The single player can be and still is about that (though I think it’s always been horribly executed), but there was never any broader point to the multiplayer. The multiplayer is just a goofy excuse to shoot people, and if they happen to have goofy skins for a part of the game that’s inherently goofy, then who cares? These issues are skin deep, when cod’s reall issues are deeper than just the inclusion of goofy cosmetics.
Well there’s only so many times you can make the same “boots on ground, semi realistic shooter” every single year before you need mix things up. You’re focusing on skin deep attributes when the real issues are deeper than some skins.
The skins don't bother me. I understand that there are actual mil sim games. But call of duty is not at all one. Now if they did this in Arma, ready or not, etc... then I'd be thrown off.
