  • Marlboro Man David McLean stars as Tate, a wandering gun-for-hire who lost the use of his left arm during the Civil War. Only 13 episodes of this unique TV Western were filmed. Watch for the BIG guest stars!
STOPOVER: Tate rides into town with the body of a wanted outlaw he's just killed, and presents it to the sheriff to collect the bounty. The sheriff sends Tate to the saloon to wait while he fills out the paperwork. At the saloon, Tate runs into a young hothead who's itching to put a notch on his gun. Directed by IDA LUPINO!

ToreDL87 Strong gun, but not as well handling as the Colt 1873. Of course, all these Westerns use 1892 Winchester rifles, even if the setting is supposed to be before that. Why not use 1866 and 1873 period correct rifles or Henrys, Spencers, etc.? Another thing is that percussion revolvers were prevalent at this time, and you seldom see them in Westerns.

@@t.curran8243 problem was until the italian western boom of the mid 60s no one was making replica cap and ball guns.tv and movies seem to have sort of compromised by taking the front stock off a winchester and calling it a henry and using long barrelled remington 75s when a cap and ball is needed as they vaguely look like them. thats why no cartridge belts in bonanza all their guns should be cap and ball.in the spaghetti westerns we see a lot of 1860 colts and other civil war weapons and then they gradually got into mainstream westerns.the other problem with cap and ball is blanks and reloading the weapons of the time took longer to reload than cartridge pistols and there is a risk of misfire which is time a film crew cant afford to waste. c b de mille is the only old time director who regularly used actual period guns rolling block remingtons spensers henrys winchester 1876 heavy bore muskets can be seen in his movies though all gun fights with pistols are the usual colt peacemaker whatever the date.

The actor who played Ben Tracy had lousy fast-draw technique. Freeze frame at 2:58 and you will see that his elbow is jutting off to the side, and he pulls his revolver out too far before aiming it at his foe. A real gunfighter would keep his elbow closer to his side, and he would aim his gun the moment the muzzle clears the holster.
That being said, however, this episode is absolutely brilliant. I love Bill Tennant's performance as the twitchy, grinning young gunslinger in the bar. What a performance! "What's your name, Mister?" Classic. I wonder why Bill Tennant didn't appear in other westerns.
This episode is also a sad commentary on the scant options that a young woman had in those days. Women from poor families had to either get married or do sex-related work.
