So who the hell is this Oli Parker kid? | 50K Q&A (Part 1 of 2)

  • 00:00 - Worst intro ever?
    1:21 - Music experience & when I started trumpet
    3:50 - How I make my solos
5:25 - Who and what I listen to
7:19 - Better outro than intro
Some questions I’ve also had in the past:
Trumpet model - Bach Strad Model 37
Trumpet mouthpiece - honestly don’t know for sure as it doesn’t have an engraving and got it years ago, but I think it’s either a 3B, 7C or 7E as I also have another 7E and 3B and those were the only mouthpieces I used when playing classical stuff so it wouldn’t be too dissimilar from them.
    Flugelhorn - Yamaha Custom
Flugel mouthpiece - Phil Parker FL66
    Microphone - Audio Technica AT2020
    Audio interface - Audient iD14
Software I use - Logic Pro for audio, DaVinci Resolve for video editing.

Hey guys, I know I only answered a couple questions but I wanted to give you proper detailed answers rather than answer loads of questions really quickly. I’d be happy to do a quicker style vid where I answer more questions in a shorter time frame if that’s something you’d like to see? Feel free to ask me any other questions you might have! I’d also like to know what you thought of this video and if you’d like more of these chilled out kinda vids. Happy to do more! Road to 100K here we go 🎺

@@Zobgo_Islander I think I do but sometimes without really thinking about it. I remember I’ve referenced the slim shady solo a couple times in later tracks but can’t remember which ones!

Just thought I'd say this was nice getting to know you (by means of this video). I'm a trombone player, my oldest is a trombone player, and my other child is a trumpet/flugelhorn player, and we are all tuned in to your channel. We love your playing and what you do with the sheet music scrolling along as you play (curious what program you use to capture your improvisation?). You've shown my kids what is possible if you keep working at it. Thank you for keeping REAL music alive.

Missed the premiere but thanks for the great Q&A! I'm glad I'm not the only one that sort of took a break from playing for a bit (my trumpet lived in the case for about 10 years after college while trying to get my software dev career off the ground). It's definitely been nice playing again over the last couple years, though. It's giving me something to focus on in terms of improving my skills outside of something that might be related to work. Looking forward to part 2!

I also love metal. Not only the progressive scene but most of the other subgenres too. I find technical death metal inspiring because they always play something harder than what I can even touch so attempting to learn that type of music pushes my boundaries

nice to hear you talking about your experience and only playing for nineteen years. listening to you i have clearly wasted a lot of effort not practicing properly. it's not what you practice but how you practice that counts. really enjoying your videos, loving the super clean sound you produce. some really good players have aweful sounds, i've been blessed with having some fabulous players around me.

Was shocked to hear you say Sousa and Klezmer - both super fun styles, just not what I imagined as your original influence! Playing trumpet in a band in America, I have a love/hate relationship with Sousa haha, we get all the melodies, but it's a bit overdone here.
Anyway, great "first" video, like to have these sprinkled in between the solo/music uploads.

    • @oliparker
      @oliparker  ปีที่แล้ว

yeah I can imagine Sousa is very popular with the bands over there, I don't listen to it anymore but it probably got me wanting to play a brass instrument in the first place

Hey man! I am just starting trumpet, I started in 6th grade, and am now in 7th, but I have played in my before school jazz band, and my (8th grade level) concert band, and the high school band teacher is not the teacher I would like to progress with, so I was wondering if you would be interested in mentoring a semi-intermediate trumpet player in a year or 2? ➡please make this top comment!! ⬅I would like to possibly go into proffesional trumpet playing, and making a jazz ensemble to jam with in the streets with my friends, but i still want to learn more. I was thinking meybe somthing virtual like a google meet, or zoom call a coulple times per week and meybe get payed or something, but trumpet is my jam rn, and I don't plan to stop any time soon. meybe see u in a couple of years!
