I stopped doing DIYs. I'm neurodivergent and I need to simplify my routine because I only have so many spoons in a day. DIYs are extra work without the benefits I see instantly with commercially manufactured store-bought products. My trichologists are also not a fan of DIYs either. So eat my Avocados now. Lol!

For me, it was chasing after the next best, product or regimen instead of finding products and a regimen that worked for my hair and sticking with it. I would try every new fad ingredient; rice water, the latest oil found in the forest of some lost, indigenous nation, you name it, I would try it. I wasted a lot of money and time. Now I have my core products and a healthy haircare routine and I’m seeing consistent progress.

Inflammation was a significant factor in hindering the growth of my hair. I discovered that eliminating sugar made a noticeable difference. By including scalp massages, regular trims, and increasing my water intake, I saw a vast improvement in my hair growth.

Getting in your nutrients really does accelerate your growth. When I was consistently getting in my greens, and being mindful of my protein intake, my hair grew so fast. The downside was having to shave more often.

The one thing that was not helping my hair was keeping it in a shrunken state. I would never stretch it and I had so many single strand knots. Also I did not keep a good hair cutting routine, deep conditioning, or protein treatments. Now I straighten my hair every 2 weeks, deep condition, protein treatments and bond builders as needed, and keep a hair cutting schedule. I love the kinky/coily hair but could not maintain my hair health and it became such a chore. Now I really enjoy my routine.❤

I found using a detangling brush was not good for my hair. I use a wide tooth comb, along with moisturizing products, to detangle and comb through my hair. A big difference for me.

@@OhMyMercifulGod After trail and error, I use the LOC method to detangle and to put some moisture into my hair strands. I use a liquid leave in for the L, and an oil/oils for the O. Interestingly, I found that the C cannot be water based. I use a light pomade product to "seal in the moisture". I usually keep my hair in two strand twist and re-moisturize about once or twice a week.

Totally share in the noy washing hair which led into build up and dryness, the second one is pulling my hair back all the time and wearing it in a bun. I would sometimes have dreadlocks underneath the surface, it got just that bad. I got my hair cut for my son's wedding last month, because there was so much damage and I did not know what to do about a hairstyle. So she did something called a steam and flatiron my hair and it has lasted and now I am scared to revert it back because it might be so short I won't know what to do with it. And it probably bad that I have kept it straight for this long but I love set hair at night with 2 rod curler and put on a satin cap.
I am in my 60s and with medications and just the slow growth, I will probably never achieve a thick health mane of hair at this rate.
Thanks for sharing and blessings to you and all in the days to come.

I would suggest going to get your blood works done to find out if you’re lacking in any kind of vitamins or nutrients. Then seek professional help like a trichologist or dermatologist for further checks as they will be able to best advise you on your next steps. Don’t wait for it to get worse Like I did. If you don’t do something now it may get worse as mine has! I went to see a trichologist this year and found that I have CCCA a form of alopecia and currently on treatment. I wish I had gone to a professional as soon as I noticed the thinning instead of thinking I could fix it. So seek a professional help if you can afford it 😊
