It’s scored acceptable in the small overlap crash test, other competitors did better that’s sad considering this a family vehicle. “Acceptable” crash test rating in 2023 is unacceptable
Tbh Toyotas are usually designed to meet the tests and nothing more, every time they come out with a new test they get worse ratings than others and the next model year they made some magical fix that makes the rating good.
I needed a car and NOW! They had a 4T Limited that had some extras like sunroof and fancy lighting.. I love it! Drives like a much smaller car, very torquey engine much better than my 2014 V6 Pilot MUCH BETTER. the MAX was $6K more not worth it no way, Hybrd was unavailable and looked a bit plainer also and was 2.5K more .... the 4T is simple and straight forard and no battery replacement when I go to trade it in about 8 years
If I could buy the Hybrid Max with a 2nd row bench, I'd even consider paying a markup (I probably wouldn't have any choice) but the product engineers/marketing dept. have screwed us family people over just like every other Toyota/Lexus vehicle when you spec something in the higher/highest trim level. Even if you only have 2 kids, your kids may have friends to haul around, and if you're on a road trip and need all the cargo space with the 3rd row folded down, you're SOL. It really is annoying.
We just got ours and imediately found the ride, the steering and handling and the quiet of the interior far superior to the 2021 Highlander we had. We also are surprised at how quick it is compared to the V6 we used to have. I was not ready for that.
Yeah I wish Toyota thought the same thing with my GR Corolla Premium I’m stuck constantly polishing and cleaning all the gloss black on interior AND exterior
I bet this is the best of the class SUV from Toyota. I have a 2023 Rav4 Limited but this car is just amazing! good looking interior and so on! This is perfect family car!
@PatrickStar12341 idk about that, I personally believe that Toyota makes some beautiful vehicles in their respective classes. The current and next gen camry, the 4Runner, the new prius, the Sequoia, corolla hatch/GR corolla, and the new Land Cruiser look really nice in my opinion.
Chris, I concur, the regular 35 mpg Hybrid on 18" rims is the way to go. Having said that, I am waiting for the Crown Signia to enter the competition for Toyota's top, all around family choice. 🤩
If this had been available when you bought the 21 hybrid Highlander, would you have gone for the grand Highlander hybrid or the regular Highlander hybrid?
@Jonathan-mp32x hey bro just trying to help people out. You put out a false blanket statement that the TX has a softer and smoother ride. In reality, it is very trim dependent.
Love the interior except the storage spaces. In similar class from their main competitors, there is storage space at the bottom of center console. This one only has ONE TINY passenger side pocket on the bottom of the console. Trunk with 3rd row up doesn’t lift to storage. It’s nice the spare is easier to get to but that makes the cargo space even smaller.
I sat in one at a dealer. Tbh wasn’t bigger than the new Pilot imo, the cargo might be a little higher but the 2nd/3rd rows seemed bigger in the Pilot weirdly And that’s a lot cheaper
I hate the drivers area of most Toyotas, they put massive centre consoles there so bigger guys (I’m 6’2” and 240lbs) feel constrained… I liked the old vans and trucks where you could spread out and have plenty of room
Its better than a V6, it's got more torque, 265HP and 310lbft of torque which is more than adequate for a vehicle like this, like the Topher said, it's decently quick. If you want more power you can get the Hybrid Max which has around 100 more horsepower.
Thats what a 3 row SUV costs nowadays. Gone are the days when Chevy Suburbans were 30k. Believe it or not the average price of a new car in 2023 is 48k, so this Grand Highlander Limited AWD at 50k MSRP falls right around the average.
The acceptable rating in the small overlap crash test is a complete deal breaker for me. Totally unacceptable by ANY manufacturer in 2023. Toyota is a brand that makes vehicles to just fill the market. They don’t do anything that’s class leading in my opinion. Sure it’s reliable I’m sure but most people don’t care about that.
Most Toyota customers put reliability as their number 1 priority actually, this is what Toyota is known for. The safety is just fine, it's a big vehicle, I don't know anyone who'd care much about some ratings.
HIs reviews are too inconsistent. Sometimes he will talk about the audio system and play some music and sometimes, as in this video, he doesn't even mention the audio system nor give his opinion on it. Annoying.
@@richardsanders3750I went through their comment history. They said they had a 2016 Sentra SV with the CVT. I don’t blame them for saying that. Nissan is somewhat trying to improve their image after the JATCO disaster. I mean, Toyota and Honda use CVTs and they’re fine. Was, or rather is, Nissan so incompetent that they couldn’t improve their CVT?
oh my god, i absolutely love the interior with no gloss black bs
I appreciate the effort you put into developing these reviews, really, great job.
I think the Grand Highlander Hybrid is about the best in class.
Unfortunately it is about 12 month delay.

@@Carfan678This was going to be my next car until I saw that! How disappointing!! My 22 small Tucson would hold up better in a crash
It's disappointing that it only got an Acceptable rating on small offset crash test.

Yeah unfortunately with Toyota they do the bare minimum to get a Good rating on crash tests. They didn’t do enough here LOL
Hopefully they fix it on newer-made Grand Highlanders.
@Jonathan-mp32xokay Koreaboo
@Jonathan-mp32xlike dude, you just cannot compare cars like that
Amazing interior, Toyota nailed it

Beautiful steering wheel design

Zero Gloss/Piano Black, why more car manufacturers don't think about that is mind boggling

I have a 1992 chevy suburban
I’m really disappointed you haven’t reviewed a Tie Fighter or X Wing ….
Ah Toyota... where the Grand Highlander looks more like a "Grand Rav4" and where the Corolla Cross looks like a mini regular highlander.
Generally reliable, but definitely not the most stylish cars.

Does this Grand Highlander or the Lexus TX have a softer/smoother ride quality?
@Jonathan-mp32xnot the 500h f sport. Wheels are too big and adaptive suspension apparently is tuned too harsh for every day driving.

As much as I like Toyota, I'd take a lightly used MDX over this.

I will be financing one for my wife and the kids we need a family vehicle and this is everything we need in a suv
Ngl I kinda prefer the other 2021 to 2022 Highlander Hybrid/Platinum/Limited. I’ve seen some used ones around the $30k - $40k price range.
Like the vehicle, but the engine noise is intrusive for a daily driver.
I have the GH with 2.4 as my daily driver. Put it on eco mode and just drive normal and I don't hear any engine noise at all.
Would prefer 3 middle seats over the pilot seat
I hate the drivers area of most Toyotas, they put massive centre consoles there so bigger guys (I’m 6’2” and 240lbs) feel constrained… I liked the old vans and trucks where you could spread out and have plenty of room
How is the cabin noise? Is it loud do you hear wind noise like other Toyota vehicles or quite?
Who puts a 4cylender turbo in a big ass suv like really

With a traditional automatic no eCVT
I would like to know when is the moment of replacing the tires.
Isn’t it too noisy?
Does this have a good Lane keep assist for highway driving like Hyundai and Kia?
I saw one in Lagos State, Nigeria... It was Wow❤
Wish they have affordable version 50k a lot

let me ask you a question. I do have GH limited . how can I turn on the flashing day time running light on the car like it in the video
It's not flashing, It's the camera he is using...
I liked so much the 90´s trucks because they were a lot of space inside.
should be called GrandRav 4
I do genuinely think they should've just replaced the regular highlander with this one
How in the world is this gh limited the same money as an exploder active?!?!? No wonder these things are impossible to get
I sware , all this is really funny.
Lane centering that ping pongs is inexcusable these days. 😢
Definitely would never buy a Gas model of this, Hybrid is the only trim worth buying.
This or the new chevy traverse which I think is the best mid size suv
