Coyote vs. Acme is an American comedy film directed by Dave Green and written by Samy Burch from a story by Burch, James Gunn (who also served as a producer), and Jeremy Slater. Combining live-action and animation, the film is based on the character Wile E. Coyote and the Acme Corporation from the Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies series of cartoons, and the 1990 magazine article of the same name originally published in The New Yorker by Ian Frazier. Produced by Warner Bros. Pictures Animation, the film's cast includes John Cena, Will Forte, Lana Condor, and the voice of Eric Bauza. On November 9, 2023, Warner Bros. Pictures announced that the film had been shelved and would not be released due to a $30 million tax write-down, being the third film from the company to meet such a fate after Batgirl and Scoob! Holiday Haunt. However, the studio reversed their decision a few days later following public backlash, and permitted the filmmakers to shop the film to other distributors including Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Apple. I love how people immediately got mad at James Gunn for not talking about it and mere hours later had to eat crow because James Gunn SAVED the damn thing
They love to blame him for everything don't they? Jesus, talk about idiocy.
And that's why you have to value patience. Action is good but don't go off the handle all the time.
I dislike Gunn as much as the nxt guy but credit where credit is do... Good job James
@@ionicreviewswait why do you dislike James Gunn?
@@cattledogandstaffy mostly cause he half assing the DC reboot and dont agree with some of the creative choices he makes
Fun Fact: ‘Looney Tunes Back in Action’ turns 20 today.
Whoaaa
20 years since Daffy was on the front page under the headline "DUCK NAKED!"
Yep 🥳
Damn... 😢
I’m gonna watch it then!
Warner has WAAAYYY too many good projects that have been scrapped all for tax right off purposes. Half of the content they had would’ve been great to showcase from this summer til next fall given the strikes and the current media drought we’re facing. I’m glad this project is getting saved, hopefully other ones will be saved too!!
What stuff I gotta know!
You can’t, I repeat, you CAN’T keep Wile E Coyote down!! Homie always bounces back!
Heck ya man love that dude.
This didn’t age well did it
I don't know how Zaslev thought there would be no repercussions for killing movies. How he couldn't know how filmmakers would react. Why would anyone want to work for him if they have no idea if their work would even be seen.
How did Zaslev think there'd be no repercussions to anything he did with the other CEO's this year for that matter? Disney's year was'nt great either but at least they can still see the way out of the pit, Warner brothers is buried so far down they could feel heat from the earth's core.
@@Cloud-dt6xbwell it helps that a lot of the decisions this year were done to fix the mistakes Chapek made
I have admired Wil E. for years for his deterimination and resilience. No matter how many times he falls, he gets back up. I know he’s the designated bad guy, but I want to see him win!
Ah but if you destroy your nemesis, you destroy yourself. Or so I've heard.
It’s crazy how this happened in a couple of days, happy us and the filmmakers fought to get this movie released
The fight isn’t over yet.
@@spongeintheshoe sadly
@@spongeintheshoe The fight is absolutely 100% over.
@@teruienages962 Unless someone saved a copy and leaks it online.
I LOVE how Andre mentions it in a related video, and suddenly, the Urkel Christmas movie is hitting digital next week. He legitimately created a Jaleel White Summoning C-Urkel. 😂
It's wonderful seeing these Looney Tunes movies get a second chance! Obviously this getting sold to other studios is a huge win, but also there is another movie called The Day the Earth Blew Up that was based off of the new Looney Tunes Cartoons starring Porky and Daffy was also originally shelved for tax purposes, but then a couple weeks ago, GFM Animation acquired the film, sold it to the American Film Market and is gonna be released in IN THEATERS, during the second quarter of next year!
SAY WHAT!?!?🤩🤩🤩🤩
And oddly enough, despite their film appearance in the Space Jam movies and Back In Action, this is going to be the Looney Tunes very first full-length animated feature film in theaters. Because the first three movies were a cross with live-action
I think you hit it exactly, Warner brothers had the gall to do this within a day after the strike ended and assumed it would'nt piss off any of the creatives who are still riding off the fury built up from the strikes.
I'm glad that "The Day the Earth Blew Up" (The Looney Tunes Cartoons movie) was able to escape most of this corporate monkey business. It's actually going to be distributed to theaters!
After the backlash from filmmakers on social media and many directors backing out from making films with them because of this dumb decision, there’s a rumor that Warner Bros has reversed its decision on this movie and will be shopping it to other streaming services. So it sounds like we will get to see this movie hopefully. 😅
Not a rumor- it is confirmed!
Did you not watch the Video?
Dude how could you not love wile e coyote and roadrunner, it was some of Chuck Jones best work
I love the fact that everyone has called the major Bs that was Zaslav initial decision to write of this film.
I heard that a Congressman from Texas has proposed that the Government investigate for antitrust violations. And I support this! Warner Bros needs to learn a lesson. And Wil E. deserves a win!
They really pulled a 180 on us 💀
the fact they have no confidence in Looney Tunes, one of their most celebrated brands that goes back decades- whose star character is on their fricken logo when movies start- says something
the best way to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Looney tunes back in action
The movie wasn't almost finished, it was picture-locked and rated by the MPA.
Andre, you brought the Urkel movie back into existence just by talking about it. I knew it'd happen.
there should be a law that if you shelf a project for tax reasons that it gets put into the public domain.
If Disney aquired the distribution rights, I think Roger Rabbit may need to cameo as it would be the first project since his film that both rights holders would be involved.
Also this situation apparently caught the eye of a government congressman who called for a federal investigation to WB 😬
Wait what??
@@lsebastian9086It's true. This situation has gone too far. WB done messed up BIG time
@@billybugentertainment Thats not even close to anything resembling true.....Jesus why do people feel the need to make things up. No NOBODY called for some investigation into WB, it has nothing to do with the government nor would it, PROTIP: things that get written of for a tax write-off, yeah THEY ALREADY KNOW ABOUT IT WHEN IT HAPPENS....To release something shelved they have to pay back the money they were given for the write off....
People need to have even a basic knowledge of what they hell they're talking about before they decide to make things up
@@billybugentertainment Oh dang that is pretty bad
Damn. Looney Tunes are VERY serious business.
I’m kind of hoping that they bring back Steve Martin to play the Evil Head of the Acme Corporation again. That would be perfect.
John Cena is playing the head of Acme in this.
@@dragonsword8129 I thought he was playing the lawyer
@@tacksgmvs2070no Will Forte is the lawyer
I'm glad that Coyote vs. Acme is getting a 2nd chance.
I'm hoping Prime or Netflix (or Disney+) buys the movie because coming from the behind the scenes images I saw on Twitter, it looks very fun.
If they even managed to get it into theaters as well, I'll gladly go & see it.
Also, if Wile E. can get a chance, then HOPEFULLY Batgirl can as well.
Great video, Andre.
Warner Bros still owns the character
Different situation. Batgirl is buried and never being seen or WBD faces legal issues.
The fact that they could save the film and did shocked me because I was sure after it's a tax write-off you just can't do that, then again I also didn't know they could do that for movies that are already done so who knows maybe there is hope for bad girl or they can just have the Gang reshoot the whole thing if they're no too upset
My bet will be Amazon.
@@flashtheshapeshafter I think they were PLANNING on writing it off for taxes, but since the year hasn't ended, it hasnt been finalized yet, and they can backtrack and still release it or sell it. Batgirl was written off years ago so it legally cant be undone. They still own the character and can make a different Batgirl movie, but the one that was already made cannot be shown or sold.
This actually sounds like a solid idea. Leave it to WB to ignore a good thing and showcase garbage.
Edit: posted before finishing the video. Hopefully this will slingshot the movie into spotlight.
I definitely hope Amazon gets it, considering that they saved Batman: Caped Crusader, it can only be a matter of time that Coyote vs Acme gets confirmed for Prime Video. Not only that, but highlighting the great relationship between WB and MGM, because here in Latin America, Prime Video has nearly all the MonsterVerse and DCEU movies as well as WB's film slate of 2021, and top marquee shows like Two And A Half Men, The Mentalist and Smallville, so hopefully all stars can be alligned for Coyote vs Acme to make its debut on Prime Video.
But yeah Andre, you took the words right out of my mouth, the Looney Tunes are and will always be amazing 🎉🎉. Looney Tunes Cartoons has been the sh9t 😎, The Looney Tunes Show a huge G.O.A.T. that deserved better, and Wabbit/New Looney Tunes was actually very funny and underappreciated as well. They deserve more respect ✊🏻✊🏻
A weird thing about WBD canning projects is also what they decided to release.
Like instead of Scoob, we got Velma.
Also Batgirl could have been good or it could have been very bad, but probably Not Criminally Bad unlike The Flash staring Ezra "YA WANA FIGHT!" Miller
Well with batgirl i don’t know, and with scoob well.
Fun Fact: Will Forte who voiced Tyler Cutebiker from Gravity Falls is going to be in Coyote vs Acme and he plays the lawyer for Wile E. Coyote
Oh that's fantastic, I was wondering how they're going to handle him talking I love the whole genius bit
You mean Will Forte?
@@Jungoguy
Yes, probably should have said that 😅
@@flashtheshapeshafterhonestly I’m kinda hoping they reference the Super Genius bit, like imagine near the end they want Wile E to make a statement against Acme and he ends up doing a whole eloquent and profound speech about his life, ambitions and how Acme have ruined it and he does it all in that voice
The reason why the Industry was PISSED, is Zaslav was and continues to remove cartoon shows from HBO Max and write it as a tax write off. Leaving mostly only Velma on that service. That and the Actors strike ending and Zaslav pulling this stupid move was the last straw.
I really hope the great shows they do have (Primal, unicorn warriors eternal, young love, Scavengers Reign) don't get canned. Those shows didn't get as nearly as much attention as Velma
Bro if the leaders of SAG fought for actors' rights with just a fraction of the passion that you have for Scooby Doo, Urkel, Looney Tunes, etc. that strike would not have lasted 72 hours!
Once again studios keep underestimating animation, thinking it’s “just for kids”. Imagine Disney releasing the movie and not only that but it does well, would pay to see the face of a studio head for making the dumb decision of letting the movie slip through their fingers 😂
Shelving a completed film, that has been screen tested with actual audiences, Yeah; I would imagine that would be bad for business!!!
BOUT damn time Willie deserve so love and he needs a win. Coyote lovs
Acme has literally made millions off of Wile Coyote.😂😅
Now after this, a congressman wants the studio to be investigated.
Yikes.
Wait is that true cause that'd be hillarious.
Oh goody!😈
@Cloud-dt6xb Yep, all true.
Variety and The Hollywood Reporter just covered it hours ago.
@@tonymata8070 Just saw for myself and it's glorious. This tax write off crap was setting a very bad mindset that will hopefully stop now that the government's put it's foot down.
Looks like Zaslav F'd around and found out.😂😂😂
Yes, please talk about the Gremlins Secret Of The Mogwai show. That was surprisingly good. It took me an episode or two to get used to the art style though. And they even had an episode where they managed to make those goofy Chinese hopping vampires seem threatening! That alone is impressive!
Fingers crossed we'll see the Batgirl movie somewhere sometime
Disney version of Coyote vs. Acme. The "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?" sequel that no one anticipated.
Please! I need to see Wily get his justice against ACME.
I love that you finally can talk about anything in the industry again
The minute I heard this news, I was on my work lunch break and I was SO PISSED. It was literally all I could talk about on my ride home with my sister's husband (who incidentally also works as a cameraman for the entertainment industry).
Now that there's a second chance for "Coyote vs. Acme", I hope Warner Bros. FINALLY gets the memo that these characters are important to the entertainment industry, the art of comedy, and what basically put them on the map!
Also, I hope that some day Andre gets his Urkel Christmas Special.
I also wanna see this Coyote Vs Acme movie.
Release this movie already !
Great video Andre and take care and stay safe 👍.
Don't forget. In Living Color did this premiss too.
Elmer Fudd was Will E. Coyote's lawyer, "because Wiley is a dog's name, and I am not a dog!""
I have no idea why I wasn't recommended any of your videos for years despite being subscribed to you, glad to see you rec'd again
Wile E. Coyote is tied with the Tazmanian Devil as my favorite Looney Tune, so seeing everyone back this movie and begging for its release makes me feel all warm inside
Hell Bugs Bunny is the mascot of Warner Bros., and there is no way you can deny it. I will buy it if it comes out on home video.
Mad props for the Night Court clip.
Fun fact: Looney Tunes Back in Action premiered on Nov. 14, 2003 - 20 years to the day this video aired.
Watching this after your Urkel Christmas reaction is such a trip. I guess you really did do that.
I was kinda hoping the movie would have been anonymously dropped on Twitter, like Scooby Doo & Krypto Too was 😅
Coyote vs. Acme to get a new distributor and eventually an official trailer
I think everybody can understand why the second Scoob movie got cancelled. The first Scoob sucks
Looney Tunes back in action is awesome! I prefer it to space jam by a lot! Glad you mentioned it.
I could totally see the movie ending up on Hulu in the US, but on Disney+ everywhere else 😂
Warner Bros just dropped a trailer for the Urkel Christmas movie. They heard you, it's a Christmas miracle
This is the first time I've heard about this project, and it's interesting because not only are Roadrunner and Wile E. MY favorite Tunes, but I finally got to show my kids some classic Tunes shorts for the first time and Coyote and Roadrunner shorts are far and away THEIR favorite.
This video is so informative AND passionate, Andre. You make some excellent points. I love the idea of Disney releasing ‘Coyote vs. Acme’ on Disney+!
You do know that's impossible, don't you?🤨
2:02 I laughed when you played his theme song from wwe, 😂😂😂😂.
Disney could also pick it up and throw in some Marvel characters and give us the closest DC & Marvel movie we know we can't have.
Nah, this movie is already finished so it won't happen.
If this is how we get Bugs and Mickey back on screen together again, well that’s a WILD story for the history books.
~_~
Was kinda hoping the movie was going to feature "Wile E. Coyote, Super Genius" who went up against Bugs Bunny. This still works.
7:22 Now I want that Disney x Cartoon Network/Warner Bros crossover. Daffy meeting Donald, Bugs meeting Mickey... pleeeease!
Wait...was there SERIOUSLY a Wile E. Coyote cameo in an episode of Night Court?!?? lmaooo
THANK YOU for that Night Court bit..... classic
Surprised you haven’t done a video on how The Looney Tunes has been airing on METV for a couple years now.
Omg, this is such an awesome idea for a Wile. E Coyote story and I can't wait to see it! I really hope they release it sooner rather than later... (Aaaasand I hope they don't make him talk.)
I have missed black nerd rants SO MUCH!! This video was so great to watch.
4:01 - The future has been predicted.
Well, that didn’t age well.
Warner Bros. better release Coyote Vs Acme soon! We NEED to see this! I need to see this! I can’t wait to see this whenever it’ll come out!
1:04 - interesting coincidence that you post this video on the exact day of Back in Action's 20th anniversary. Now I gotta go watch that movie.
"Disney buys WB" is the head line were I'll toss up my hands and quit.
Honestly WB & Disney TOONS/TUNES should have done a one off short film crossover since they were both on their 100th Anniversary as lost sudo Roger Rabbit Short Film of sorts.
Loved the split second return of Black Nerd Rants near the end there.
They have announced that Coyote Vs Acme will be releasing in 2024
It's also a Saturday Night Live segment, IIRC
Yes I finally found someone else who like looney tunes back in action that movie that movie is totally underrated.
I can't for the life of me figure out the business model of selling your signature content to your competitor. I mean I can see sony doing that even though they have a streaming service that no one knows about but WARNER BROTHERS?! Make it make sense. I grew up on looney tunes but as much as this seems interesting I'm unsure if I'd be hyped to see it if it ever comes out. But I live your enthusiasm Andre. ❤
They saying that 2-D “The Day The Earth Blew Up” Looney Tunes movie is going to theaters, tho. 👀 So let’s hope they leave that alone lol.
I'm so glad to see your videos again!!!!! I missed you, BN!
As for Coyote vs. Acme, *shut up and take my money!!!!!* 😁 I watched Coyote, Road Runner and all the Looney Tunes gang my entire life. And now that I've been in law for over 30 years, I would LOVE to see an actual movie with Coyote because *he has a **_VERY_** strong case against ACME!* 🤣😅👩🏾⚖
Aw....I wanna see it now 😢. Coyote and Roadrunner shorts are my favorite
David Zaslov is really doing his damnedest to drag as many respected movie studios as possible, kicking and screaming, into the hellish pit of awful that he turned TLC into.
David Zaslav has literally no idea what he’s doing. The man doesn’t even know his own properties. The man’s been quoted saying they haven’t made a Harry Potter film since 2009…when in fact there’s been five -.-
Your videos are so good
Isn't there a part in Home Sweet Home Alone where he watches a Roadrunner episode in his car?
People were getting tired of Chris Pratt but holy hell is John Cena in EVERY other animated movie.
100% with you. Wile E. Coyote is my favorite Looney Tune. I didn't even know they were making this until it got canceled... that was a roller coaster minute.
How about changing the tax code so they CAN'T benefit by shelving a movie?
I'm actually very interesting to see this Coyote vs. Acme movie, I hope that movie is coming out. That's why I love Looney Tunes man.
I thought I was the only one who liked Back In Action
Apparently, the Urkel Holiday Special is coming out November 21 this year
Lord, WB is scrapping projects for tax write-offs. That feels that it should be illegal.
Ironically, Today is the 20th anniversary of Looney Tunes Back In Action. As you gave the movie a shout-out in this video. Also, Loved that movie too though.
It makes it everyone confused when you pull stuff for "harming the brand" but release Velma in its entirely.
Thank you for the vid Andre totally agree. Was almost hoping to see the Scooby Doo movie shelved on Disney+
Another thing that got me was seeing someone from Congress post on X/Twitter about wanting to investigate WB. That's bad when Congress is stepping in on this.
Also, we do have another Looney Tunes movie coming I think next year, The Day the Earth Blew Up.
I remember that Calamity Coyote bit! They were spoofing the People's Court, right?
And one day later...Urkle special is revealed.
Hopefully this shows WB that the Looney Tunes fanbase is alive and strong
