One great idea for your cabin is an outside vented icebox. JC Declos (TH-cam), fabricated it to utilize vented outside temps to keep things at the perfect tempeture… That and the use of frozen salt water bottles during Summer. All in all, you have a very cozy ‘dry’ cabin. Thanks for sharing!
Hello I just seen your video I liked it so I am a new subscriber to your channel the cabin this cabin is a little bit bigger than what I had 35 years ago , I also watch two people from Michigan they off grid there channel is off grid with jay and Jen but I really like the size of your cabin mine was 20x20 but I sold it years ago I am from Ontario Canada ❤️❤️❤️❤️🇨🇦🇨🇦😎
Happy New Year❣️ Love your quaint little cabin! Thanks for sharing. That was one BIG fish Todd. My husband loves fishing for Salmon & Trout in SE Wisconsin on Lake Michigan in Milwaukee, Racine and Kenosha area.
Wife & I are on a similar journey...bought property with a cabin on stilts north of Fairview several miles into the woods - off grid - we supply electrical via generator powering lights, newly installed well...propane for stove and wood stove for heat. We started at the insulation between the wall studs, now have planking up on 1st floor. We're there to work bet. Framing walls upstairs, formalizing the kitchen, ....lots of oak trees succumbing to oak wilt, thus felling, splitting, stacking. Bummer regarding your propane fridge - we're exploring that now to limit the generator run time Def. some solar in our future. Manistee is fabulous - we don't have the river, so a big plus for you! Will be watching you for insights - thanks for sharing!
We used a Honda EU 2000 for the first 3 years or so. Then, switched over to various portable solar generator systems. Tested quite a few over the years. They're a game changer, especially if you have a good spot with some sun. We're hoping at some point to replace the fridge, with something similar, but a little larger. Buying bags of ice in the summer gets old fast.
Plywood is a SUBFLOOR and wont hold up when you track in anything. You need to get that Plywood covered with something immediately. Even if its tile or cheap sheet flooring. It will protect the Plywood.
Didn't sell, we just have it to Todd's step-dad. He's retired and needed something to work on. It's still in the family and may return someday 😀 if he gets bored with it.
Not with the cabin. They've never tried to get in. Most of any food we leave there is long term and sealed quite well. There's definitely black bears in the area tho.
Thank you for the video. I just found your channel. Just give me some ideas of my cabin. I am Building. on my channel. In the upper peninsula of Michigan.
I painted my outhouse white inside so we could see any spiders heading our way! Great cabin!
That's a great idea!

Great looking cabin thanks for the video tour and y'all sold the old Jeep correct?
Didn't sell, we just have it to Todd's step-dad. He's retired and needed something to work on. It's still in the family and may return someday 😀 if he gets bored with it.
Looks like a great cabin. Any future plans to go full time off grid there?
Once we retire, we plan on spending a LOT more time there.
The bedrooms are very dark and gloomy. It is better to repaint the walls in light colors.
Do you ever have issues with bear?
Not with the cabin. They've never tried to get in. Most of any food we leave there is long term and sealed quite well. There's definitely black bears in the area tho.

We've learned a lot about living part-time off grid over the last 9 years. We'll keep sharing more ♥
