      Just to let you know this is an older video as you mentioned and I no longer suggest soap unless the area has been contaminated. The compresses with saline are enough to heal the piercing.

      This is one the only facial piercing thst isn't prone to getting caught on things. It tends to be more isolated than say a nostril piercing.
      Most say the pain is not bad at all.

    The Friday of my eighteenth birthday (December 3rd) I got my septum pierced. It was between tongue and septum, I don’t like needles in my mouth so yeah. I hate needles with a passion, but I love piercings so I always have to remind myself that I’m not gonna regret this and that a few hours earlier o wanted this. And I’m right. I have both of my helix’s (got for 17th birthday) and now my septum. I love them. My mom hates my septum piercing but I’m eighteen. When I got my helix’s done she was shocked that I went through with it.
    The day before I got my septum pierced I binge watched videos like yours, and yours helped a lot!
    I’m a bit bad though, I don’t measure and just eyeball it when it comes to sea salt lol. It’s worked out fine so far. I’ve also never used anti bacterial soap only sea saltwater. I might try that for my next piercing though.

      Glad that the videos helped and congratulations on your piercing. I no longer suggest soap unless the area has been contaminated. Also using a sterile saline spray like neilmed wound wash or piercing wah spray is a lot more convenient.
      Thank you for sharing your experience and watching.

    I tried to get my septum pierced 2 days ago and it was an epic fail. The piercer did not know what he was doing. Long story short he put two holes in my septum (one too high and one too low) and I left the shop with no jewelry. I have been sea salt soaking twice a day and the holes seem to be healing fine. He did not tell me how to clean it since he was freaking out and he had other people waiting. Such a traumatic experience. 😖

    • @BodyPiercingTattooing
      @BodyPiercingTattooing  4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      OK, people make mistakes but I have to say, they should have stayed they did, apologize profusely, and did for free. Then taken the time, regardless of how many people were waiting on them, to clearly explain how to take care of the piercing.
      All piercers have off days or Piercings that don't go as planned but they used be accountable for their mistake and bend over backwards to make it right.
      Now with that all said, I don't think there is a piercer out there that doesn't struggle with septum piercings from time to time. They are just that piercing that varies from simple and easy to what the hell is with this person's anatomy.

    • @BodyPiercingTattooing
      @BodyPiercingTattooing  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I had my septum pierced 8 days ago and it's been healing very well. It didn't hurt very much and I've been doing one soak a day and Q-tip cleaning at night. My question is though, is it really that big of deal to move it around? I'm not messing with it all day long but every now and then I flip it up and sometimes it will turn to one side and I feel that there's gunk so I clean it on both sides. I just am wondering what can happen if I turn and mess with it too much, because I really don't feel any pain when I do it unless there is gunk on the piercing still and I try to turn it back to center without cleaning. If I bump my nose on accident it hurts but it only felt a bit swollen the first 2 days and now I can pinch my nostrils and it doesn't hurt. Can I still be doing damage to my septum by messing with it even though it doesn't hurt to do it?

    • @BodyPiercingTattooing
      @BodyPiercingTattooing  4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      First off, I don't suggest using qtips. It's better to use a sterile gauze sponge or a clean folded up paper towel.
      There is no reason to move the jewelry at all. In fact, moving the jewelry increases the risk to issues. Even flipping it up should be limited. If you have to have it up for work, flip it up at the beginning of the work week and leave it up till the end of the week.

    Great video, mate! I'm about to have my septum done (by a great, well known piercer!) and am looking forward to it. Is there any reason that I can't have a full loop or like a click-in loop right off the bat? I'm not a big fan of the "bull" style piercings that can be flipped up. I just want to do like a 18g or 16g titanium or gold hoop most likely. I've experimented with "fake" piercings and very much prefer the look of a fairly small complete hoop.

    I got my septum pierced yesterday and my piercer recommended saline wound spray to clean my septum and NOT to use Q Tips. By biggest issue right now is trying to find a way to clean my bloody crust without needing to use a Q tips from the risk of the fibers getting into the wound.

    Hey, I really appreciate this! I just had mine done two days ago. My piercer told me to only use Dial antibacterial soap. To wash my hands then apply some fresh Dial soap to the piercing and work the soap from one end of the piercing to the other. I should move the ring back and forth with the soap and then rinse it out. She said to do this four times a day. I don't see any other advice out there really matching this. Has some new information come out backing this up? I really don't want to mess up my piercing.

    • @BodyPiercingTattooing
      @BodyPiercingTattooing  5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Well 20 or so years ago, I would have told you to use dial in much the same way. However even then I wouldnt have suggest only doing it twice daily.
      That said saline twice daily and cleaning with a mild antimicrobial soap once daily is more than enough to heal the piercing and avoid infection.

    I'm 6 weeks into healing a large septum piercing (5mm). About 4 days ago it started hurting as new again. My piercer replaced the old jewelry (threaded tunnel) to a new one (plug held in with o rings), which stopped the pain, but due to the shape it's hard to get to the top of the piercing to clean it. Currently I use saline nasal spray 2 or 3 times per day. Is this enough or do you have additional tips?
    The piercer says it looks fine by the way. He did however recommend me to get a nose hair trimmer so hairs don't get stuck in or on the jewelry.

I placed it back despite the pain once I get home (after washing hands and cleaning the bull ring) After few days, I notice bump is growing inside and now it has grown bigger it looks disgusting and noticeable that I have to wear a mask all the time out of embarrassment. I got my septum pierced 2 weeks ago. For the first week my nose was sore to the touch but now I feel no pain what so ever. What is starting to worry me is that as of recently, when I clean it I see yellow like pus coming from it. I'm starting to think it's an infection. I clean it twice a day. In the mornings I do a sea salt soak then at nights I clean it with colloidal silver which kills bad bacteria. Is there something I'm doing wrong?

    • @BodyPiercingTattooing
      @BodyPiercingTattooing  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not sure who told you to use colloidal silver but it maybe too harsh for the piercing and/or you are having a reaction. Especially when you you say you see the pus after you use it.
      I'm going to stop using it, see your piercer or a medical professional. If is infected you may need medication to fight off the infection.

    Hi i have a quick question. I got my septum pierced on Saturday (3 August) ive been soaking it with the salt solution. I see it gets some pus around the jewelry. The swelling has come down a bit and its not painful to the touch. Should i just continue to do the salt water rinses or should i look into something else ?

    • @BodyPiercingTattooing
      @BodyPiercingTattooing  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      This sounds like a normal reaction to a fresh piercing. Redness, discoloration, heat, swelling, tenderness to the touch, slight bleeding and discharge are all normal reactions to the trauma of the piercing and the body beginning the repair process. Now if it continues, gets worse or there is a rash in the area, that could be an allergic reaction to jewelry or other issue and should be taken care of asap.
      At this point, I wouldn't really be concerned, continue with the soaks, rinse the area afterwards and give it time. As always when you are worried or in doubt, see your piercer.

    Great advice and guide lines! My septum is my favorite that I have (outta 6 facial piercings). But .. My new job requires me to take it out or hide it and since I have one of those Captive Bead pieces of jewelry and it's extremely hard to remove and impossible to flip up into my nose .. I've had it for about two years now and haven't removed it for more than a few minutes at a time .. Any idea (I know everyone is different) how long it usually takes to heal? I don't want it to heal, like I said, it's my favorite .. Also, I plan on getting a Horse Shoe style piece of jewelry. Got any favorite sites you would recommend? Also, it's an 8G size.

    • @BodyPiercingTattooing
      @BodyPiercingTattooing  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Your best bet would be a circular barbell that has been widened slightly to allow you to flip it up. Another option would be a septum retainer that you wear during the work week. 8g is fairly thick and not a common size to pierce a septum at, unless you have stretched the piercing. You may want to check with your piercer before buying jewelry. As far as the piercing closing, it varies from person to person depending on the thickness of the piercing, the age of the piercing and how healthy you are. In some cases, Septum piercings can stay open for a while though. Understand the best option is always leave something in it. Lastly, I list the 4 sites I suggest to order jewelry online here axiompiercing.com/buying-jewelry-online

    Hey ! So I’m currently on week 4 of my healing process for my septum and I’m not sure if I’m paranoid or what, but I feel like it has a smell. Is that normal? I use dial gold soap 2x daily & h2o piercing spray 3x daily. Am I wrong to worry ?

    • @BodyPiercingTattooing
      @BodyPiercingTattooing  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, it is common for there to be an odor. That will go away in time. I don't suggest using Dial gold soap unless the piercing has been contaminated. I recommend using a sterile saline solution such as NeilMed twice a day. Also, avoid using qtips to clean the piercing.

    • @BodyPiercingTattooing
      @BodyPiercingTattooing  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is an older video and I no longer suggest soap unless the area has been contaminated. I only suggest using sterile saline spray like neilmed piercing aftercare or wound wash spray. With the mist style you just spray it onto the piercing on each side. Let it stay in contact for 5-10 minutes and then wipe the area with a clean paper towel. Do this twice daily.
      It is not an issue to heal the piercing flipped up. It is best to limit flipping it up and down.

    Freaking out a lil bit I been having my Septum piercing for about 3 to 4 years I recently decided to start stretching it. I got the next size up from my previous size. I recently did the switch on the 27th and today marks the 5th day. I been properly cleaning it doing the nose dip into saline solution and today I switched to making my own with distilled water and non iodized sea salt I understand there's always mild discomfort and redness and swelling but this time it hurts way more. So I did the dip but I decided I wanted to take it off to downsize again thinking it was possible I did like a blowout but when I took it off pus came out relieving the pressure but I freaked out so I cleaned it properly and put it back on at this point. I googled and looked for videos but unsure on how to go about this.

    • @BodyPiercingTattooing
      @BodyPiercingTattooing  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It sounds like you may have damaged the piercing. It's hard to say without seeing the piercing first hand. You best bet is to downsize and treat it like it's a healing piercing until it gets better. If it doesn't improve see your piercer.
      A quick hint, next time see your piercer and have them use a taper pin or get one yourself. Lube it up well with a water based lubricant and insert it. If there is any discomfort or you need to apply any force, it isn't ready to stretch.

    hello, I just got a septum and cartilage helix yesterday. would it be okay to flip the septum today and also can I wash it with the soap with q-tips or should I use my hands?? Also should I move the cartilage or leave it be for faster healing ??

    • @BodyPiercingTattooing
      @BodyPiercingTattooing  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You always want to limit the amount of movement while healing a piercing. With septum I suggest flipping it up at the beginning of the work week and flipping it down at the end of the week.
      A soak or compress with neilmed sterile saline wound wash spray is enough. There is no reason to use soap and never use qtips.
      Leave the other piercing alone.

Sometimes I get this stinging feeling when I move my nose but I think it happens when my nose is dry. This is also my first nose pericing. I was told do spray it with saline solution and just leave it alone. Is there anything that I can do to help make sure my pericing is healing properly, help keep my pericing from being dry and stinging, and helping it heal quickly.

    • @BodyPiercingTattooing

      Do not move the piercing. Just submerge the piercing and the tip of your nose into a cup. If you can't handle it, then a great option would be a saline spray like nealmed. Spray it onto each side and then rinse under running water.

      My parents always said, "the only stupid question is the one you don't ask." I repeated it over to my son and my clients. Piercer and Client share the same goal, a great piercing that heals with the least amount of issues. I would rather spend 5 minutes answer the same 20 questions 20 million times than deal with the frustration of a piercing that has issues. If your piercer doesn't get that and understand it's importance, they are in the wrong business.

If the pain continues or gets worse, contact your piercer and seek medical advice.

      The most update methods of caring for a piercing is using a sterile saline spray like neilmed piercing aftercare or wound wash spray twice daily. Do not rotate the jewelry at all. Just spray the are, let it stay in contact for a few minutes and rinse under running water or wipe clean with sterile gauge sponge or clean paper towel.

      First off your piercer should always provide writer aftercare instructions and go over those instructions with you.
      I'm not a fan of H2Ocean and find their packaging and marketing is often misleading. If you would like to know some of my thoughts on the product here's a blog that covers it all in detail - axiompiercing.com/h2ocean-piercing-aftercare-product-guide
      You would use it in the same way that you would a soak or compress. Spray it directly on the piercing area or on to a folded up new clean paper towel or sterile gauze sponge and then apply it to the area for 10 minutes. Then rinse under running water. Twice daily. Additionally, I suggest cleaning the area with an anti-microbial or germicidal soap like Provon at least once a day and rinse under running water.

      There no reason or benefit to moving the jewelery. It's hard to say what is going on but it is normal for the piercing to be tender to the touch for 3 to 5 days. This is a reaction to the trauma caused by the piercing.

      It depends how far you are into the healing. Tenderness to the touch is normal but if there is pain without contact and it more than a week in, you may have an issue.

    I got my septum pierced with a 14g after a couple weeks I changed the jewelry to a 16g bc it was more comfortable idk if it’s bc of the jewelry or healing process or if I changed it too soon but it’s painfull and has a white ring around the piercing no bumps or anything just a white ring should I be worried

    • @BodyPiercingTattooing

      Changing the jewelry more than likely caused trauma to the piercing and possibly re-started the healing. Was the new jewelry sterile? Did you avoid contaminating the jewelry and the piercing?

      The swelling can make the piercing seem crooked. I would give it some time. You can apply pressure in the finial weeks of healing it it can straighten them out. However it really depends on if it is in the sweet spot and how crooked it is.

    Hi! I cant tell if my septum is infected or healing. I got it done 9 days ago and it swelled up for 5 days went down and sweller back up just today. Also, there is a little bit of blood. It bled the first two days but stopped till yesterday. And there are crusties which I understand that those are normal. Also there’s a white/ light yellow liquid that comes out when I clean it with a q-tip it’s extremely red around where the hole is. So what do you think?

    • @BodyPiercingTattooing
      @BodyPiercingTattooing  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Septum piercings can swell off and on for 1-7 days in some cases. They can also bleed slightly. This is especially true if the jewelry is moved, flipped or there is trauma to the piercing, like sleeping on your nose or bumping the area.
      With prolonged bleeding it has been my experience that those that notice longer periods of bleeding often pick at or wash off the blood. You need to just leave it alone and let it do what it needs to do. Bleeding is not a sign of infection. It could also mean that you have a blood clotting disorder like anemia or Hemophilia or it could be that the piercing just nicked a blood vessel. You should only be concerned if the bleeding is heavy or pumps or pulses.
      Another issue could be that you are have an allergic reaction to the jewelry. Usually the inflammation will spread beyond the piercing area and maybe a rash in the area.
      The piercing will discharge throughout the healing. That is normal. The liquid you are seeing is often plasma that is forming around the wound to help fight off infection.
      At this point, I would suggest leaving it alone, isolate the piercing and do not move the jewelry. Also stop using q-tips, not only are they more than likely covered in contaminates but the little cotton fibers tend to collect on the jewelry and piercing entrance. Cleaning the area with saline and giving it time, is your best option. May I ask what you are doing for aftercare?
      Lastly, your best bet is always to visit your piercer and have them take a look at the piercing. It is often impossible to know what is going on without seeing it first hand. I highly suggest that if it seems to get worse or doesn't start settling down, not to wait, see your piercer asap.

      Body Piercing & Tattooing i do sea salt soaks twice a day. I use the q tips only to remove the “crusties” off my jewelry and the hole. The jewelry I have is the only type available where i live. The piercer lives extremely far away. I never touch it except while im cleaning it.

    • @BodyPiercingTattooing

      The best option is using a sterile saline spray like neilmed wound wash spray. The issue with natural sea salts is that they can contain microorganisms. Save the pink salt for cooking and use either the spray or a white sea salt.

      First off this video is older and I no longer suggest using soap. In fact I've switched completely to suggesting using sterile saline spray like neilmed piercing aftercare or wound wash spray.
      A little bit of bleeding off and on for the first couple of days is no uncommon. After that it's usually a sign of trauma. So, be careful, isolated the piercing and reduce jewelry movement.

    I just got mine done about a day and a half ago and i have really small jewelry (circular barbell). So far i clean it three times a day with warm water and sea salt. And with contact lens solution (saline) when i bump it accidentally. However, i have to keep it flipped up because my parents don’t know i have it done and will probably rip my head off if they see it. Even when its flipped in they can still kind of see it. What can i do? Also, im traveling in a month and im worried about it setting off the metal detector. Will it be healed enough that i can switch out the jewelry into a retainer? Also, i can move my jewelry without discomfort but i only move it while im cleaning it so itll be deep cleaned. Will that extend the healing period or? I apologize for all my questions but I couldn’t find a single video to help. Thank you!

    • @BodyPiercingTattooing
      @BodyPiercingTattooing  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      First off do not use contact solutions, it is not the same as saline solution and has a number of additives that are harmful for the piercing.
      Soaks twice daily is more than enough. Over doing it will cause issues.
      It is best to leave the jewelry either up or down. Handling and moving piercings during the healing can lead to infection or other issues. I usually suggest that if you have a job, flip the jewelry up at the beginning of the week and leave it up until the end of your work week.
      The piercing may have been done too low and not in the "sweet spot". Or the shape of your nose is turned up allowing people to see up your nose.
      High quality implant grade jewelry will not be detected by a metal detector. The are calibrated to detect high the high carbon metals used in weapons. I have traveled with a great deal of jewelry in and have never set off a metal detector.
      You should change the jewelry until the piercing has finished the first stage of heal. Roughly 2 to 3 months on average. Changing jewelry can cause an infection, loss of the piercing or other issues. The jewelry should only be changed if the jewelry is causing issues.
      Lastly, I require parental consent as all ethical piercers do to pierce minors. A person that is willing to pierce a minor without the consent of their legal guardian often not someone you want trust your health and safety to.

      I'm guessing that you live in a state like Iowa, where I'm located, where piercing is not regulated but Tattooing is. So, it is completely at the discretion of the piercer or business owner. The problem is that in the eyes of society, you are not considered an adult and are not accountable for your actions legally. Meaning you can't legally consent to a piercing any more than you could enter a legally binding contract. There is also a whole question of whether it is ethical for a piercer to pierce a child without the parent's consent. Though the piercing can be done safely and correctly, there are risks to the client's health. Thus it is a risky activity and if you were getting a medical procedure which a piercing to a degree is, in most cases, an ethical medical professional would require consent. The same goes for piercers.
      As far as the balls coming unscrewed, limit the movement of the jewelry and check the tightness of the balls regularly. Latex gloves make it easier to get them in tight. Also, for the balls to come unscrewed, they need to rub against something. In this case the inside of your nose. If you are flipping it up and down, it is loosening the balls each time you do it.

      @@BodyPiercingTattooing i actually live in the middle east so, no where near the states hahaha all piercing procedures here are actually done by doctors, otherwise its illegal. its regulated in an odd way. nose and ear piercings can be done by any person at the age of sixteen or above without consent. however, navel - surface - or any facial piercing other than the nose has to be 18+.
