  • If we can train Beyd to defeat Zig in a duel, then maybe he can help us fix the lighthouse. It won't be easy though. Game made and published by Capcom.

For all these years, I've been training Beyd the hard way by getting his hp up high enough, which takes about 50 bazillion training sessions.
It wasn't until yesterday that I finally learned about the backhand trick. I never bothered to apprentice under Durandal because his skills are a joke. However, since backhand is a non-lethal attack (just like the gravity spells in the final fantasy games), that's the best and easiest way to get Beyd's defense up.
What I did was have Nina and Momo defend while Ryu used backhand on him in the first turn. I actually recommend having Nina and Momo examine instead of defend so that Beyd will be less likely to attack Ryu and risk a reprisal. Immediately after Beyd attacked, he went into defense mode. From that point onward, keep having Ryu use backhand and Momo use heal.
Even though Ryu's turn comes before Momo's, Momo will heal Beyd before Ryu uses backhand on him.
If you keep doing this, Beyd will remain in defense mode indefinitely. After all 20 turns are up, Beyd's defense will skyrocket, especially if you all have EX turns. After I trained Beyd with this method, his attack power only went up 4 points, and his hp only went up 17 points, but his defense got a whopping 74 points, and that was enough for him to defeat Zig without any help.
And if you decide to train Beyd twice with this method, Zig won't be able to scratch him.

I remember training beyd 50 nights and still losing in one playthrough and then another playthrough like 4 nights using an optimal guide and kicking Zigs ass~
