For the last few years i had fake piece of baltic amber sitting in my box. Ive got it as a gift and was notified that its not the baltic amber even though it looks like it. It is a real resin - columbia copal that was heated in the oven to get consistency and colors more similar to that of the baltic amber. And im not gonna lie - after cutting it looks very convincing!

What a beautiful baked potato!
I have to agree, i do like how it looks:D
@@Amberscape absolutely beautiful indeed. And after all it’s copal, so it’s not that far from amber:) Just not Baltic anyway
@Tristanlj-555 yes ,correct:)
Hi, thank for your videos! Your channel teach me how cutting and polishing amber🤝
Copal look so freaking beautiful❤
I know why people called its fake, but it's unique art of mother nature too😔
If i would found speciment like this one, probably I would be very happy for a many years)
Its fake baltic amber, not fake heated columbian copal😁, i love columbian copal i own several pieces with cool inclusions in not enhanced state:)
Wow..interesting video. Great info. I had no idea, nor could I ever tell the difference before. Very cool. Thanks for posting. Still a great looking polished copal piece. Stay safe!
Yup its great! I like how it turned out😁
Very hard to the inexperienced eye Jarek ,probably would have fooled me .Still a lovely piece 👍
Yuup, it probably would have fooled me too if i wouldnt cut it personally, only when cutting i feel how different it is from baltic amber😁
In interesting piece Jarek! Its a shame that someone did that to a nice piece of copal. Would it have been clear before being heat treated? You would've been able to see the inclusions then.. 😢
Yes it would have been clear with who knows what kind of inclusions🫠
It could have just been caught up in a forest fire or something. Just because it was heated at some point doesn't mean anyone was trying to scam people.
Literally tons of columbian copal is being faked and is on the market to sell as baltic amber;), this piece ive got as a gift just to see how convincing it is
Is it still natural. Looks authentic.
Looks authentic yes😁, but its literally enhanced columbian copal :)
do you consider selling it? i would be interested, i love it
I might, but no clue how to figure out the price🫠😁
I would have been fooled by this, it is still a lovely piece, What is the worth as it now is?
It is worth something for sure, but i havent dealt with this material on the market to know the prices:)
So does Copal come from pine sap also ? Maybe you said and I missed it ? Anyway great video !
Looks i havent clarified this part🫣, and yes! Columbia copal is also tree resin, just from columba and ranging up to 100k years old, while baltic amber is 36-50milion years old, columbian copal is called copal because it didnt fossilise long enough to be considered amber, but its real deal:)
clue #1 it's too freaking big
O jeigu permatomą baltišką gintarą palaikius aukštoje temperatūroje, tuomet baltiškas gintaras irgi virsta matiniu?
Taip:)
tons of people are trying to sell copal beads as old baltic amber, for thousands of dollars per bead. Not going to happen. Some of these beads look like plastic or bakelite.
Yuup im aware:), this one feels like real deal though! Definetily would fool some people😁
2:21 If it dos not float in salt water, it's not amber.
