      @@branleeharris the pre-order trade-ins are tempting, they're offering me $800 for my Fold3 which would buy-out the lease from tmobile and put me about $5 cheaper monthly on the finance charge for the device. tmobile offered $300 for the device but still wants their $800 upgrading through them. Pixel fold looks pretty good, but it's their first foldable and i'm worried there may be issues so if I go for it i'll have to get the coverage.

      Yup. End of summer it'll be below $1,500 and carriers always have deals ... Seems to good to be true, but every 2 years I trade in my phone (usually a Pixel or iPhone) and pay next to nothing ... Verizon gave me $800 last year for a 2 year old iphone (with scratches). Last time I paid full retail for a phone was the Nexus 4.

    I bet that app bar is the pixel "suggestion bar" thing that's on my pixel 6. It's a cool concept that I'm not a huge fan of and I can see others feeling the same. Essentially it's a smart bar for a combo of your common apps, recent apps and ones that are used together often. However it means it's contents is always changing by design which means there's no muscle memory to train for the apps in it. You just have to see if the one you want did pop up (and where on the bar) and go to it

    I really like the design of the Pixel Fold, and this is coming from a Fold 4 user (also had Fold 3). The shorter but wider front screen seems way more useful than the tall skinny one on the Fold 4, which to be clear is what I use most of the time. The big issue with the tall aspect ratio is that pages frequently get cut off on websites, so I have been wanting Samsung to widen the front display some more. I really like OneUI 5, so if the Pixel Fold turns out to be really good after people get their hands on it, I might switch.

That's obviously the way they'd be able to offset the bit smaller battery with more screen area. Still, even with mid battery life, I would be interested anyway. personally I'm going to give this a pass, first to see if Google can actually leverage this to get more 3rd party app developers to better optimize their apps for android tablets and also to see how this pans out, big things being the battery and hinge mechanism, but who knows maybe when the Pixel Fold 2 (or whatever they end up calling it) comes out I'll be looking to pick one up

    I like Google's approach here. They studied market and other manufacturers like Samsung for years, then fine tune everything and listen what's galaxy fold users are saying and make the product. I hope this will be a perfect product from its 2nd iteration.

    I think you are right about the price overshadowing the whole thing. It gave me pause, but only because it feels like price has been a pretty big motivating factor to get people into the pixel world. This is truly a product for fans of the Pixel software experience, but the price is too steep for me, even with a free a pixel watch. I am having a hard time justifying taking a dive into this foldable.

      @distantignition probably will depend on what trade in offers google gives. Samsungs has been very aggressive with the trade-ins, and i wouldn't have gotten a fold 3 if i hadn't gotten $1000 trade-in value for a s10e on its last leg that i got for extremely cheap.

    • @ibendover4817
      @ibendover4817 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It's a good first step. Major manufacturers entering the folding market give samsung a reason to release better updates to their own phones. The upcoming samsung fold 5 is underwhelming. The only notable update is the size and hinge mechanism. No improvements to battery or other major features. They had no reason to innovate because they had no serious competition .

    • @alphaspartan
      @alphaspartan ปีที่แล้ว

      @@joshuaford4460 you can check trade in values already. They're a huge slap in the face to anyone who currently has a Pixel phone. They will give $900 for a fold 4 but only $200 for a Pixel 6 Pro. This phone is a downgrade from a fold 4 imo. I thought pixel's whole deal was offering similar performance as Samsung with software wizardry and lesser hardware at a lower price. This ain't it. Their watch is def not worth 300 either so anyone thinking they'll sell the watch to pay for part of the phone is delusional. At least Samsung watches are actual competition for Apple's.

    i just realized something about the folding phone architecture. this type of design allows for binocular cameras. this would probably require a "Depth Perception Mode" in the camera app. the photos and videos from this would be absolutely insane!!
    the "Depth Perception Mode" would use the external cameras. the external selfie camera and one of the main 3 external cameras on the camera bump. probably the actual Main Camera. and this would also probably require the phone use its AI to work properly.

    • @RaiOkami
      @RaiOkami ปีที่แล้ว

      They could ditch the inner selfie camera to save some cost and plug that there too. I doubt they could invest a module that matches the main camera but that seems like a good idea to investigate.
