I saw Led Zeppelin perform April 8, 1970 in Dorton Arena, Raleigh, NC. I was 17 and that was best concert to this day I ever saw. Watching this amazing video does bring tears to my eyes.
Haha. For a split I was thinking: " It'll be fun to see what these old folks think ". Then I remember that I was at a Led Zeppelin concert 52 years ago.. on acid. And these ladies are my age.
An interesting fact. Led Zepplin had invited Jason Bonham to come and be with them for this. Jason thanked them for the invite but he had other commitments. That was as a drummer for this performance. Also the bowler hat was in honor of his father who wore a bowler hat when drumming.
What a set of pipes on Ann 😱 and at 62yo.. you can really hear the maturity and depth in her voice in that it is, in a word, "Seasoned" 🤷.. absolutely sensational.. the perfect choice to tribute, arguably the greatest rock song of all time by the greatest rockers of all time.. the reaction on the old boys faces say it all!! 🤘🤘
Robert Plant is Jason's godfather. John Bonham and Robert Plant were best friends. Ledd Zepp had asked Jason to play for this performance. He told them he couldn't due to prior obligations. He didn't have any obligations. He said that, so he could surprise them. Jason said it broke his heart to tell them that. There's a video on TH-cam that shows Jason being introduced before this performance. Robert Plant literally jumps out of his seat in joy seeing Jason. It's VERY touching.
How can one not tear up at such a magnificent performance? It was soul stirring even if you didn’t know the original. Thanks babies and rock on. ✌🏻💖🤟🏻🎶
Granny Haze has seen not them live several times, I have not. They are amazing though and this cover of Stairway to Heaven is magnificent. Pure magic. Keep on rocking babies. ✌🏻🎶🤟🏻💖
@@nanaking9560 Thankfully we have great studio recordings excellent live recordings and they are still making music....We can try to expose the younger generation to this kind of quality that influenced us so much........
Supposedly the guys from Zeppelin had asked Jason Bonham to be there at the event and he excused himself and told them that he couldn't make it because he had a previous commitment but didn't tell them that the previous commitment was drumming for Heart in the same event, so they were shocked and happy when he came out and played their most iconic song in their and his dad's honor. If I remember right he's Robert Plant's godson, and all the band are basically uncles to him.
@jmhaces You're right that Jason is Plant's godson, and John Paul Jones and Jimmy Page, along with Plant are like Jason's uncles. Jason starting drumming at a very young age and his father was so proud of his son's abilities that Bonzo used to wake Jason up at all hours to have him join their parties/jam sessions to play drums. Wild times for a young kid who grew up amongst the gods that are Led Zeppelin.
Great reaction, lovely grannies! Yes, only certain types of voices can sing this song and Robert Plant and Anne Wilson have those voices. Heart did them proud!
Heart was phenomenal. You could see the pride & joy in the faces of Led Zeppelin members, especially Robert Plant. It was a beautiful thing indeed. Keep on rocking babies. ✌🏻💖🎶🤟🏻
Their induction was 20 years later than it should have been. There are few bands that have had such an influence on the direction music followed but their management revolutionised the music industry.
It will never get any better than that. THE rock anthem of all time. After all these years of being a rock fan, I still cry shamelessly when this is played. Even Robert Plant was crying here. If any one sing can humble me, silence me, stop me in my tracks, send my humour out the door, it's here,, and now. And to hear Stairway, one wound never know that the main Zep' influence was 50's and 60's blues from the Mississippi delta. Heart was a band I follow for a while in the 80's. But Zep' have never been out of the picture for me. I'm one very happy man, for the fact the you had this on your playlist. A heart felt thank you. TTFN
You are so very welcome Graham. I’m glad we chose to do this one. Heart absolutely killed it. Imagine how touched the band was when their drummers son sat in for his deceased Dad on this performance. The whole thing was overwhelmingly incredible. Keep on rocking my friend. ✌🏻🎶💖🤟🏻
Wow, ladies. That's one the best, most Heartfelt tributes ever, and it gets me EVERY time. (When Plant cries... 😊) And Ann Wilson is, to me, the best female rock singer, ever. Great job, Grannies! 😄👍
Thanks so much Scott for all of your kind comments. Ann Wilson is truly phenomenal. This whole performance is so very special. Glad you enjoyed it. Keep on rocking babies. ✌🏻🎶💖🤟🏻
The reason Rober Plant was crying was John Bonham's Son Jason Bonham was snuck in when the lights were down and got on the drum set to play that song to honor his father and if you notice Jason is even wearing a Bowler hat that his dad liked to wear, then all the singers put on Bowler hats to honor John Bonham
@@bradmannion6769 I believe the hat that Jason was wearing was his dads actual hat and it was one Johns actual drum kits too. Also, Robert had asked Jason to go with the band to the honours but Jason said he had a previous engagement, so it was shock to see him onstage!
I love this concert and never get tired seeing Jason play the drums on it. Heart did LZ proud with this one, but the whole tribute to them is awesome. I have a few suggestions, though they're not your usual ones :-) Pentatonix doing "Bohemian Rhapsody", Brian May shared the video he liked it so much. Also "Hallelujah" by them; Prince doing "Purple Rain" live at the superbowl in the rain! They called to tell him it was raining to see if he still wanted to go on and he asked, "Can you make it rain harder?"; And Kennedy Honors again, this time Adam Lambert doing Cher's "Believe". There are other requests you might like that are more mainstream and I'll slip those in when they come to me :-) Great new channel! Love your reactions!
Glad you enjoyed it. Bummer that you watched the cropped version. It’s a lovely tribute, but someone decided to edit out chunks of the performance before uploading it to TH-cam. The buildup of the song was minimized by the edit, IMO.
THIS IS AWESOME...KENNEDY HONORS...TAX PAYERS FUNDED...DON'T EXPECT AN INVITATION. NANCY WILSON...BET FEMALE GUITARIST..ROBERT PLANT..I FELT THE YEARS IN YOUR FACE...SIGH

Thank you SO MUCH for reacting to this song!! 😍 I requested it some time back and just knew you would love it. More than worth the wait and perfect for the Retro channel. Totally understand how you got so overwhelmed and emotional, Granny Haze. This video brings tears to my eyes EVERY TIME I watch it, and I've seen it dozens of times. Jason Bonham not only plays his father's drum kit, but he also wore his dad's bowler hat and the choir (all wearing bowler hats) are subtly shaped like a big bowler hat that looks down on Jason as he beats those drums almost as hard and as fiercely as his dad once did. Robert Plant said in an interview after the Kennedy Center Honors that his tears came in part from the amazing performance, but also because he misses his bestie, John "Bonzo" Bonham. Jason (Plant's god son) kept his involvement in the performance a secret, and even told Plant that he had a prior commitment and couldn't join the surviving band members in the balcony, so Plant was completely knocked off guard when Jason came on stage. Even if I can make it through most of the song without getting emotional, the moment when Jason looks upward (toward his dad in heaven) as Ann Wilson sings "...and she's buying a stairway to heaven" gets me all in my feels and the tears flow until I feel wrung out. This song is better than therapy! This clip cut out a couple of shots of Barack and Michelle grooving to Stairway to Heaven. It’s a different video from the one I’ve seen dozens of times.
It was the Kennedy Honors program and the POTUS was there, so I’m not sure what to say. The important part was Heart’s amazing performance though. It just couldn’t get any better than that. Thanks and keep on rocking babies. ✌🏻🎶🤟🏻💖
Great reaction to a great version of this song. It's always great when people are doing a tribute like this that they really go all out and make it special. I have seen an interview with Ann where she talked about what huge fans of Led Zeppelin her and her sister are going back to when they formed Heart. If you are looking for another song to react to, you might want to watch Beth Hart and Jeff Beck performing "I'd rather go blind" for Buddy Guy from the same Kennedy Center Honors show.
Hi Girls, what a wonderful reaction! Please consider reacting to Pentatonix and Queen, especially Pentatonix version of Bohemian Rhapsody! Looking forward to more reactions from my peer group!!
Thanks so much Charlie for your very kind words and for your awesome suggestions. There will definitely be some Queen on this channel. What a band. Keep on rocking babies. ✌🏻🎶💖🤟🏻
@@nanaking9560 anytime ladies! I just checked out ‘Wicked Game’ by Chris Isaac. I’m a hobby guitar player and the guitar accompaniment is just haunting. Of course I left out The Beegees, but I’m sure you have plans for them!
I love both groups and this is the best tribute ever. Robert Plant was brought to tears. And the choir sounded amazing also. I love your reaction video. Can you please react to " Call Me The Breeze" Lynyrd Skynyrd live from Convention Hall in 1977? Please and thank you. You grannies are awesome! 🙂👍
You two are inspirational to a fellow granny! I was searching for someone to react to this specific song and I found you. Keep it up. If you are looking for new music to react to, you might check out Home Free. They are an acapella group that won the top prize on the Sing-Off show, Season 4, I believe. They do a lot of country but cover many genres. If you are brave and want to jump down the Home Free rabbit hole, start with Man of Constant Sorrow.
Great reaction, ladies! I noticed one of you was wearing a Beatles shirt. I’d love to see you react to the cover of Imagine by Pentatonix. I think you’ll find it very uplifting.

The beginning she sounded very much like the original to me... as the song went on not so much but the beginning I wouldn't have been able to tell the difference
the clip you showed was edited shorter. there was two views of the Obamas and it didn't show the opening of the curtain with the choir with the singers with the bowlers on
Can someone tell me: Do The Kennedy Center Honors pertain to just achievements in entertainment or are other fields such as science, mathematics, sports recognized ?
I really do like you guys, but you HAVE JUST GOT to get better at pausing. There are so many places in this song where you can pause that are NOT in the middle of a word, solo, etc.
Pausing is part of reacting. If you put of a pause or a reaction, then it’s no longer a genuine reaction. At least that’s how we roll. Keep on rocking babies. ✌🏻🎶💖🤟🏻

Or even do a video of one of their songs.
Really strange but it really sounds good
Thanks babies for the unusual suggestion. Keep on rocking babies. ✌🏻🎶💖🤟🏻
I love you grans. Try Luciano pavarotti singing Nessun Dorma from the opera turandot. Ive had rappers cry on their first reaction
I'd recommend Blue Oyster Cult.
Songs:
Don't fear the reaper
Sole surviver
Fire of unknown origin
Burning for you
Career of evil
Thanks Enter Toby for your great suggestions. Keep on rocking babies. ✌🏻🎶💖🤟🏻
@@nanaking9560 thank you!
I'm 64 and this song is my favorite song of all time. Heart killed it and i have seen them in concert twice once here in Indy and the other in Germany. Great channel and i just subscribed on sat. oct. 9th. Keep rocking!
Thanks Timothy & welcome to the Granny Squad. Heart truly killed it as you said. We’d like to invite you to check out our other channel if you haven’t already. It’s called Two Rocking Grrannies and we react to heavy metal & hard rock. We’re having a ball. Check it out. Keep on rocking babies. ✌🏻🎶💖🤟🏻
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Absolutely. Keep on rocking babies. ✌🏻💖🎶🤟🏻
Check out Bruno, Anderson Paak, Silk Sonic: Leave the door open,, Skate nd Tribute of little Richard.
Thanks for your suggestion babies and keep on rocking. ✌🏻🎶💖🤟🏻
Thanks babies for the interesting info and suggestion. Keep on rocking. ✌🏻🎶💖🤟🏻
Heart , the best to cover Zeppelin.
It truly is a fantastic cover. I agree 100%. Keep on rocking babies. ✌🏻🎶💖🤟🏻
Ann is the dark haired one.
Thanks babies. Keep on rocking. ✌🏻🎶🤟🏻💖
Thanks babies. So glad you enjoyed it as much as we did. We’ll try to check out your suggestion sometime soon. Keep on rocking babies. ✌🏻🎶💖🤟🏻
@@nanaking9560 Thank you Nana. Keep rockin' Grannies 😎👍
Thank you so much Sue for your suggestion and for your very kind comments too. Keep on rocking babies. ✌🏻🎶💖🤟🏻
Great reaction, ladies! I noticed one of you was wearing a Beatles shirt. I’d love to see you react to the cover of Imagine by Pentatonix. I think you’ll find it very uplifting.
Thanks for your suggestion. We’ll try to check it out sometime soon. Keep on rocking babies. ✌🏻💖🎶🤟🏻
Dear Two Retro Nanies Would LOVE to see you react to one of the most beautiful tributes Adam Lambert tributes Cher w/her song Believe also from the Kennedy Center Honors Here is the link

@@nanaking9560 Thank you dearly Adam even brought Cher tears Adam's vision for this song is absolutely beautiful! Thank you for you kindness
@@nanaking9560 It truly is something to see was also at the Kennedy Honors as well as Aretha Franklin singing "You make me feel like a natural women at the Kennedy honors paying tribute to the writer I promise you hearts will be filled Love you two!
I want to see you two do some RUSH and/or Kansas. Maybe Rush's Xanadu and Kansas's Portrait or Spider.
I don't know if you ladies are into or know about Dexter, but a revival of sorts has occurred to right the wrong of season 8. Dexter: New Blood is happening and here is a song by the Aviators to celebrate. th-cam.com/video/HCXSq_7VnUE/w-d-xo.html
Thanks for the info and for the suggestion and keep on rocking babies. ✌🏻🎶🤘🏻🖤
The beginning she sounded very much like the original to me... as the song went on not so much but the beginning I wouldn't have been able to tell the difference
Heart did an extraordinary job covering this iconic song/band. It was an amazing performance in our opinions. Keep on rocking babies. ✌🏻💖🎶🤟🏻
I love watching reaction vids to this but so many have the shortened version which makes me so sad.
the clip you showed was edited shorter. there was two views of the Obamas and it didn't show the opening of the curtain with the choir with the singers with the bowlers on
Thank you for the info. Keep on rocking. ✌🏻🎶💖🤟🏻
Can someone tell me: Do The Kennedy Center Honors pertain to just achievements in entertainment or are other fields such as science, mathematics, sports recognized ?
Ann is the dark haired one
Too bad you didn’t get the full version. This one was edited missing most of the energy progression :’(
Insane cover, though :)
We thought this is performance right here was incredible. Don’t know how it could have gotten much better. Keep on rocking babies.✌🏻🎶💖🤟🏻
The best rendition that isn’t Led Zeppelin nd one of the few that doesn’t make me cringe
It was just magnificent. There’s really no words. Extraordinary is all I can think of. Keep on rocking babies. ✌🏻🎶💖🤟🏻
They are both your age
this edit of the original heart performence is almost a sin. Loved the reaction though
No grooving?
Play some more great songs
Hippie national anthem, perfect.
