- In this Microsoft Access tutorial I'm going to teach you how to use one database to open another. We can effectively create a database switchboard which is a database that opens other databases. We'll also see how ChatGPT handles this issue.
Jan from Aurora, Colorado (a Gold Member) asks: I've got two separate Microsoft Access databases that I have to work with. One contains my customers and the sales guys have to use it. The other includes mostly accounting information and my list of vendors and such. The issue is that sometimes the sales guys have to look at the vendor information, and I of course need to use both databases. I don't want to merge these into one database as it's very complicated. Is there a way to just click a button and switch to the other database?
Silver Members and up get access to an Extended Cut of this video. Members will learn how to make a list box containing your database files and launch them that way instead of hard coding them into buttons. We can also use this technique with other objects too and not just database files. You can open spreadsheets, documents, and more.

Welcome
Absolutely love this!
Sweet
Richard, you are always one step ahead of my questions. >looks around for hidden microphone or camera... Does deep scan of computer for RichardRossReporting_virus..." ROFL!!!
Shhhhh.... they're watching.
This is great but what I am curious about is, it is possible to create main menu/Database Launcher which you log in to and then retain the username and accesses when you open the other databases.
Wounderful.... Thanks..!
Welcome
I have double and triple checked my hyperlink and it is correct. However, I click the button, get the security warning, click yes, and then get "an unexpected error has occurred" and the application does not open. Any ideas?

Edit: to select "Copy as path"
[SHFT] + right click - or - [context menu button] on the file, will then automatically copy the the full link from drive letter to the end of the file extension. When you paste, you won't be adding, or missing characters, reducing errors. 🤔😁
Or right click on the file and choose "Copy as path", then pasteing it in the code builder window.
That "copy as path" trick is new to me. They must have added it to a recent version of Windows. Thanks for the tip!
@@599CD I use it in Windows 8.1, so not new, just extremely, and very rarely known and used. There's a label for the copy process as "Copy as path", just below the halfway point that shows up.
@@colbywolford which is what I described, not realizing that I left out the title: "Copy as path", in my original response above. 🤫🤔😁
