on your face during the wall of sound in the "live as one" . While on tour in Europe they were on a morning show. The host asked who could sing the highest and was expecting Kirsti or Mitch. They all look at each other and all pointed to Kevin

We like to say that #Pentatonix doesn't do covers, they do upgrades, and for the most part it's true. But how do you upgrade a song that's already perfect? Well, if you're Pentatonix you look for a way to make that song more itself. In the case of "Imagine" Pentatonix treats the song and the song's writer with the utmost respect, and engages in a dialogue.
John Lennon saw that things like religion and nationality divide us, so he suggested that we get rid of those things. But Pentatonix sees that it isn't possible to get rid of religions and nations, so they propose another solution. You see, the real problem is something much deeper than religion, or nationality, or even money. The real problem is the human tendency to reject people who are different. So Pentatonix looks for ways around that problem, and then they show us how a healthy community deals with differences.
First Pentatonix looks for and finds the things they share with each other, the ways they're alike. And in the process they also find the things that make them individuals. And because they've already found the things that draw them together they can not only accept their differences but celebrate them. Doing that, looking at differences clearly and with love, gives them greater insight. It makes them a stronger, wiser, more compassionate community, and they all benefit from their diversity. Instead of dividing them diversity draws them together, until they can look at everyone and see the one thing that we all share - we're all human. And this means that when they meet someone who is very different indeed, in ways that otherwise might seem bizarre or dangerous, they can still see that fundamental truth, that we're all human, and we're all in this together.
Unlike everyone in Pentatonix, I'm old enough to have heard John sing "Imagine" live. And that means I'm old enough to have the evening news from December 8th, 1980 seared on my memory: John Lennon, dead. Killed by an assassin who ambushed him when he was coming home after an evening out with his wife, Yoko. For those of us who remember that night, the grief and shock remain as strong now as they were 44 years ago.
John had only 40 years on this planet. We have no way to know what else he would have given us if he'd been able to live out his full life; all we know is what he *did* give us, his perfect anthem, "Imagine." I wish he'd been able to see this video. It would have made him so proud.

Thank you so much for sharing! A perspective that adds such important context to this song and to the added meaning in PTX’s performance!
Lennon’s tragic death also terribly ironic as his killer was actually a fan - truly fanatical, and in part was seeking fame for himself and to lift Lennon to martyrdom. Lennon needed no help being recognized as a legend, and as you said all this act of violence did was rob the world of what could have been.
Thank you for the continued support!

That bay be my favorite wall of sound moment from them, though it’s a technique they use in many arrangements. I can’t get enough of this wall of sound so I was glad you played it again. It’s sort of ironic to me that you got stuck remembering “American” during this time. I know you weren’t making a statement, but I’m hoping “American” gets more and more synonymous with the spirit of this song. I have never been able to watch this video and not get emotional.

In this case the message is example of what Ptx is, a mix group, and this case with Avi still n the group, a very diverse band, the cartels, and pass by their coincidences, and then they show their differences, but in the end it all ends up that we are all human, different genders, sexual preferences, races, religions, country, and know political views, there is so much intolerance in today world, more than ever, is incredible that Jhon Lennon message is probably more important than ever
