Now we need the sister sequel. Installing Hannah Montana Linux on the Barbie PC.
How about Rebecca Black OS. Last updated only a few months back!
That could work too.
@@Jabjabs I heard they only develop that OS on fridays.
That's what I was thinking too! :-D
@@Jabjabs IM SORRY THE *WHAT* YES PLEASE
"...and if you're asking why Justin Bieber Linux..."
Yep.
That's what happened...
😂
its the action retro humor i dearly love.
"so why justin beiber?"
*cut*
ANYWAY
Anyways, here's WonderWall...
Ewwww I didn't even know Bieber had a Linux distro it must suck by a lot I use Garuda Dragonized as a Linux Operating System lol when I am in the mood to use it anyway.
i still remember when microsoft sued justin beiber linux LLC over their use of wordart in the 1.0 retail release. that version is very rare now, take care of it.
also fun fact the original "id just like to inteject for a moment" copypasta is actually lyrics from one of justin's songs.
I don't Belieb it!
Justin time for the pun
i'm a belieber
You need to get the Barbie version, then track down the legendary Barbie Debian for installation.
Barbian
@@alecmackintosh2734 Barb and Ian? Deb would not be happy.
Barbuntu
So long as he has a Ken-do attitude, that shouldn't be so hard, though he'll need to repair it because even brand new The Barbie computer was notorious for being unreliable. But if he can get a Barbie PC and get it working again then Barbie Debian is just a hop, Skipper, and a jump away.
I love that the CPU paste blurring effects still let you see exactly how the paste gets applied 🙃
He did it wrong. How do I know? Because he showed it on TH-cam...😅
CPU paste application techniques cause more arguments than the 2024 US Presidential election.
at least he can stop arguments about the amount used, but the method is still clear 😶
Thing with those PicoATX thingies, you gotta be sure they have enough juice on the 5v rail. Older ATX machines had the main vCore driven from 5v, this eventually changed to 12v. So if it's tuned for newer systems it won't deliver enough, the label on the original PSU says up to 12a of 5v.
A relative gave me a early 2000's HP micro-atx system with a failing PSU. The point of failure was due to swollen caps.
@@timmooney7528 not sure how that's relevant to what I said but ok
@@Nukle0nThe relevance is the smaller 85W-100W PSU's should be checked for swollen caps. I get the impression the PSU had it's capacity exceeded vs the capacitor plague.
@@timmooney7528 He's not using the old PSU though, he's using a PicoATX PSU, it's that little tiny board that plugs directly into the 20-pin connector.
@@Nukle0n and why, oh wise one, is he using a picoatx instead of the one it came with?
For some reason I was expecting Justin Bieber's baby to come out of the speakers when that started up
Same.
Someone should make a mix of that "Whoahoaha" he does in the intro fading in to the Windows Me/2000 logon sound
I find it incredibly entertaining that justin beiber linux is based on puppy linux, of all the distros they could have chosen
Definitely put Arch on there, even if it's just temporary before restoring Windows 98 onto it. There's nothing like running cutting edge Linux on hardware that was slow and limited even when it was new.
I'd also love to see the Arch forum responses to a post asking for help getting this working. "RTF...wait, WHAT are you doing?!"
Arch doesn't even run on 32 bit processors anymore...
32-bit installation of Arch Linux is broken due to way too old keyring.
@@petar0402 I still don't know why the archlinux32 continues to ship with a completely broken/nonexistent keyring, BUT if anyone really wants to install archlinux32 it's still possible to fix the keyring yourself. It just.. takes a long time because of the refresh-keys
@@petar0402 someone should fix that, then
You’ll have to excuse me, Sean, if I skip my tenth PCBWay ad for the day.
Yeah almost everyone I watch is sponsored by PCBWay
hola homestar como estas
lol me too omg
Or you could use SponsorBlock, which skips it automatically.
I always love how you blur out the application of thermal paste 🤣
Man the censoring of the thermal paste application gave me good cackle 😂
Was looking for this comment 😂
Not a hard to get reference nowadays, but still hilarious. 🤣
I really do want at least two of these, one to make into a windows 98/early XP era beast, and another to make into a ridiculously stupid small form factor sleeper
Back to Windows 98 for sure!
“Will it Bieber? That is the question.” And I have to say that, yes, it will Bieber, but the Bieber will break your heart on the Hot Wheels PC…
"If you gaze too much to justin bieber linux edition, the justin bieber linux edition start to gaze you". FW Nietzsche Rolling Release, btw Arch.
Omg 😲 the screen came up and I thought I was having an acid flashback ! Lol then I remembered no that's an actual computer they made on purpose.
I love your "why you ask? Pfft the better question is why not" attitude with everything! 😊 keeps me coming back (been ssubbed for 4 or so years now)
ya know my fav thing justin beaver ever did was when he cameoed in that episode of csi.
Circuit City? I don't think time travelers are supposed to reveal themselves. Watch out for the loom.
imagine a quick run to microcenter..... shits like 4hours away (tho i have been to the one outside philly when i lived up there and it was much closer than miami lol )
I live in Houston and we have one. Sure, we get hit by the occasional hurricane, but it's the price I pay for being 30 minutes away from a Microcenter😂
Imagine a quick run. It's 7 hours away for me.
@@AshtonCoolman I thought you'd written "we get hit by the occasional microcenter" and thinking, dang, that's home delivery.
oh man Bieber GRUB, that's some laser-guided marketing there
This is probably the most random thing ever
Perfect job
Why not Hannah Montana Linux!?
Why not a Justin Beiber / Hannah Montana Linux Dual Boot...with a randomizer component thrown is so that on any given boot up... who knows which one you're going to get....🤔🤣🤣🤣
saving that for the Barbie PC
I wonder how well Haiku runs on it
I'd love to see how many teapots that thing can handle 😂
Arch is fun because you get to shout "yay" into a terminal every time package updates come by. Yay!
theres a lot of chaotic energy here in this video and i appreciate that
The power supply looks like an standard SFX form factor. Those PSUs are easy to find, and it'll give you a better restoration.
The content I never knew I needed, from the only channel powerful enough to make it happen 😢
You’ve outdone yourself on the absurdity level. Finally broke down and became a patreon after seeing this video. 😂
You are a madman. Glorious
@5:40 lol mandatory “I run Arch BTW”
You really send retro vibes down my spine.. OOOO lord.
hes not named action retro for nothing eh?
Haha, that "brrrrumvrumm vrum" bit
Hot Wheels PC!? Yummy!
There *must* be a way to hack a PCI port onto that thing (cue video idea).
Just what I was thinking.
Yeah, I REALLY wanna see him figure out how to shoehorn SOME kind of expansion into that thing, even if it has to connect to USB.
@@SuperDavidEF Same.
Love the blur during application of the perfect amount of thermal paste.
After months of searching, I've finally found my next production distro.
You are a hilarious guy. Flicking the fan away killed me LMAO
Unbeliebable. Someone actually made a Justin Beiber-themed joke distro.
Why do I want one of those PC's? Thank you for the entertaining video!
They are miserable to work on and prone to failure
I'm wondering how well a more recent Puppy would work on this hardware.
Most (all?) of them require more than 128 MB of RAM.
I almost convinced my parents to buy one of these back in the day. I wasn't even a hotwheels fan. I preferred matchbox...
id say back to win 98 and play the games designed for it but is fun to see how far you can push it with Linux, a hackintosh would be funny also
But then I seen the hotwheels case! Now I'm a belieber!
I can *feel* the fighting against that keyboard when typing hahaha
As for the wheel, makes me want to play Midtown Madness, but IDK how that'd run.
I do enjoy weird crap like this, so please keep making it
This is a unique opportunity, a retro PC that nobody could object to gutting and upgrading. In fact it was asking to be upgraded the day it was made, all these years later it's practically begging for it.
I even have a suggestion to distinguish your Hot Wheels hotrod from others - you could try to make it into a usable sim racing rig while retaining the idio... syncratic aesthetic.
Biebian does have a much better ring to it than.... Buppy.
As we know, PCB stands for Pretty Computer for Bieber. ;)
Those Hot Wheels and Barbie PCs are really valuable commodities now .
I was excited when the Arch screen popped up, but then immediately disappointed because I knew you weren't going to get far with Justin Bieber Linux.
This may be the best TH-cam video I’ve ever seen!
Would it be possible to dual boot Arch (btw) and Windows 98? Bonus points if it can also boot some form of Apple os.
Rhapsody OS 😆
I only knew about Hannah Montana Linux, I had no idea that JBL even existed. IMO, the only other distro which could have done this hardware justice would have been Satanic Edition Linux, but the specs probably would have been insufficient.
I think the funniest part if this is that you can actually just go out and buy JBL
The funniest part for me is WHERE he bought it. Circuit City? We lost ours years ago. I guess I knew some stores were still around, like Radio Shack. But I never expect to here anyone mention either of those in a YT video.
pretty sure it was a joke, the CD is blank of a cover. He just made the CD himself
Upgrading Hot Wheels PC To Pentium /// (3)?
I'd seen Hannah Montana Linux before, but not this. A classic case of "just because you can doesn't mean you should"
Changed just the output caps and a smaller one that was higher voltage, over 16[V] on a identical PSU... and that fixed mine, still works fine to this day.
That bubble case may be a great candidate to use as a Raspberry Pi case. Should I get my hands on a Hot Wheels or Barbie PC, I am putting a Raspberry Pi in it.
I think you should hunt down a Barbie-themed version of this computer, install Hannah Montana Linux on it, and then leave the two next to each other in your basement for a year to see what happens.
EDIT: oops, I see someone got there before me. Shows it has to be THE Right Thing to do.
I'd love to see you try and install AROS on there
Hi Action Retro! Would you be able to make a video about the iMac G4 20" screen replacement with a iMac G5 screen? Or a 2GHz iMac G4 mod?
We've got Hannah Montana Linux, and now Justin Bieber Linux.
Now when is Lamarbuntu? JPEGMINUX?
I’m pretty sure I saw a tweet a few days ago asking which distro of Linux suits this and everyone said Justin Bieber Linux, what a coincidence!
i love the small pc case design
I feel like it might have been worth burning some games to a CD to install the old-fashioned way to see that wheel in action.
I asked on the Puppy Linux forum about why the repos aren't working. Waiting for a response. More than likely you probably have to update them to point to a newer repo link, or flat out use a newer Puppy variant but we'll see.
The Puppy Linux forums are pretty comfy though.
It's a very old release so the repositories are probably just not up anymore
@@olnnn Yeah, that's what I'd expect. They aren't Puppy Repos, they're Ubuntu Repos. Canonical have no reason to keep them up.
Here's the response for anyone curious or even Action Retro, might help you out:
The answer, not including this bit.. "They say you should be able to access your packages by putting the following into /etc/apt/sources.list. Important: Change CODENAME to your distribution's code name, e.g. jaunty" is because there are certain "DISTRO_*" specific files within ~/.packages that would require editing, something the author of your video was not aware of.
it's odd Action Retro didn't do this with this PC. He did this before on another PC with the first Ubuntu release, changed the repos to the archived link to get all of the updates and programs available for that version.
Hysterical, thank you for this! Keep the weird crap coming.
Gotta censor the thermal paste application so that nobody gets upset over it 😂
The case reminds me of the HP Pavillions made around '99-2000. Those little XE series Pavillions had tiny 85W-110W PSU's.
My brother has one of these machines, had it since the early aughts. We converted it into a sleeper with an 8600K in 2018, but we weren't going to modify the case.
Let me tell you, finding a somewhat modern PSU that fits that form factor was the biggest pain in the ass of the whole build. It's a FlexATX, but not the version made these days. It was a variant of the standard that was introduced in the 90's and long abandoned. I got lucky finding the one I did that had enough juice to power it.
Funny, my jukebox still runs socket 370 1.1. It croaked temporarily because of dead CR2032 battery. The system was looking for startup file on the floppy drive, which I recycled ages ago. I had to manually move the CMOS jumper from 1 to 0 and back again. I had forgotten those jumpers even existed.
What a crazy yet interesting device. I would definitely choose the „Win98SE Retro Gaming PC“-way, play some Megarace 2 or pod on that rig 🤓
I remember seeing a video on LGR's TH-cam channel, which was him fixing both the Barbie & Hot Wheels Computers
Do either. I wanna see more out of this machine. A rich friend of mine as a kid had this machine, minus the steering wheel. Was great for the hot wheels video game :P
You should turn the computer into a Linux Mint Cinnamon computer as close as you can get to retro in 2024.
Why not Haiku OS?
7:30
Preinstalled torrent on an artist distro flavor is wild
How the hell did they display an image on the startup terminal?
Reminds me of my old SGI O2. It needs to be upgraded because it's so beautifully bonkers.
theres also rebecca black os, which is fairly active, its basically a testbed for a bunch of technologies
Wow, this video has changed the title more than I have changed girlfriends in my entire life.
hot rod the hot wheels computer with biebian!
Since you are already on the path of committing all kinds of sins, why not make it FrankenDebian by trying to upgrade Biebian with repos from Debian 13. Maybe it will destroy the OS, but in theory the CPU is just "new" enough to still be supported
Make the ultimate w98 build with this. The best components w98 officially supported.
You said it came with software; I'm wondering if it came with any sort of OEM restore media. If so, I would love to see you make a video of restoring the original OS to it, and please archive it if you haven't already (if it actually came with it, of course).
Did you use the archive repositories for Ubuntu Lucid? The main ones are no longer available I think
9:28 your SDR dimm doesn't have SPD I guess? I see in the manual for this intel board they specifically say that it supports that, was that just a thing at the time?
I suggest installing a distro in the Debian/Ubuntu family with KDE Plasma. You can then set up a retro Windows theme, install Wine & configure it to Windows 98 mode. That would be a lot better than limiting it with actual Windows 98.
I wanted one of the Hotwheels Pc's SOOO bad back when they were new. lol
i love this channel ngl keep up the great work🙂
This is unbelieble!
you should turn it into a minimalist emu station! Amiga version of Super Offroad would be fun with that wheel
these things were notorious for bad power supplies, so many of their computers of this size exploded the recalls were a major factor for the company's bankruptcy
It looks like there was an option for a proper 3rd party onboard video, but they skipped it
>installs justin bieber linux
>is asked why he installs justin bieber linux
>refuses to elaborate
what a chad
If you have the Barbie PC, why not install Justin Bieber Linux on that one? Seems appropriate! 🤣
Hum, tempted to suggest sticking modern hardware into the case and see if you can get modern racing Sims running on it.
Still using the CRT, speakers and wheel of the original.
