Honestly this is such a great story. Its epicness, especially considering its real world connotations, is so amazing. It doesnt seem real. Gerber is the fucking man.
So basically that Destroyer Duck/Savage Dragon comic not only stole Howard the Duck in continuity, it also revealed in continuity that Destroyer Duck was Specimen Q. I love this comic I've never read even more because it basically is Gerber going "Fuck you, I get what I want!" and since no one noticed or cared, for all intents and purposes it is canon. Specimen Q is Destroyer Duck who then saved Howard from Marvel. The metaness of the whole situation, if I am using the term correctly, is hilarious and awesome. I find it funny how the Comic Misconceptions video detailing this story painted it in a triumphant light where Gerber was successful where as SFDebris painted it as unfortunate because the delay made it meaningless. I feel like it was a success, I don't recall Gerber getting in trouble for this or any comic retconning the crossover where they stole Howard so it worked even if no one noticed and I think no one noticing helped in that regard.
Thanks for this one: always learn a lot from you. Please consider something from Charlton or Continuity. Neal Adam's 80's universe of camp is fascinating and some of it holds up better than the early Image crap.
'Destroyer the Duck' held with nostalgists on the 70's of Gerber's counterculture concepts with Kirby's energetic imagery of the 60's on latter 1980 concepts of politics & corporate trademarks with a militant converse of Howard. 'Stewart the Rat' was far more neurotic than Howard and spite its nudity & adult language paces on social commentary similar with Howard despite some dated concepts. Both are modest comic book time capsules for their era.
I really enjoyed Stewart, plus it was much the same kind of story that Gerber did in HtD. I was a little late to Destroyer Duck, but the combo of Gerber and Kirby was unusual, to say the least.
Gerber was/is my favorite comic writer. Even when the writing became too Gerber-esque. As Colridge wrote, " kill your darlings", Gerber's "darlings" being cheap shots aimed at trivial, commercial targets. Still I love Vanilla Cupcake and Woblina Strangelegs!
at the end, you may said that Marvel kinda got what it deserved, got eaten by a bigger fish Disney, and this bigger fish draw marvel into the mud to eat worms as in trying to catch the attention on other demographics that has little to no interest in comics or superheroes(Lgbts, and such) to see if they can get (for some reasons) big bucks from such collectives, which later on backfire on their corporated faces with low sell comics and 'piss off fans', that is drivin g right now the comic industry into the shallow grave .
Not to mention the fact that editorial at Marvel is too stubborn to realize this, and they’re continuing to toss more wood into the metaphorical fire, with good series like Immortal Hulk or Daredevil being a rarity. Meanwhile, their biggest competitor DC is already kinda realizing this (not sure about their movies, though) and have already addressed some of their issues like fucking Dan DiDio, 5G, Diamond Distribution, and stopping Tom King from ruining their biggest money maker. They haven’t fixed everything, but it’s a start.

"Homocidal Disco Zombie" sounds like a great title for a comic book!
Don't forget Leonard the Fowl, who is the real Howard the Duck in witness protection.
I remember seeing Destroyer Duck at my LCS long ago. If I'd known it was Gerber/Kirby I'd have gobbled it up like pez.
Thanks for always educating me.

I owned both of these. I don't think I remember reading Stewart, though my copies of Destroyer are here with my copies of Howard.
Definitely going to check out Destroyer Duck.

That's one BADASS Duck
Only distantly aware of these titles, very interesting as usual.

I luv this duck. Ever need to take down a small country and Rambo is unavailable...call Destroyer Duck!
I think every issue of Howard featured the phrase "y-y-you're a duck! "
And now Disney owns Marvel...
Even when he's dead, Steve Gerber can't catch a break, can he?
I didn't know anything about this characters! Thanks for your work.

The origin for the rat is pretty horrific
Awesome video!
Actually, Kirby went back to Marvel right around the time Marvel was launching Howard the Duck in the Fall of '76.
Both great books when they came out
Homicidal disco zombies? Sign me up!

Are you going to continue doom patrol in the future
