  • Indigenous ethnobotanist Rose Bear Don’t Walk demonstrates how scientists generate complex webs of higher-level questions. Through her eyes, we learn how basic questions about a wild rose can grow into questions that are more specific, interesting, testable, and novel.
Rose connects how her journey as a scientist is integrally connected to her identity as a member of the Bitterroot Salish and Crow Native American tribes of Montana. She is currently pursuing her PhD at Montana State University, studying the relationship between the Salish people and their food plants through time.
This video supports Lesson 1 of “SciJourneys”-an open-access Galactic Polymath unit that uses narratives from working scientists to break open "the scientific method" and provides scaffolding for students to build resilient mindsets.
