I think most people are interested in/attracted to the high notes and belting. There are great performances that aren't all about that. Here's a recommendation: check out Jaya and KZ Tandingan singing "Feeling Good." Their artistry will blow you away.
Also, I don't know if you have any trans friends, but although all the videos still use his dead name, his name is Jake Zyrus and his pronouns are he/him. I understand it can be hard to remember (I forget a lot with friends), but a way that helps me to remember: you wouldn't look at vids of Jennifer Aniston and call her "Mrs. Brad Pitt" even if she was during the time of the video. Does that make sense?
