Just to be clear, it's only an "over the bar line" phrase when felt as 16th notes, the way that I taught it. At the end (and the intro) I'm playing it as 32nd notes, so in that case the whole phrase fits into one bar. I hope that clears up any confusion :) - Mike J
I could hang at 120bpm but I shall have to work my way up to 200bpm. Great exercise Mike, and great application as fill as well. I shall work with it, and play with and incorporate it into my playing.
I've been doing that one since forever, it's also a good jazz groove just let it go and feel it out. The ride pattern is already there and built in. If you keep the pattern going for a fill there's almost no chance of getting lost in it ya know what I mean. good to see you back Mike it's been hot second!
I agree with all of that! But, I think you mean it's been a hot second since the algorithm showed you one of my videos. I put one up last week, and the week before :)
@mikeslessons I never have just played it like that at 200 bpm, i did it with you though, it's a burner. Definitely fuuocus on precision at that speed.
The key is low consistent taps. Guys who did drumline at a high level know this, and it’s useful for drumset players just as much. First get the speed at lower heights, then push your heights (dynamics) up before you bump the tempo.
I may be wrong but this at full speed sounds to me like that monster snare drum fill Buddy Rich used to pull out in Love for Sale.... only Mr Rich AFAIK made it ALL singles... go figure

"Fu... oocus on clarity." Nice save :)
Learning Djembe and this is so helpful to play it on Djembe. Good exercise.

Hi Mike, missed your emails, so really happy about this one…working up as from 120. Great that it is more than an exerciser. Take care, Peter (U.K.)

When will that practice pad be available? I’m really dying to get my hands on one. That thing is perfect!
To be honest I'm not entirely sure. I'm not with Aquarian anymore. That being said I really do hope they release it because it's an amazing pad.
Love your videos Mike! I’ve had to have been subscribed a decade by now lol
Mike você usa a mesma baqueta pra tocar e fazer rudimentos?
Funny - been playing this for a while - but thanks anyway :D

and drop in a 9 stroke roll at the end :)) RnMT
what is the name of this metronome app? is it for iPad?

I just started it today, i can barely do it on 120bpm... Nah, working my double stroke speed up, I'm bad at it. ❤
I switched to a 5a stick, cause it's heavier, and it's harder, so I'll be better with the smaller sticks
play to the theme from Hawaii 5-O :) RnMT
Middle finger fulcrum? Finger control? How?
