We’ve got a Supersonic like you. I would recommend tags for France Spain and Portugal Works really well and avoids long queues. Also - get Aircon built in. You’re in a big metal box and it gets very hot. This week in the UK the internal temp has been hitting 27-28 deg C and we were very glad of the Aircon. You will roast in Spain. Thanks for the tip about Brittany Ferries to St Malo being pet friendly.

Did a month at Camping La Torretta in March which I would reccomend, no problem with the size of your van & it is much closer to the action than Raco. There is a fantastic vet a 2 minute walk from the site who are great for a pet passport too, got mine there. Ask for the reception side if you can as it seems nicer. I stayed at Raco for 3 nights and didn't like it so much, also building work there as they are building a new supermarket so noisy during the day.

Well worth having cheaper if you take the route,

Hi both, great to hear about your planned trip you’ll love it we did a similar trip about 18 months ago with our pug Molly. A few pointers for to consider, Crit aire sticker a must apply on their website, go to Abbeywell vets in Folkestone for your AHC £99 valid for 4 months only (they’re all only valid for this length of time) travelling over via Le Shuttle is much cheaper, we traveled down the east side of Paris via Reims, Lyon, Avignon crossed into Spain just south of Perpignan, loads of sites took our 9mtr van no problem. We stopped at Villanova Park on the way down to Benidorm, Raco Camping is nice and a good base but more importantly they’re the only site in Benidorm that accept dogs so good choice 👍 best wishes to you both, hopefully catch up at next weeks show.

Hi guys, we were at Raco in July this year and last year, we travel Plymouth to Santander, the electric is metered and it cost us about 8 euros a day but that was with the aircon running all night as it’s very humid and whenever we were there in the daytime, it is tight but we have a kontiki tag axle and we had a choice of pitches to choose, there’s a vet 5 minutes walk, you can call directly to book they speak perfect English (the campsite that is) the Aldi next door should be open by the time you go but there is a supermarket 10 minutes walk on the way back from town, we love it there and there’s places we would steer clear of especially at night but in the day there’s lots of overlooked history in Benidorm, if we can help with anything else give us a shout 👍

    Hi Russ & Keeley
Rabies vaccine needs to be done at least 21 days before you leave the UK,the animal health certificate within 10 days before leaving. The AHC needs to be done every time you leave the UK,so if you can get a pet passport while in Spain then that will definitely be worth doing and dont forget you need to take Ted to the vets for worming on your return, The treatment must have been given no less than 24 hours and no more than 5 days (120 hours) before you arrive back in the UK,the vets have to do it to stamp your AHC or pet passport.

I would definitely get tol tags. It will save a lot of problems at the top booths. They're not always straight forward to get through. Plus the locals can get real mad at you if you take one second too long to get sorted.
Make sure that you do not have speed warnings visible on your satnav. French police have threatened to take satnav or vehicles if you're caught with them.
On the way back. Try not to stop within an hour of the port. Just in case of unwanted stowaways.
Michelin have a great route planner program, that will plot out a good route and give up to date tol costs.

Hi, I’m sure you have been inundated with advice, but this is our experience, we aren’t experts by any stretch of the imagination.
First of all Ted, we too are in Barnsley and our local vet quoted us an extortionate price, so we used AHC UK north, Andrew the vet is based in Leeds, he is fantastic. Very easy to arrange and around £99 for 1 dog, please bear in mind that if a vet isn’t experienced in filling out forms and gets it wrong you won’t be allowed on the ferry, I’m not scare mongering, it does happen. So use a vet that is experienced, Andrew does lots of them. Ted will need a rabies jab and that will need to be done at least 21 days prior to you leaving. The AHC is valid for 4 months in duration but only for 1 trip. You have 10 days from collecting the certificate to leave the UK, so this obviously needs to be factored in when you arrange collection. If you plan to travel regularly to Europe then I would say get a pet passport, but bear in mind that most vets in Spain will only give a 1 year rabies vaccination to begin with, I believe that boosters are then 3 yearly. A UK vet cannot enter details of a rabies booster in the pet passport as that invalidates it. So if it’s a 1 year rabies vaccination in Benidorm then you would need to travel back into the EU before it expires and get a booster, if you don’t do this then you are back in the position of getting another AHC. If you do get a pet passport then it remains valid while ever the rabies is kept up to date and there are spaces in it for worming to be documented. Ted will need worming before he returns to the UK, and the information needs to go on the AHC, once this is administered you have between 24 hours and 120 hours to leave the EU. Hope this helps, we are in Barnsley so if you need any more information I am happy to chat.
I think Bertie Bus used the site you are looking at in Benidorm, you could check them out. From experience I would say that pitches in Spain can be tight for bigger vans, ours is 8 metres and we have had to do some shuffling to get on and off pitches.
There is a great free aire in Denia, north of Benidorm which is good. No services but great for a few nights and lovely town to visit. Looking forward to seeing your trip next year.
