    Some thoughts - You don't need to rotate the safety to fully engage it - if you do a half or quarter turn, it prevents the action from being fired.
    Also, vs an AR-15, the action on these do NOT get dirty at all. The bolt face get's a bit of carbon, but after 100-200 round sessions, the entire rear assembly is as clean as my last cleaning. To that point, the cleaning kit, as you mentioned, thing is just phenomenal.
    As for your PMags - if you file the magwell where the spine is, you can get them to fit.

      Considering that the current US president is Anti Second Amendment, and recently banned the banned import of Russian made AK style rifles and AK shot guns by executive order, and a few years ago Banned the M1 garands from South Korea from coming back to the US, its highly doubtful he will lift any arms embargo, to get that done, the US need a pro gun Republican President

    Ive had my t97 for about 2 years and been casually shooting it. Yeah the reloads are a bit slow but I've been able to do it in 3 seconds with a bit of practice. I think for a non restricted rifle it's a great option

      Write to Trump, legally speaking the import ban was an executive action thus in theory Trump could abolish it with a single signature.

    I have an airsoft Real Sword version of this, and my god this gun is so comfortable. Honestly China must be stepping up its game cause cutting corners with this rifle is so easy. Stock feels kinda small for my shoulders but damn its comfy and looks unique since everyone else has either Ak74 or M4.

    Thanks for the review. Was kinda wondering about this one (5.56) being non-restricted and all. Was "hoping" to save for a Tavor, but, the price really holds me back from pulling the trigger on that buy. Seeing as the Type 97 takes the LAR mags as well as Beuwolf pretty much settles my mind. Can't always get what you want, but, you can get damn close......

    • @Huntinggearguy
      @Huntinggearguy  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Tavor is awesome, but I can't say it's 2.5 times better than a T97. Price matters.

  • @LFooger

    Are you planning on adding the new lower t97.ca just came out with? Supposedly it improves the safety/mag release locations and has a better trigger.

  • @kalvinburnett
    @kalvinburnett 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi, very nice review. Just wondering what kind of modifications have you done to your magwell, since mine mis-feed sometimes, and the mags do not drop free.

  • @TRaTSeRiF
    @TRaTSeRiF 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    Very nice rifle and with the new Flat Top Upper by m14.ca, it will become a much more credible coyote gun for an extra $300. I found that the bolt hold-open tongue was a bit too long and would sometimes strip a rd from the mag and tilt it up so the bullet would jam into the casing as the bolt tried to cycle it, but trimming down the tongue so it clears the back of the casing but can still be pushed by the follower seems to have fixed that (range test pending).

      Nice! Is that the one with a bdc? I'll catch the link on CGN for sure lol For now I'm rockin' a TRS-25 on a CanAm carry handle mount rail. Don't wanna put too much money into a gun I might not be able to shoot where I'm going (leaving Canada for a while). If they legalize semiauto rifles (30% chance), then I'm calling Frank @ m14.ca and letting him have his way with my Visa card ;) If not, a couple extra LAR mags and some plates to do a bit of 3gun will be about it.

  • @chiefkalif9675
    @chiefkalif9675 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    Will slapping it really hard drop the bolt? I know I can do that with an M4 whenever no one else is looking. It sounds like a good, thorough review for an... above average, I think is the impression I'm getting, rifle. Sounds like the biggest downfalls are how hard it is to load, lock, and change the safety.
    I also saw your assembly video. I like how you don't have to separate the lower and upper receivers and "shotgun" the rifle in order to pull the bolt out like with the M4, and how easy it looks to take the trigger assembly out compared to the M4. It does look overall more complicated though. I think I read that you've never had a stoppage, but does it seem like fixing a jam would be easy enough, either by racking the bolt or having to break down the rifle? And what about routine maintenance? How easy is it to clean? I imagine that with the completely plastic or carbon fiber, or whatever that frame is, it would be pretty easy.
    Also, can you just order the parts for the rifle separately, or will they only ship complete rifles?

    • @Huntinggearguy
      @Huntinggearguy  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Whew, there's a few questions there. I'll try to answer them in order.
      1. I can't slap the bolt hard enough to get it to drop, but it's not out of the realm of possibility.
      2. I find breaking down an M4 to be much easier: pull a pin, pull the charging handle and BCG, and get scrubbing. The T97 bolt and action as a whole stays wayyy cleaner though, since the piston is up at the front. I've got a photo comparing cleaning sessions here: facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=465449376888627&set=a.217175415049359.36382.210842792349288&type=1&stream_ref=10 Suffice to say, the T97 stays much cleaner than the M4.
      3. Fixing a jam on the T97 is harder than the M4 due to the bolt being rearward and feeling like you need 3 hands. It's harder to inspect due to the location too.
      4. I believe North Sylva was bringing in parts kits, but am unsure as to availability. There's not much to break on them though. Bolt is very similar to an AK bolt: a very rugged design. All moving parts are pretty beefy. Maybe you could break the plastic top handle if you threw it down a mountain.

      @chiefkalif9675 10 ปีที่แล้ว

  • @johndolson3919
    @johndolson3919 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great video. Though, in my opinion, you should not compare compare it with the AR. You have mentioned the Tavor. If compared to it I am sure the T97 would go down in flames. I have handled both at P&D myself. Money does make the difference. Holding out for Tavor!

    • @Huntinggearguy
      @Huntinggearguy  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Working on a review of the Tavor right now! It is a better, more ergonomic rifle, but it's also 2.5X the price of a T97.

    • @chiefkalif9675
      @chiefkalif9675 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Type-95 is the military version.
      The difference is that the 95 fires a 5.8×42mm round while the 97 fires a 5.56 or 7.62mm round.

      The Hunting Gear Guy awesome thank you. You have a lot of content to go through, and Im easily distracted. So far I love your channel, very nice editing and polish. Excellent lighting for your indoor videos. My only complaint is that you dont show footage of your operation of the weapon in every video. The cleaning videos are absolutely great. You could run, your cleaning operation and audio commentary as a short video cut over a muted shooting segment. Even now with youtube tools you could add that to previous videos and see how folks react. Generate new interest in rewatching your videos.

    • @hendrysugianto4703

      no... the replacement of QBZ-95 is QBZ-95-1

    • @felixuokk
      @felixuokk 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are right The QBZ-95-1 is designed with a better safe and mag release. They replaced a lot of QBZ-95 with the newer 95-1. But troopers still do not like the 95 gun. That's when they developed QBZ03. world.guns.ru/assault/ch/type-03--qbz-03-e.html

    • @burkustroniak8519
      @burkustroniak8519 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Felix Wong From what I can find they're still sticking with the QBZ-95-1 for the bulk of the army. Units that are highly mobile/lightweight (marines, airborne infantry) or more familiar with legacy systems like the Type 56/81 (second line, militia, border patrol) are issued with the new QBZ-03.

    I am more than a little confused by the canadian restricted non restricted, Does know of a site that breaks is down a bit. I don't live in north america at the mo, but from the few canadian online gun stores that I have checked out the same guns seem to be in the the restricted as the non restricted. I would have assumed that this gun would be in in the restricted because of its shortness, for example a colt m4 same load is restricted.

    • @Huntinggearguy
      @Huntinggearguy  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It doesn't make a heck of a lot of sense. AR15's are restricted by name, barrel length doesn't matter. Most other semi auto rifles with longer than 18.5" barrels are non restricted. Any semi auto shorter than 18.5" is restricted.

    • @augustussutton2379
      @augustussutton2379 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It must be working, 25 guns per 100 people and you guys have a lower gun death level than here where self loading rifles are not yet legal and handguns have only been legal for just over a decade. In case you were wondering here is Ireland and almost all of the shootings are related to drug gangs or terrorists.
      Question do many people in Canada bother to get a restricted licence because here I only know one person who's even bothered getting a pistol.

    Did they export the updated version with the safety closer to the trigger?
    The mag release looks really different from the QBZ 95; it's like an F2000 on the 95.

    • @Huntinggearguy
      @Huntinggearguy  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      A55tech The QBZ95 uses a more AK-style rock and lock mag, whereas this one is designed around the STANAG system. We haven't got the updated version here in Canada yet but if we do, I'll probably get one.

    • @a55tech

    you actually have to sleep with this weapon to function it at its max ability. Like most soldiers in the chinese army reload this gun ridiculously quick, and can flick the safety switch with their eyes closed instantly. its so if an american picks up the gun, they'll have a shit time handling the weapon

    • @Xentradi97
      @Xentradi97 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pfftt, that's an idiotic nationalistic argument. Like US force soldiers don't get familiarize with their weapon enough to use it in their sleep especially those who are prof soldiers. And very few armed forces in the world have a combat experience and training methods that US army has. And yes the shortcoming of any weapons can be overcome by user using and practicing on the weapon. But ultimately better-designed quality weapon will have an upper hand.

    • @koaiaknl7013
      @koaiaknl7013 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Xentradi97 America doesn't have the best training there's many other countries with harder training and more skill men in service America has the benefit of technology and a massive air force and navy to back up their army China north Korea and isreal has some of the most crazy skilled men in the world in terms of combat capacity but America is always going to have the best gear or as close to the best as possible and u should consider the fact that America is a nation where people volunteer so moreal is high where in other nations people r only trading hard to get some rice or noodles or just food in general it's obvious that no nation will have the best soilders for long as military quality changes from day to day

    You Are a Pro My friend! You should have your own TV SHOW! I knew nothing about the gas tube settings! What would happen if I left it at 0? Also just curious what can you recommend about the Robinson Armament XCR-L Micro Pistol .223 10 Round Magazin

    • @Huntinggearguy
      @Huntinggearguy  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      ColeGartner If you leave the gas piston setting at 0, it just won't eject the brass. Maybe useful if you reload your ammo and don't want the rifle to send empty cases into the next county. I have used LAR-15 mags in the T97, and they worked well. Nice and compact in the rifle. Here's what the T97 looks like with a 10 round mag inserted: www.huntinggearguy.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/10-round-mag.jpg

      ColeGartner Slide the case rim from a fired 223 into the "claw" part of the gas adjustment piece and you should be able to easily use the case to lever the thing between the settings. The detent is spring loaded, so you need to rock it back to move it between positions. It should snap into place and not want to move once it's correctly in position. I'd go for position 1.

    Hi, I try mine for the first time and the rifle seem to be only like when I load it when the bolt is close. Almost impossible to load with the bolt hold open, do you know what can cause this ? I try a lot of different brand mag but same result.

    • @Huntinggearguy

      That's odd. When you say it won't load, are you saying the mag won't seat? It might be that the mag hold open tab is a bit long and is binding on the bullets when you have the bolt open. That's where I'd look. Are the magazines tight when they fit in the magwell, or do they have a bit of room?

    • @PoliceTacticalUnit
      @PoliceTacticalUnit 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Some of the mag seat some not but when the mag seat first round of the mag almost come off the mag then I pull the charging handle and nothing happen. It's maybe the mag hold open part that is too long, is there a way to remove this part or I should fill it a little bit ?

    • @PoliceTacticalUnit
      @PoliceTacticalUnit 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      And the mag fit good to the magwell, I don't try the mag that were too tight.

    whats the point of covering the serial number??

    • @Huntinggearguy
      @Huntinggearguy  10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I've seen some people do it and I thought there must be a reason.

    • @Drownedinblood
      @Drownedinblood 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Hunting Gear Guy There are some in the U.S. who are paranoid and anti-registration possibly anti-gov. So they cover up serials because they think there is somebody sitting down and actually watching their video and marking down serial number, and might just go and confiscate them whenever it feels like it.

    • @Drownedinblood
      @Drownedinblood 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      alchemist889 Well this will be the first I've heard of this possibly happening. I would think a quick check of your id and registered firearms would show you're legit if anything arises.

    • @EvanHT

    Norinco is banned from the United States because they tried to smuggle guided missiles in, not because of politics.
    The handguns they make are pretty decent.

  • @stg5ive
    @stg5ive 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    This should be selling at the 600-700 dollar price point rather than the 1000 dollar price point it's currently at. It seems like a decent rifle, though.

    • @Huntinggearguy
      @Huntinggearguy  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Within its category, NR semi auto 223, there are only a few competitors, and they're all around the same price point: about $1000. The really adaptive NR 223 rifles like the Tavor, ACR, XCR, etc, are all $2500-ish.

    the type 95 the Chinese military uses have a much easier mag change. I think they intentionally made it harder for civilian use.

    • @Huntinggearguy
      @Huntinggearguy  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Truthseeker The Chinese army uses a rock and lock mag, which is fine on the QBZ95. On the T97, it uses a grafted on STANAG magwell and they didn't put any design into relocating the release.

    • @fludblud
      @fludblud 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Having held the Type 95, I found the rock and lock mag change on is actually far harder to do on a bullpup unlike the STANAG magwell where the magazine just slides in.
      This is compounded by the curvature of the 5.8 magazine which offers a very low margin of movement for the magazine before it hits the grip just a few inches in front.

    • @edwardtang1977
      @edwardtang1977 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      agreed. Not perfect. Requires practice. I have tried them out in Beijing ,too. But it is not at an odd place like the export versions. The BB gun toy version also places the button at an odd place. My only guess is they don't want a rifle that has easy mag change for civilians.

      AK 74's and 47's are illegal in Canada, The T-97 is one of a few 5.56 gun that we can take around relatively freely. AR-15's we can only have at home's (super locked up) or at a range. So if I could id go with a AK-74 too but.....have to settle in Canada.

    • @Huntinggearguy
      @Huntinggearguy  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I take the AK74 and T97 as apples and oranges because the use profiles of a bullpup and regular length rifle are pretty different. A better upper end comparison against the T97 would be the Tavor.

      yan zhang 欢迎. Don't forget that we can use LAR-15 and Beowulf mags in rifles like these to legally increase capacity. SFRC has a pre-sale on some very inexpensive metal 50 beowulf magazines. I also have a review on the T97 in Chinese: www.huntinggearguy.com/rifle-reviews/%E8%90%9D%E8%8E%89%E6%8E%A7t97%E8%AF%84%E8%AE%BA/

    • @Huntinggearguy
      @Huntinggearguy  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's because it IS a QBZ95, just in 5.56, for STANAG mags, and semi automatic.

    • @Huntinggearguy
      @Huntinggearguy  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      kyler noe Don't sweat it, Norinco weapons being copied is a pretty safe bet. They make quite a few guns whose copyrights have expired. That said, in the world of guns, copying or licensing different designs is pretty common. The current Canadian service rifle is the C7, a copy of the M16. That's the story for more countries than it isn't.

    • @Huntinggearguy
      @Huntinggearguy  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** are you talking QBZ95 or QBZ95-1? The magwell is undoubtedly better on the QBZ, and the QBZ-1 has a better safety location as well.
