Very nice, thanks! Probably Mapping panel require total overhaul. I think I rebuild this to get it look like Ableton macros just like rs5k manager. Not possible to replicate 1-to-1 exactly, but improve linking style.

Yes! Should've mentioned that but honestly I couldn't think of a practical example of that, though I guess my delays and reverbs from the video could've been on sends :)
That's the answer I was looking for. Sometimes I need to lock for example attack and release times on compressors on different drums channels. There's can be many cases for this feature - linking HPFs on multi-mic recordings, linking multiband cross-fades etc.
Reaper forum is full of ppl requesting this feature devs have been ignoring this feature request since 2008 idk why. If they will give us just some kind of macro envelope and (Assign to macro) action, it will be more than enough and low effort feature addition.

@@IDDQDSound still i have a problem maybe you can help me to fix it: i want to link few fx parameters to 1 slot of the mpl so i can control them with just one knob, lets say the threshold of few limiters applied on different tracks, every limiter has a threshold value already set "-3, -6, -7 ecc ecc" but once i link them to the mpl soon it will changes the value! how can i link these threshold parameters without having to set the value again one by one opening the midi link dialog on every single fx, hope i have been clear.
@@dainocovaiodaino ahh yeah unfortunately through midi link or the mpl script it's a bit tough to set up. You can create an offset between them by moving the handles as you watch the values on each one, and you can them to move together but keep their relative value, but it may become more time consuming to set up than manually doing it. If you have a midi controller this could be possible by learning all three with a single knob, but set the value to relative instead of absolute, so moving the knob will just add or subtract from the value already there?
@@IDDQDSound yes manually it will take too long and make me feel that can be unpredictable along a big project with many tracks, i was already trying to set the parameters in the learn section from absolute to relative 1:1 but soon i click on relative and close the dialog when i open it back to check is set to absolute again, getting crazy lol.
Love all of your videos! I've been trying to display meter for muted tracks, in that way I don't have to look at the arrange view while mixing.. i can mute all the tracks and un-mute them one by one while mixing (knows which track has audio even in mute state) .. found this very helpful in studio one.. anyway we can get that in reaper?
Thanks buddy! Not sure I understand your question. You mean you want meters on muted tracks to still display their values? If you have a link to video of that feature in Studio One that could help too!
Great as always! Have you tried ReaLearn? I'm pretty sure you can set up the same thing but without any limitations. I don't really link stuff but my approach with ReaLearn is that I show parameters in TCP then use ReaLearn to control FX on the selected tracks via specific MIDI-CC channels or just with my mouse. It takes a lot of time to rig but works wonders across every project since I have ReaLearn on my monitor FX-track
Yeah Indeed ReaLearn is awesome and there's nothing it can't do, but like you said, for some stuff the set up time could be preventative, so I thought to show this nifty script, but yes a ReaLearn tutorial is incoming!
It should be noted that automation doesn't work too well with this script, there can be delays and weirdness in general, especially so if you use nested dependencies. So watch out for that. You can read about it in the forums, in the script's topic. But the script is really cool.
ahhh sad to hear that! I haven't really stress tested this but at least for live use it's been working fine. Hopefully REAPER will implement a similar structure as a native feature. (or really revamp param modulation/link)
@@IDDQDSound oh yeah I really hope they come through on this, that's what I miss the most- FL or Ableton type macros+better visual routing, since I really like to create complex "musical boxes" , but without a proper outside macro system I feel very limited (and forget controls for them because you can't remembere faders).
Hello~. Thank you for a great tutorial. I have one question though. When I try to control a js plugin called "JS: Volume/Pan Smoother v5", I can only have the Mapping Panel control between 0 to 12 db. Since I use the plugin to control the level of the track instead of the fader, I would like to somehow have the Mapping Panel control below 0 db. Is there a way to achieve that? Thank you once again for your entertaining and of course, educational videos!
@@IDDQDSound Hello~ Thank you for getting back to me. I believe there is some type of miscommunication going on between the volume plugin and the Mapping Tool. I prepared a video of this behavior. th-cam.com/video/fOjk84lrsD0/w-d-xo.html Maybe, I should be writing to MPL himself, but if you have any clue:) Thank you once again for your great channel!
Project-wide macros are a nice idea, and something missing from Ableton. But this kind of misses the beauty of Ableton's racks. In Ableton, you can have a rack containing multiple FX chains. FX parameters of devices in those chains can be assigned to macros. The Macros are per rack, not per project. Reaper needs: a) nested fx chains; with b) macros per fx chain; and c) means of choosing which chain, like either one chain per note in the case of drum racks, or chain selectors based on a parameter, or chain selectors based on pitch and velocity. Actually you could do so much more than ableton if you are prepared to have the complexity and learning curve of Reaper.
Little confused as to how to record the knob movements when using the panel. 1. Right clicked on knob on panel and armed the track envelope for the knob 2. Set envelope track to "touch (record fader movements to armed envelope) Annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd NOTHING Couldn't seem to get any movements to actually get recorded.
@@IDDQDSound Yeah, was doing it on track that held the master jsfx. Weird, as can see the knob moving on the envelope portion of linear track layout that's created after arming the track envelope but the actual envelope line itself remains flat through out playback and never actually registers/records any macro knob tweakings that are going on. Tried "Latch" recording mode of envelop as well and same result of no paramater changes actually being recorded into main sequencer/envelope draw line.

mpl is truly a saviour. If we had this and FX Containers there'd really be no reason to use other DAWs for modern music production.
