    Brian is a modern Dylan, Croce, Lightfoot, Taylor etc IMO. His lyrics and soul are a rare breed of songwriter. Love this man.

      In the song he's talking about thinking about someone else when you're with another person. As in you're with a love interest but you're still caught up on an old love interest. He clarifies during that line that he isn't referring to himself or a lover in that line. He's telling a story about someone else entirely. Hope that helps
