What is ASMR?
ASMR, or Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response, refers to the tingling sensations and feelings of relaxation triggered by specific sounds and visuals. Although only a small percentage of people are triggered by these stimuli, many are curious about the ASMR experience.
Do you have certain sounds that help you relax? Perhaps it’s the gentle rustle of white noise, distant conversations, or familiar bedtime stories from your parents that made you feel safe and comfortable. Sounds like drawing, brushing, tapping, crinkling, and even the crunch of dried leaves can evoke such calming sensations.
Visual triggers play a role as well-watching hands in motion, like molding clay or performing repetitive tasks, can be mesmerizing. Some find relaxation in the deep sense of connection fostered through soft-speaking or whispering, as well as sincere attention.
For New ASMR Explorers
If you’re new to ASMR, I encourage you to keep an open mind. Remember, this experience is not universal, and not everyone will feel the same response.

Thank you for tuning in! Relax and enjoy the soothing sounds. ~ Sophie
Why is the sound of a sharpie on paper so incredibly satisfying?!
Because YOU are one of the lucky ones, that's why!!! :-)
I hope you don't mind, I watched your video and after I realized doodling like this really helped with my anxiety, I started drawing these pictures and adding little things of my own. It helps allot with anxiety and depression. I really enjoy your channel :)
haha, this was my first asmr video. i was 11, i remember rewatching the rubbing/tapping part over and over for an hour! it's still such a classic. thank you :)
This one is still my fav too!
So, my most asked question is "Why does She cut up her drawing?" Here is my answer.
You have asked a very good question.
For me, cutting them up is an act of meditation mingled with blissful sounds and visuals. Most of my art is a practice in non-attachment and so cutting them up is actually very liberating and has a deep sense of freedom and peace.
I consider these doodles as a practice of control, coordination, composition and above all, to practice being a "Creative Problem Solver." For people to use art as a safe expression to overcome, figure out new ways to look at problems, they can take this skill and apply it to other areas of their life. This is what I do for myself and if others can learn this from my sharing of these techniques then we are one step closer to being a positive change in our world community.
Where did you get the scissors? I really like the effects.
They are called Shredding scissors. They are sometimes used to cut herbs.
+ASMR Sounds by Sophie / Xcentricity Body Painting It looks like you really get in touch with the materials, your hands are very expressive, the way they look for to feel the texture you create. Art is medidation
+ASMR Sounds by Sophie / Xcentricity Body Painting I absolutley loved it...so fun to watch. I want to color it haha!
I'm working on making a Coloring Pages.
if you are interested, let me know.
I love to draw. I could sit for hours and draw. I love the way it sounds and the way it looks when I'm doing it. It also feels great and fills me with, well...sometimes excitement and sometimes with calmness. Drawing gives me time to think about things. It creates a sacred space where I can be at one with my thought and feelings. I often work out difficulties or solve problems when I'm drawing. Does anyone else feel this way too?
yes it can cause me to go into a trance especially music xxx
x
I'm the same way with drawing and music
I do!!! And also I love how it sounds :D we can create our own world on paper!!
Jess, I agree!!! You just gave me an amazing idea....thanks!
Even though i'd probably never cut up my doodles and such, I do admire why you do it..
Remember, your sight is but one thing, your memory is another (even if you forget).
Think of it like a pine tree, people who remember well usually dont lost much memories!
Normal leafy trees however, do. New memories grow, and the old ones leave.
best part is, i can smell this video.
+Tanja the Talented Omg ikr. It's weird, at class I'm just in the corner sniffing a sharpie with everyone looking at me like I'm a hobo that's getting high off fumes.
+BoopyDooper Sharpie fumes can kill you.
Tsutomete I know, I don't do it so much to kill me >.
BoopyDooper Okay. ^^
crazy
I've always had a thing for the sound of pens knocking against each other in pencil cases. I was really amazed that ASMR was a thing. I really loved the sounds of the pens at the start it really soothed me. I loved how the scissors cut the paper as well it was definitely therapeutic. So thankful I chanced upon your channel, please keep it up!! :-)
I could watch this for hours. It makes me so calm and sleepy!
love it
That's the point of it lol
Excellent doodling! Great for me because I like to listen to ASMR at work...and people talking is a no-no. This is perfect and blissful.
I just recently came across your channel.. And i must say that it's helped me so much. I suffer from insomnia, depression, & anxiety. I haven't been able to sleep for a really long time, & watching your videos help the time pass. Also, the sounds calm me down when i'm having an anxiety attack. I just wanted to thank you so much for creating these videos & sharing such beauty with me. ❤️
karlee mcgrath Thank you for letting me know this. When I first started making these videos, I did it because it made me happy and calmer. I had no idea I would be helping anyone. So, your comments really make my day and in a way I'm so happy to be helping. May I use your post on my website? I can include your name or not, what ever would be fine with you.
She was drawing the picture and I was like "ahhhh.." And then she started cutting the picture and I was like "AAHH NO WTF"
wonderfulfun
ASMR Sounds by Sophie / Xcentricity Body Painting you are truly amazing and what you do i loved this you can tell you are a true artist and i love videos like this and i hope you can continue doing videos like like this P.S I love you
❤❤❤❤
Same 🤣
I love hearing the marker move against the paper. When I close my eyes I can see the movements in my head from the sound . It gives me a state of calmness. You are an introduction to ASMR for me and i realized it's what I have been looking for. The sound helps me when I work. Thank you Sophie.
I was just talking with Susan about cutting up this doodle. She enjoyed it as do some of the others that have watched it. Here is one of my thoughts about why I cut it up. "actually thought it was very liberating to cut it up and the sounds were incredible. Also, when you aren't afraid to transmute your work into something completely different, there is a whole other level of creativity and problem solving that is presented."
What are your thoughts about redefining / transmuting / deconstructing the work that you create?
The scissors are fun to cut with!! They are called shredding scissors. They are sometimes used for cutting herbs and i once saw them with canning supplies. I bought my pair at the TIGER store in London. But I have also found them on Amazon.com if you are looking at buying some.
+ASMR Sounds by Sophie / Xcentricity Body Painting how do you do this art
Hi Cassie, I'm starting Doodle Classes over G+ Hangout. Would you like to join?
I found your ASMR TH-cam channel last year and have listened/watched often. Right now I'm waiting for my second open heart surgery to replace an aortic valve. I can't move around much right now, so TH-cam is very important for me. I find that these sessions are wonderful for me as I was highly sensitive to ASMR right from the first video of yours. I'm really glad I found your channel last year. You are providing an amazing way to meditate, feel, become calm and in touch with my body. Thank you for sharing with us. debra
I can't believe I just watched half an hour of drawing. That was SO PLEASING.
The doodling at the beginning is the most relaxing thing for me. The sound of a fountain pen, metal on paper (like with a fine tip pen), chalk on a chalkboard, or sharpies is like mesmerizing. I just watched a ten minute video watching a man write "flourishing" with a fountain pen.
There are so many beautiful ASMR videos out there to watch!
I started out simply in it for the doodling but I was drawn to the sound of the marker on the paper and then you finished and started cutting and my hand was on the pause button but I never did because this is so AMAZING!!!! I loved the sound of the paper being cut and the scissors are super cool! Thank you!
That's how I was watching my first ASMR video. I was going to turn it off but just couldn't. LOL! I'm glad you enjoyed this one.
Dear ASMR Friends, I just got done reading a post that brought me to tears! It was from a woman who watches my videos and finds great healing in them. I am so honored to be part of this amazing woman's healing process. I make these videos initially because they helped me find my calm space within, a place where I can find calm and peace, release my stress and to function on a higher vibration. And to know that these videos are helping so many others do the same thing, I can hardly find the words to express my unbound gratitude. I so appreciate hearing these messages, they keep me so motivated to keep making these videos and also counter the evil troll messages I get from time to time. In closing, this most extraordinary woman said this, "since I can't leave the house anymore, youtube has saved me many times from just quitting. You have been a part of that. Thank you."
Everyone, Keep heart and know that where we are right now is the NOW Moment, the only time we have. Hold tight to who you are, breath in a higher vibration, breath in the courage to take the next step into the next NOW moment, Breath in love, breath in the knowing that you are making a difference in this world, because you are.
I could cry. I suffer greatly with depression and anxiety and I've been housebound for weeks. I've felt so incredibly low. I'm not entirely sure how I found you, but I'm not going to question it. I'll embrace the calmness and peace within that I feel watching your videos. Thank you so much for all you do. Much love to you, from Laura in England. Xxx
Laura, I'm glad you've found my videos and that they ease your situation. I think that once you find your calm space, you can find your balance and when you find your balance, you can find a new way of perceiving who you are and what thoughts are truly yours. We all have felt and acted on thoughts/beliefs that are in our mind that aren't even our thoughts. They are someone else's thoughts and judgments. And when we believe them and act on them and they fundamentally not in integrity with who we truly are, we can manifest discomforts like anxiety and depression. So, when I"m in a calm space, I start asking myself if the things I"m thinking about are my thoughts. So, what ever pops into my mind, I ask "Is this my thought?" and then I listen to that calm space within myself and hear what I tell myself. If I realize that this thought isn't mine. I ask the Universe/God/Higher Power to release it, to remove and release it and send that thought to a higher place. Then I go on to the next thought that pops in. It's pretty much a never ending, always transforming process. I also start asking myself what are my set of guiding principles. Why I do what I do? What are my values and beliefs? What is my purpose and meaning? What inspires me to be my highest and best me? Then, it is easier to how to distinguish what thoughts are mine and which ones are not mine and what resonates with my integrity.
I used to suffer from depression for years at a time. But now, it rarely happens and when it does, I can see that I going into this dark heaviness but I can also see that there is always a way out and I can see myself getting lighter again. It rarely lasts for more that a day or two. I don't know if what I've done (and still continually do) will help you. But I'm just putting it out there as an option.
With love and thoughtful concern.
Sophie

So sweet
There are many people who come here to see and learn from the art videos and don't expect the ASMR aspects of what I do. So, they think it's weird or feel uncomfortable with it. For some, it's their first experience with ASMR and they love it and want to hear and see more. But for others, they are not sensitive to it or find it irritating or even infuriating. I understand that everyone comes here for their reasons and experience my videos each in their own way. So, I'm not bothered when people dislike my work and I am over joyed by those that do like it and even more thrilled when I receive posts that someone has had a healing experience with my videos.
what is asmr
+Loretta Oduro Autonomous sensory meridian response (ASMR) is a euphoric experience characterized by a static-like or tingling sensation on the skin that typically begins on the scalp and moves down the back of the neck and upper spine, precipitating relaxation.

Thank you for sharing, Sophie. I am a chronic pain patient and I have several, incurable illnesses that have left me bedridden. I've always had the ASMR response but since getting sick, I've found that it helps during times when it seems like my meds aren't working like they should or when I have a lot of breakthrough pain. It also helps when I have other sensory issues. I become over-stimulated very easily and can experience a mix up in my senses. During really bad episodes I'll see sounds or hear lights. I've even gotten odd metallic tastes on my tongue due to light and sound over-stimulation. And I feel just about everything. My skin is hyper sensitive. So I have to be careful which ASMR videos I watch because some of them can be too much for my system. But soft speaking or videos like this do help quite a bit. So thanks again for sharing with us. Have a blessed day. ~cindy
Bless you too Gypsyheart! I'm glad these videos are a source of comfort for you. Wishing you ease and comfort.
It pleases me when the ASMR Community steps up and educates the ignorant who leave mean, rude and awkward messages. Thank you ASMR Community!!!
In New at this, what is ASMR? I think I just found where I belong. I finally found a community.
I'm so jealous of your Sharpie collection, I wish I had that many!
I loved this video from head to tail, the doodling is so relaxing, and very well done too and the scissors made it look even more like a masterpiece and the sound was relaxing as well.
Thank you for your comment and for watching my video. I"m glad you found value in it. :-)
I love everything about this process. It's Zen and performance art all in one! Love the art, love the real time, love the the sound, and love the letting go! Brava!!!

i love your video and drawing!!
Holy moly the crinkling at the end! My tingles had tingles! Thank you! You are very talented. Amazing how quickly the doodles just flow. Thanks for taking the time to share with us.
I love butterflies! Thank you for your wonderful comment. Your "tingles had tingles," I love that. :-)
All the ASMR videos are about creating trigger sounds or visuals that stimulate responses of well being, bliss, relaxation and a host of other joyful expressions. Only a small percentage of people are triggered by these sounds and visuals. Which makes everyone else wonder why on earth we are listening and watching these videos.
Do you ever hear sounds that make you feel relaxed? White noise, people talking in the distance, repetitive sounds? Did your parents ever read books or tell you stories until you fell asleep? Did the sound of their voice make you feel safe and comfortable and it didn't really matter what they were saying...and you gently drifted off to sleep? Other sounds include drawing sounds, brushing, rubbing, tearing, tapping, crinkling, crushing sounds. I really enjoy the relaxing sounds of walking on dried leaves and pebbles as I walk through the park.
Sometimes people are triggered by visual images as well. Like watching someones hands doing something repetitive, like squishing clay or making something. For others the trigger is a deep since of connection with someone, which includes lots of eye contact, soft speaking and/or whispering and being payed attention to in detail. So, many of these videos revolve around role playing such as personal grooming, hair cutting, shampooing hair, applying nail polish, giving a massage or facia or even, doing a personal exam, like an eye or ear exam.
Perhaps, others will add their own opinions to this post.
And again, thank you for asking. So many people just leave a rude comment and not even try to understand. ~Sophie
I am so sorry people are leaving rude comments. I have only just discovered ASMR, and I have no words to describe how amazing it feels. The visuals, the sounds! This video is particular was fantastic. The soothing of the drawing, the sensation of listening to the cut paper! Just too wonderful. Unbelievable.
Dear Sophie: Edwina Baethge here. i drew somewhat like zentangles and connected repetative designs since i was 3. its always soothed my spirit. it is prayer, communication with divine always.
thanks for making these sounds visuals prayers cuts repeats. they are a holy language to me, to many.
❤️💜💙wina bee
I don't think it was ruined at the end.. Made it interesting in my opinion, made it look like some sort of woven fabric. :)
Thank you VERY much for saying so!
This is doodling? I would hand this in as an art project
Carly, Thanks for the compliment and for watching my video.
Again, noise off and relax watching the drawing for me. I appreciate the folding, cutting and gentle scrunching as mellow sculptures evolve and silently (sound off for me, remember) slip back into pattern, the same but different. Thank you.
Kath, thanks for watching my videos! :-)
Wow this really does have a calming, almost hypnotising effect
+Lani Thank you for your kind comment and for watching my video. I invite you to watch more of my videos and please subscribe if you haven't already. I have a ton of new videos coming soon.
I always knew i like the sounds of a pen/pencil/marker scritching on paper. I would watch a lot of real-time calligraphy videos and things of that nature with no or minimal external sounds so i could hear it. I could watch it for a long time. I never knew scissors was one of mine as well. Maybe because when I usually hear that sound it's noisy. 2 kids in the house. And the rustling of the edges.. and the scratching and tapping.. I never knew I had all these, so thank you.
first time listening to this and i just had an eargasm i love this so much! i just found my new lullaby
Lullaby and goodnight....sweet dreams she whispered.
This is amazing!
The doodle is so great, you do it so beautifully and the sounds give me so much peace! When you finished the doodle and started the movements with your hand on the paper, it sounds like the ocean, it's so calming, so peaceful!
Congrats, this is really what art is about!
And thanks, you made my insomnia worth it! (:
Thank you for watching, Vanessa. Hopefully, my videos will calm away any insomnia and transform it into a peaceful night of sweet slumber. (Please subscribe if you haven't already, I have more drawing videos coming soon.)
This is everything I imagined paper porn would be.
+AbsolutePanda
I been searching for these type of videos. The sounds make spine tingle and mellows me out. It's usually all time elapsed videos with music or talking on other channels. Glad I found your channel, definitely subscribing
(ASMR) Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response is a term used to describe a sensory experience characterized by a pleasant tingling sensation in the head and scalp, which can be triggered by sounds like whispering or brushing, and visual stimulus like painting or drawing.
Hmmm.... I get a tingly pounding feeling in my head. It's so pleasurable and unpleasurable at the same time, it's crazy. I love it though. Maybe I'm just ggetting the pounding feeling because it's almost midnight for me on a school night....
It's strange how relaxed I feel watching this!
It's raining in the background, isn't it?
Well at least it sounds like it, that's even more calming.
+RottenButterfly ye its great
I had never heard of ASMR before and happened to have stumbled upon your channel by accident. I am sure glad I did, I LOVE this!! Now I understand why this kind of noise has always been relaxing to me!! Thank you for sharing! I can't wait to see more.
Glad you found the ASMR community. There are many many amazing videos out there. I hope you find all the ones that give you the best tingles.
I crinkled and cut this drawing to create interesting sounds and visuals.
Very interesting, and your techniques are too... now I know I'm a part of these people! Thanks
Hey thanks for the video!
One question: Is it really such a small percentage of people that react on this? I believe it also depends on how you listen to these sounds. For example if you listen to this through the laptop speakers it doesn't work as well as with high quality headphones.
Could it also have something to do with people having tinnitus from time to time?
I know the feeling that silence can be very uncomfortable and just tiny sounds make it better.
ASMR Sounds by Sophie / Xcentricity Body Painting this is a question for you...
Hello Gilmar, Thank you for watching my video. Please tell me what your question is. :-)
ASMR Sounds by Sophie / Xcentricity Body Painting Hello! I didn't mean to question you!! SusiSubjektiv made it replying my comment...
After going through and reading all the comments, I understand why I loved this so much. I was truly mesmerized with the curves and the dots.
thank you for watching this video. I have other drawing videos you might enjoy too. Please subscribe because I have more doodling videos coming out soon and you'll be one of the first to see them.
Really like those patterns. Awesome!
+TcT PikaPika Thank you for your lovely comment. Are you a doodler?
As soon as I saw the thumbnail for this video, I clicked on it hoping to watch someone draw something. I used to love watching people draw or even myself. The drawing could be of anything and I would feel super relaxed. Now I know why I did based on your writing for this video. I feel a beautiful peace watching this! I will definitely be watching more of your videos. Thank you!
peaceluvrespect Thank you for your beautiful message, it's much appreciated.
If you are here for the drawing and doodling, you may want to turn the volume down and turn on some tunes and skip around to the parts you want to watch me draw.
ur really good at drawing I can't even draw like u
what size paper do u use? // by the way I think ur drawings are amazing :). I like the silence of the video, where you could just listen the pen being used and i think you should create more videos like these! :))
Keep watching because I'm posting a new video everyday this month and some of them are drawing only videos! :)
You truly do have a talent. I think that it is really cool how you make all of these doodles! ! And the way you do it seems to be relaxing to me. You are an amazing artist and I love how you can do that.
+angelica sanchez Angelica, Thanks for your kind comment and for watching my video. I invite you to watch more of my videos and please subscribe if you haven't already.
Love this video!
I just checked out your channel and subscribed! Thank you for creating all your beautifully relaxing videos.
the sound of paper cutting really got me all tingly and happy lol
The best of this was being able to hear _everything._ I absolutely loved there being no talking, because i'm not here for monologues, I'm here to watch.
I especially loved, near the end, when you started feeling and scratching the paper, because that's exactly what i have the urge to do.
I really wanted to just.. scratch my nails along the paper because it's just so.. _nice_
And _calming_
I also loved how you cut the paper.
I internally freaked out like "No! Don't cut such beautiful art work!!"
But then I realized- ??? This is just a doodle, plus i loved how you messed around with it again it was cut, I was thinking maybe looking up a tutorial on cutting paper in that way
but being able to do it into something to make it look even more beautiful??
+Lesbo Lizzy Thank you for your beautiful comments! I appreciate it more than you know! I will have many more drawing videos coming along so please subscribe if you haven't already. Thanks!
The last minute when you smoothed it back down, gave me the most tingles :)
Really beautiful art again. I enjoy your art it is really... why did you cut it D:
I doodle as a meditation not to create masterpieces. Or perhaps the masterpiece is only created in that moment. There is a certain freedom with non-attachment that I often apply to my artwork. I also am a body painter and all my art is washed down the drain after it is finished, and those works take from 5-12 hours to create. Then in a moment, they are also gone. For me, it is about being in the now moment of creation. There is no other better feeling than that.
Blooprint What are you doing here
lol bloo didnt think i’d find u here XD
I wondered why I felt hypnotized watching people draw or doing hair! Thank you! I watch these to wind down after a stressful day!
Hi, thanks for watching my videos and for sharing your thought with me. I find it heart warming to know that my video has helped you.
I know this is just for the sound but for the record you're a very talented artist
Thanks!
The sounds that the paper makes, the marker and the scissor cutting is so relaxing!!! X,,,)))
2 words...
SO SATISFYING!!!
beautiful :) it wasnt until i started watching these videos that i realized ive been zentangling for years
I know, Right?! I've been doodling since I could hold a crayon. It wasn't until recently that Zentangle put together a bunch of designs and called it Zentangle. It's brilliant marketing. And now many people are feeling more comfortable drawing and being artistic. Just remember that many of these patterns have been around for centuries and centuries.
I am very thankful for the ASMR Community here on TH-cam. thank you all for supporting this channel and all the ASMR artists.
If you'd like to know more about ASMR, please read in the About section of this video and there is always Google or Wikipedia

+ASMR Sounds by Sophie / Xcentricity Body Painting how can you draw this
Thank you Sophie, this was amazing, watching you do was like sharing a meditative moment with you. It is so encouraging too everybody can do it(of course nowhere near what your hand and imagination can create) without the inhibition that I have no creativity in me.
Anjana Sarkar Thank you for your lovely comments. Just keep practicing and it will become more fluid. You are always welcome to post your doodles on my Facebook page Tingle Treats. The link is in the About section. Please subscribe if you haven't already. Thanks!

this was very pretty and the sound of the marker is very soothing.
desperately trying to find a point where your hands aren't covering any part of the picture so I can take a picture lol it's absolutely beautiful!
+Hannah Sein 27:43 her hands aren't there
I loved the drawing and only decided to watch to see the zentangle. The sounds of the marker running over paper. Even the gliding of your hands was very relaxing. I would watch again and again if it were not for the cutting it was a harsh sound and completely removed me personally from the the "happy place" i was experiencing. Still glad to have seen the beauty of the creation. Thank you for posting!
Candice G Thanks you for watching my video and your your valuable input. I will focus on creating more videos without any cutting.
when you prepare for relaxation until a loud ad pops up in the beginning
THANK YOU Sophie for going ahead with this work, although, as you state, very few of us have the senses tuned in this manner! Finding common ground of affinities makes us feel a rare, but an extremely necessary support! Thank you again!!
Your are very welcome. Thank you for your kind comments!

I find this so calming.
Here is one of my favorite videos. It's a tutorial on how to draw Celtic Knotwork designs. All the drawing sounds and whispering are sure to give you lots of tingles. (or drive you nuts if you don't get into ASMR) But the tutorial part is very well played out and easy to follow. Try it out and let me know if you like it. I've seen many of these ASMR videos and never felt anything until this one, man... the sound of this pen give me some kind of a chill. Not sure if its a good sensation though.
