I am not an RC person but I'm 67 yrs old and remember these slide in campers very well. You sir did an unbelievably realistic build. Boys simply never grow up, we just need most expensive toys. i really enjoyed this video.
I wish I had the time to build something like that. I could do it, but too much going on in my life. I have plenty of experience in working with styrene, wood and metals. My hat is off to you sir. It is always good to see a fellow modeler showing off his talent. Sadly as I get older, my fingers are starting to protest working on such projects.
We traveled across the country in one of these back in 72. As far as the mounting dad had a 3/4 ton and the I remember there was a steel angle that's was mounted inside the bed and came up over the top of the bed out about a foot or, and had turn buckles attached to that. Forgot to mention NO A/C pop always went old school, you haven't lived till you spend 2 weeks on the coast of Texas living in one.
Wow reminds me of my rig in the 80s ,we had the overhead camper on our 75 f250 ,pulling a small trailer from ca to Colorado elk & deer hunting ,4 X out to our camp ,unhook the camper and hunt out of the truck or on foot ❤️👍
I love the scale detail that you have put into each of the campers. You’ve got to be the first that’s done it. Stick with it and don’t let go. I remember back in 1989 I had a Tamaya Blackfoot that I had basically ruined with a terrible paint job, but it still ran great, it has a 10 tooth pinion gear, and with a 550 motor you can do some serious pulling, but the gearbox differential will give out. I Fabricated a trailer out of the plastic that you buy at the counter in the hobby store, I bought gray metal beams, some flat plastic panel pieces to make the wheel well and a ball and clevis set up for the hitch on the back of the Blackfoot. I made myself a trailer that was scale from the trailers that I could see at the marina down from where I lived at the time in oyster Bay, New York. Are used for landing gear from Dubrow model, airplane wheels for the tires nowadays there are much better choices. But I was able to Design and fabricate a boat trailer with no planning. I just begin cutting pieces CA glueing The pieces together to make the trailer. I remember bringing back to show it off to the proprietor at Gold Coast hobbies in Glen Cove New York and someone offered to buy it the entire set up from me right there on the spot for $400.. Don’t stop see if you can get these into hobby stores.
You are very talented, they look awesome. Growing up my dad had a 60's Chevy Apache 1 ton and a Winnebago and it was some memories I'll never forget. Thank you!!
I am just getting in to the hobby, and I must say its a very addicting hobby! Started with a Traxxas Bigfoot, then a TRX4 hightrail F150, then a 4x4 Slash, and an Atlas 4x4 Powerwagon coming this week. Absolutely awesome work, those campers look amazing!
Oh geez man those campers are insanely impressive! 73k views...... I think you need to do more camper videos. I would love to see some time lapse footage of the build process. You've got a new subscriber. Aloha from maui! 😎🤙🏽
Thank you for building and showing us these great caravans. I also think that you shouldn't risk falling over with such luggage on the loading area. On trips with other drivers, I unfortunately had to realize that others only see scalers and crawlers as toys and ram into my car without restraint and grin at the same time. Because I have also torn off a few wing mirrors, aerials and scale elements myself off-road, I now leave them off my models. I've subscribed to your channel so I don't miss any of your videos. -[8-D
Wow that is just so cool, the best I’ve ever seen. Outstanding job the detail wow that’s awesome. Sure appreciate you sharing I will be watching for more.
Hello from France 🇫🇷 We do not have much of those IRL, but yours look exactly as real as we could imagine! And riding with heavy body is very pleasant for the skill it need and the huge difference with an usual rock crawler that go everywhere without mind it before. Well done I love it 🎉
Two times I have started scratch building slide in campers in styrene and both times I stopped as the scale just wasn't correct. Obviously 3D printing is the way to go but I do not have one as of yet. Both of yours are very nice, the attention to detail is phenomenal! I've always wanted to put an interior in the camper that I build. No, it would not do well on the trails but then again I would never want to have it tip over and destroy it! 😊 What surprises me is you choose to use a lexan body instead of a hard body. I think a hard body would really set it off because of the additional detail that you get plus you could put a full interior and an opening hood with engine compartment. Regardless, as always, beautiful build!
Actually the first camper I build was before i got a 3d printer. It's on my channel somewhere. The shell is mostly basswood and styrene. Its the only camper that has a full interior. I didn't actually choose the lexan body, thats how it came from the factory. It's pretty detailed for lexan. Thats all that is available. If I could have made a custom printed body I would have been able to have a full dept camper, but i would probably need a different chassis. Seems like opening a can of worms so I left the truck alone. It was easier to just make the camper shallow and put curtains on the windows. Appreciate the comment 👍
My dad had a slide in camper for our 73 F350 super camper special. Our ladder was closer to the back wall. Just enough room for a aluminum folding chair. Pretty darn cool.
That's awesome, man! I remember when I was little, my dad always had a camper on the CHEVY in Alaska. We'd ride above the cab on the bed going down the road. But seeing that camper brought back a lot of memories. You say you'd sell one, but the price would be insane, I was just curious about what it'd be? Great job on the build, though, and I look forward to seeing more when or if you build more.
Thanks man. Great story. Those were the good ole days. I made one similar to these and sold it to an local RV dealership for $4k ish Canadian. Delivered it in person. I can't imagine ever shipping anything like this, would surely get damaged. There are hundreds of hours into making one between printing and labour and at least 5-600 in material. I would never be able to mass produce these, but half built shells, yes.
Hola mi Amigo como estas , eres un hombre muy detallista , el realismo es increible gran obra maestra muchas gracias por tú tiempo y esfuerzo saludos desde Panama city

I was just watching one of your older videos from 4 years ago. Didn't realize how long ago you started with these campers. I would definitely be interested in some panels to build my own. Hit me up on a price. I know I wouldn't be able to do it as much Justice as you have with the scale. Detail but I really want one.
Very cool, impressive detail… I’ve got the same Traxxas truck and didn’t like the severe body rolling (even without a camper on the back..😅) I adapted a rear sway bar to the rear and what a difference it made….completely different handling rig.
