    That is a dedicated gentleman, producing with modern methods what would be some of the most commanding scale models anyone could imagine. Brilliant application of laser cutting technology to make historical vessels that approximate very closely the originals. Thanks for letting us glimpse what few can scarcely imagine.

Really hope you dont give your friends secrets away to airbrush efficientato or free for me, even if they contribute. Most of us paid bundles for what we know, including you my friend. If they want to learn it let them earn it like the rest must. Your friend deserves that respect.

      😀Andreas, please see my note above regarding weathering. It does pay to practice the art before using the techniques of weathering. Mr. Nikitin appears to be an artist at his craft, doesn't he? Loved the weathered effect on the stairs and commonly used areas. That small ship was very over-crowded when it commenced loading the "Pilgrims" sailing to the New World, as were her sister ships Nina and Pinta.
      To me it is funny that "running away" from England, they boarded at Portsmouth, England, and when they landed in the New World, gave that same name, Plymouth. One would think that they left that behind when they sailed. They for sure didn't have a QE II !

      @@kroumbatchvarov7671 I understand very well your point of view of archaeologist and that I respect. According to expert modelers, around 95% of the kits sold contain errors. Should we refrain from building kits for fun? In my opinion, there is a long apprenticeship before moving to scratch building with recognized plans (Jean Boudriot, Jean-Claude Lemineur, etc.). This is far from the case for modelers to take it to the next level. I always do two models at the same time, a scratch building and a kit, trying to bring it as accurately as possible. I love this San Bartolome that I am going to buy, and it will be a real pleasure to do as much research as possible.

    • @OlhaBatchvarov

      @@denisv4385 I'll pick up the instructions this week. The kit is now being tested - before it can be mass-produced. But I'll tell you what kind of technique it is - it's alcohol-based stains. Or you can use oil paints (from art stores) and dilute them with turpentine... I know about it but have not had to use on models.
      San Bartolome - 2 is also now being tested in a new version where all bugs have been fixed and now the author is completing its updated configuration

    The gentleman does an excellent job of weathering the Santa Maria. Recognized right away it was an early 18th century ship - they seem to all have extensive work high above the waterline. And a certain "crowded" deck system. And you do an excellent job of showing his work, and commenting on it.
    Model trains, especially in HO scale (1:87) use the same weathering techniques. In fact, if anyone who wishes to show their work in the condition it would be in following a few year's service, could go to a hobby store dealing in model trains, and browse the weathering paints, etc. Most of the weathering effect is achieved using an air brush. It is easy to change from painting a large area to "misting" on rust and dirt paints, faded brick, etc. Fun to do, BTW,

    great showing of this creative space, is this a common thing?- that is to cnc laser cut the model pieces?, from a cad drawing?, saw your work with craft knives, and sanders/ flex- shaft for your 1778 model, so there are many ways of doing it, but is this just a preference, to cut your kit out, rather than an "assembly only" kit, one you get from a model shop, like mechanical engine/ train models.

    • @SQSNSQ
      @SQSNSQ 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I do not think, it is common. Not many people can afford that for just a hobby. But, for what I know, many pro modelers produce and sell their own kits, aftermarket parts and stuff like that, which pays for such expansive equipment.

    • @OlhaBatchvarov
      @OlhaBatchvarov  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      In Ukraine, I know only 2 modelers who bought lasers. And it killed their own modeling - because they start doing it to order and they just don't have enough time for their own models. I think the same thing will happen to Pavel soon. He already has a queue for kits and this despite the fact that he is still in the final stages of test construction of all prototypes... I think his unusual kits and his own technology will soon become popular...

    • @OlhaBatchvarov
      @OlhaBatchvarov  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Sharfyk ето одна из причин, но и не только Ютюб любит англоязычные каналы, он тянет за собой поисковые системы Гугла. Русскоязычные каналы в десять раз дольше и сложнее раскручивать... Ютюб зарабатывает на рекламе, а самая дорогая реклама конечно англоязычная и продавать рекламные места под неё он будет в приоритетах на англоязычные каналы, хотя они и пишут в своих правилах что язык не имеет значения - но на практике ещё как имеет! Мне часто пишет много моделистов с вопросом как раскрутить канал. Они имеют шикарный по информации контент но не могут набрать годами даже 1000 подпищиков и просмотры не идут. Я в пример ставлю англоязычные Каналы где на модели без слёз не посмотришь, но там тонны просмотров и подпищиков в 10 раз больше... Так что если выбирать между популярным каналом или блогом для своих -выбор очевиден!

    What ship is this supposed to represent and from what period? I mean the first one. I do not know whether to laugh or to cry. If it is Iberian/Spanish ship, then the mast caps are wrong. Regardless what ship it is supposed to represent, the attachment of the shrouds is wrong, too. Archaeology demonstrates use of deadeyes; not thimbles. The stern quarter galleries do not match with the fighting tops in period or the rest of the rigging.
    I am sure the kit is well designed as a kit and easy to assemble, but the research, the knowledge behind it are clearly missing.
    I never understood why modelers insist on building the same few boring imagined ships of which we know absolutely nothing, when archaeology has given us so much knowledge about real ships, models of which would be unique, interesting, valuable. The only thing that all these "models" of the zillion Santa Marias, Pintas, Ninas, < Victorias, etc. are worth is the bonfire or decorative pieces in a pub. They certainly have no room in the collections of connoisseurs. Why people keep on building imagined galleons (actually naos) of Spanish ships, but no one has thought of building the one and only well-preserved, properly documented and published Basque whaling nao or galleon, found in Red Bay, Labrador? We know all there is to know of that ship - all the details even; not just the hull shape. The only model I have seen of that vessel is the research model built by the colleagues from Parks Canada and it was not a display model, but for research.

    • @OlhaBatchvarov
      @OlhaBatchvarov  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Every time I ask a shipmodeler, even with experience - no one has answered what he knows about this real galleon of San Juan. But everyone and even beginners know about Santa Maria, Pinta and Nina. Or rather, they choose the first model for construction from this trio...
      For nowadays they have a competitor - the Black Pearl (90% of people who build this ship do not even suspect the existence of the Columbus flotilla). And those enthusiasts who built one of these ships - are moving to more complex but with the same mass popularity: VICTORY, VASA, Catty Sark and USS Constitution... This is the end of the knowledge of the average person.
      It was a long speech to say that THIS IS JUST A COMMERCIAL WAY TO ATTRACT THE ATTENTION OF BUYERS!
      Who will buy a kit of San Juan, if there is no legend about it - while Columbus discovered America on Santa Maria!?

    • @genekloszewski5484
      @genekloszewski5484 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      He ( the maker ) is obviously streamlining his kits, ( using selective omission of historical/ & or scale parts ) to accomplish a marketable end product. Research may be lacking, on details,.. But this does not bother the commercial aspect.

      @@OlhaBatchvarov There is an interesting, real, story around San Juan. The story of this made-up ship, on the other hand, is non-existent. So I am not sure how much the "story" has anything to do with it. General knowledge of the ship's name, perhaps yes.
