I just finished my 9 years journey on 2014 Kia Rondo 2.0 l with 233000 km without any major problems except rear shocks (factory recall) and 2 times brake work. And because of my experience I got 2015 EX again with 78000km in great condition. Looking forward to serve me the same way the previous one did.

Not for "people who've given up on life", more like for people who have so much more going on in life. They would rather go on holiday with their family and take bikes etc., than appreciate the way a Porsche squats down on acceleration. I used to have Porsches, convertible audis, BMW coupes , even an S2000. Now I would much rather pack my estate with all the camping /mountaineering /mountain biking gear etc. I could do the default thing of buying an SUV, but I'm not an idiot. Nor do I care what people who are not important to me think. I'd rather enjoy life to its full.

I agree. I would just rather do all of the things you mentioned in a 530d estate over a Citroen Grand Picasso. It's only my opinion.

I was never a big fan of the KIA but I bought a 2014 Sportage 1.7 CDXI 4 with all the toys (heated steering wheel Ahhh heaven) I bought it to use for a few months while I was getting over some horrendous back problems & that was 3 years ago, it is so comfortable (for me anyway) that I am still driving the same car today. As you might recall I was ready to buy an XF 3 ltr Portfolio but after trying a couple out I have discovered that low slung saloons are no longer for me my old back just couldn't handle getting in & out of the car although I must say that they are a dream to drive, now I realise that the two are like comparing apples to potatoes as they are two very different cars developed for two very different types of driver with two very different sets of requirements. I am now looking to buy the newer model with the same spec as it is so reliable. So if you can keep up the reviews of all the nice wafting saloons I will get my luxury fix that way. Have a good holiday.

Hi matt, i love the videos you make, but I'd like to say that I had a volkswagen sharan 2006 at the age of 19, it is an 7 seater MPV. And still i personally think its the best car for me at least, cheap, reliable, economical and a lot of space for passengers and moving stuff in it. Great fun driving it too

The 2nd gen is good if you avoid the diesel manual that has a dual mass flywheel which quickly wears out, and the 2.0cvvt petrol manual has a rattly gearbox which makes a vibrate noise at certain revs. The foot operated hand brake is also a pig to use on hill starts and panic stalls, often becomes weak cos people forget its on and garages are often too lazy to tighten it again and it simply makes no sense in the manuals. Clearly was designed as an auto first and foremost.
However the independent suspension all round, discs all round of the MK2 mean it handles and rides very well indeed. I seriously haven't been in a car that takes speed humps better. And the 2.0 142bhp cvvt timing chain Theta 1 engine is reliable, not too thirsty and quite quick.
Nice modern shape and interior too. People moan about MPV's (unless they have a German badge), but they actually are the most sensible type of car and in some cases drive better than the hatchback, saloon, estate, crossover, 4x4 that people buy instead. Screw what people think of you.

Driving a 7-seater does not necessarily say you've given up on yourself - just that you sometimes have to ferry around up to 6 other people. I think until very recently, the people giving up on themselves we're those buying Mondeos - which is probably one of the reasons why Ford is sneaking out of that segment.

Last year traded my dreadful, unreliable, incredibly expensive to maintain, cheap plastic interiored 2012 VW Touran 1.6 SE DSG for one of these, after the boss of the local Auto Gearbox Centre told me he'd never had to fix a Kia or a Suzuki in years but was wall to wall in German autos. It was probably to best car decision I've ever made. The Kia drives better and is made of better stuff. My only quibble is it does 10 miles less to the gallon, but when you don't have to worry about yet another sodding amber light coming on in the dash (followed by another big repair bill), it doesn't matter a damn. I'm never buying another German car. It's Kia all the way for me now.

Thanks for this review. This helped in my decision when toying with getting a Kia after having VAG cars for most of my life. My beloved 2006 Touran 1.6 FSI gave up the ghost and I needed something more modern, younger and at a reasonable price. It was either a Kia Carens or a Zafira Tourer as VW are now too expensive. I took the gamble on the Carens as there aren't so many of them about. Now I own a 2017 Kia Carens 4 1.7 CRDI. Lots of mod cons and is very quick on the motorway. I love it! Apart from the steering wheel settings you mentioned (you should read the manual about the options the Korean translation is funny to read), I find the suspension isn't as firm as the VAG cars. But I can fit all the family in and is definitely a better upgrade to the previous VW Touran. To me it feels like a beefed up hot hatch and looks a lot more appealing than the Zafira. Plus mine came with a set of roof bars. What more can a Dad ask for lol. Thanks again

Good analysis. Spanish drivers usually have big problems with roundabouts, think that modern way to get driving license is something recently, 40 years ago getting a driver's license was almost a joke. Enjoy Andalucía, is a great place with an enormous culture and best gastronomy.
I've a Carens Emotion, and as family car, it is "the option", I also prefer diesel engine for this car, I think it is more comfortable than GDi motor (in case of Spain we only could get the 1.6 GDi).

I've got a 2017 Carens DCT Auto. It had a judder. Then I moaned and Kia fitted a 'modified lay shaft'. I have no idea what that is, but the judder has gone and the gear change is smooth as silk. I think the reason Kia have no recalls is that they quietly fix stuff they got wrong in the first place under warranty. Customer service from Gravells Kia, by the way, is superb.

I disagree with the MPV statement. I wouldn´t mind say a Ford S-Max, I like the looks of it and from what I´ve heard they drive great. I´ve driven both a 2016 focus estate and 2014 mondeo, both diesels, and they feel planted on the road and the steerings realy precise and nice as was the gearbox, so with that in mind, wouldn´t mind owning a S-Max.
Plus these cars a very practical and when the seats are folded, make a nice little camper :) It´s nice to have space when taking friends and or family on roadtrips too.
Owned a Skoda Superb hatchback which was nice in its own right, but Fords steering was better, imho.
The automakers seem to have catch up with MPVs. Chryslers Pacifica isn´t to shabby either.
    As always, nice review!

Alexander Esqueda I’ve got a 2 series active tourer (220D M sport Xdrive) - despite the usual car journalists poor reviews, I found it to be a brilliant car, 190BHP, 0-60 in 7 seconds, 140mph top speed but good on fuel when driven normally, averaged 55mpg on a trip to France last year in it and plenty of room to get comfortable as a driver, looks are subjective and it’s not an M3, but it’s better than the 3 series E46 I used to own and the Ford Kuga which was my last car. Not sure how long I will keep it though as I’m debating getting a Range Rover Discovery Sport

    Hi there,
I'm looking for a MPV and was thinking about the Carens.
I'm having 2 small kids and found a deal with 160000km for a Carens from 2013 or 175000km from 2018.
Obviously the recent one has all options but the older one less km and a bit cheaper.
Can anyone confirm that model with this 1.6 engine is reliable? If I go with the one from 2018, how many extra km I can expect before having troubles or main repairs?
Both cars seems to be in good shape with full service/history book and the car would be for 4, 5 years max.
    Thank you! 🙏

I´m one of those parents like you who´s "forced" to buy one of these cars and yes i agree with you, t´s the first MPV that actually doesn´t look like one at all! It´s really nice car blend of mpv/crossover which are quite trendy nowadays.
Would you reccomend one? Comparing to the touran, that everyone says it´s much better value car, but it´s taxi people carrier looks really pu me away....

These were available in the United States with a V6...
Averaged around 18 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway.
They were still one of the slowest cars on the road and the 4 cylinder was even worse.
Didn't sell partially well either as for a few more dollars you could get a Dodge Caravan.

I have a feeling that if you press the brat mirror again when open it folds into a glasses holder, but could be wrong. The “meh” fuel economy will be due to the relatively old fashioned 6 speed slush box. I’m running around in a brand new Kia Rio courtesy car with that gearbox atm. It’s ok. But it’s not great.

    • @HighPeakAutos
      @HighPeakAutos  5 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @keithmatthews1673

I've been trying to find out about Kia auto boxes. As you say the new Rio from 2018 has a (stated to be brand new) torque converter box but some other Kias particularly the Carens and Sportage switched from this to a Double Clutch box for their EU6 diesel in 2016 so may get better mpg. Probably a big mistake though now that DCTs are about as popular as call girl in a gay bar.

    • @TregTube
      @TregTube 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Keith Matthews Apparently there has been lots of issues with KIA’s DCT. I think the DCT will definitely be more efficient though. I think my criticisms of their slush box are probably more related to my usage - I live in the Isle of Man and climb a 1400ft mountain on the way to work every day without national limits. Its not your average commute. It’s probably fine for your average suburb dweller and motorway user in the UK.
